5.0 out of 5 stars Quality product, the flavors are make or break
UPDATE 2: The garlic flavor was decent. Sweeter than I expected.UPDATE: The sweet chili flavor 100% redeems the awful Rosé flavor. Sweet yet savory, just a hint of heat on the back end *channels Food Network* highly recommend. Realizing this is a flavor review. But product-wise? They're satisfyingly squishy when cooked, easy to prepare.I anticipated the Rose to be at least a little spicy, but it was mostly just grossly sweet. I have not tried the other flavors, and I'm pretty sad this is the one I opened first, I couldn't stomach more than a couple bites, it even smells too sweet.. The instructions were simple, so I don't think I did anything wrong. I hope the rest are at least a little better. Hopefully I'll be able to update the review.
5.0 out of 5 stars Tasty 🤤
The flavor is great but a tad sweet. I like to add more soy sauce, green onions, and garlic. The tteokbokki is a bit small in size but definitely filling for one serving if you add a couple eggs.
4.0 out of 5 stars not bad
Not bad, a little sweeter than I'd like, has some heat but not as much heat as the frozen kind from trader joe's, which is what I would prefer but this is a cheaper option that isn't bad at all. Haven't looked at the use by date but if it lasts long its a better option than the frozen kind if you live in a place where the power goes out a lot like I do. The sauce isn't bad but its not the best, it looks like condensed tomato soup and like I said is a bit sweeter than I'd like, would be more aesthetically pleasing if they had put at least pepper flakes or seeds in it like the frozen kinds but thats ok I guess.
3.0 out of 5 stars Fun! Directions are a tad misleading
I’ve been holding these in “safe for later” for some time! Now that we are eating Gluten Free, decided to try out 4 of the flavors! They are close to the authentic Korean “street food. They are also typically spicy and loaded w/seafood. The original rice cakes can be found frozen at most Asian grocery storesSince these are a bit dehydrated, the directions say add sauce and simmer. I found adding a little water to steam first before adding sauce was VERY helpful! Took me 10 min instead of 3 to get the correct consistency and softness. If cooking by directions only they would have burned and not fully softened. I’m glad I tried this version, although I’ll stick to the frozen disks in the future! The spicy meter on these I give: 4 out of 10 That being said, black pepper can be too spicy for my mid-western palette!Good luck! BBQ flavor does have gluten if anyone is checking labels or has an allergy
5.0 out of 5 stars We love tteokbokki!
Fun story - I'd found a single package of Rose Tteokbokki at my local Ross store, thought it would be fun to try, and we fell in love with it! Thank goodness for Bolo! I didn't have to go searching for a random overstock of these at local stores! We get to try all the flavors and fall in love all over again. So tasty and so easy to make at home!
5.0 out of 5 stars Good and easy
Good flavor
5.0 out of 5 stars Rose- gentle heat, stronger sweet. Nice flavor. Great chewy texture.
I love tteokbokki (steamed rice cakes). Folks new to this should know that it is all about the glorious chewy texture, as the cakes themselves have no flavor. What you do once they are steamed though is up to you. Generally it is in a base of sweet and heat. Usually initial sweet taste with powerful punch of heat. Some varieties such as this Rose will be less hot. With any tteokbokki, it can be eaten as is, or can be topped with veg and/or proteins. I usually buy plain rice cakes and use a premade powder or sauce, and just eat it plain. I really eat this stuff when I want that special chewy texture. More of a craving thing than something I make when I am hungry. Other times, I will "doctor" it up with other flavorings) drops of soy, some garlic, mushroom powder, etc) and add-ins (cheese or egg, sometimes pork or chicken, occasional vegetable or a little broth). But ultimately it is the chewy texture I am going for.I generally prefer it prepared with less heat, but there are ways to make it less fiery. I love the heat and sweet. The Rose is more sweet than heat for sure, which I rather like. I can add heat back in. I like the different options for tteokbokki dishes. I love the texture and the versatility of the dish. I like this brand.
4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised
I have always wanted to try tteokbokki. My daughter and I keep seeing and hearing about it on tiktok. I love how quickly you can make a pack. It was spicier than we expected, but we both loved the chewy texture. I added in an egg and some vegan cheese and it was different, yet pretty tasty in my opinion. I only wish it had bigger portions and was a bit cheaper so that I could purchase more often.
