5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and thoughtful build quality.
I have purchased 3 of the NAB/NPB series MinisForum PCs and they have been great so far. If you’re looking for a mini PC that has a great amount of performance for the price and size, look no further. I already have, and these were some of the best. Let’s face it, most of the issues with these off-brand mini PCs is that they have poor thermal control, either by poor cooler or software design, and cheap peripherals/memory/storage. Some manufacturers think low fan noise is the most important design factor. Compared to reliability, I disagree. For these, thermals are well within what I’d expect from a laptop with similar specs. They idle around 40C and 15w. Peak CPU power is 90w, but thermal throttle to ~45w and stay a little under 80C under full load. This is impressive performance that many other mini PCs don’t accomplish. The CPU cooler design and installation is very thoughtful. For example, there are two sets of radiators (cooling fins) fed by significant copper heat pipes. Between the bottom cover and the cooler unit, there is some foam weatherstripping. At first I thought this was just to cover the interface between the fan and radiators to prevent air leakage and reduce vibration potential, but then realized it was largely segmenting the lower case cavity between intake and exhaust air so that hot air would be less likely to re-uptake into the fan. Very smart… Then there’s the fan itself. I noticed the blade design looked familiar. It looks very similar to the one that ASUS designed for their ROG gaming laptops that has a low turbulence coefficient and is supposed to accumulate less dust. My guess is the design was likely…appropriated somehow. But it’s a plus for this unit regardless. I have had no issues with connectivity of the ports or WiFi. I have not tried bluetooth connectivity, for lack of need. You have to keep in mind that there is limited power available for each USB port and if you intend to connect a bunch of external devices you’ll probably need a powered hub. The nice thing about these units in particular, is the number and type of ports available. One thing I wouldn’t expect to get out of these is any gaming beyond casual. With no discrete graphics adapter, it’s just not going to happen. The graphics performance you will get, is sufficient for photo and video editing with one or more UHD display, and as I suggest, casual gaming. Overall, a great buy. I think one thing hampering the rating of these models, are the other models attached to this listing. One of the models seems to have thermal problems — the UM773 Lite. I can personally vouch for the two series I listed.
5.0 out of 5 stars Can be used as a small Linux server, or pfSense/OPNsense router
This review is for a MINISFORUM NPB6 Mini PC 32GB DDR5 1TB SSD, with Intel Core i7-13620H. This review will be a little unusual as I ordered this unit for a somewhat unusual purpose:Because this unit has two NICs, I wanted to use this system as a somewhat over-powered network router and as a high-uptime container software (like Docker, or Podman) server, hosting software that didn't require much storage and didn't require major redundancy. To do this, I wanted to install both OPNsense and Red Hat Enterprise Linux:• Installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4• Installed OPNsense as a VM running on top of RHEL 9.4• Configured the first NIC as a pass-through PCI express device to the OPNsense VM• Configured the other NIC as a network bridge in RHEL• Enabled "hairpin mode" for the bridge NIC in RHEL• Assigned a virtual NIC for OPNsense to the RHEL bridgeEven though this setup sounds silly, it's been extremely successful and this little unit is able to both run as a low-latency, high-quality OPNsense router, while also serving containers from Red Hat Linux.Comments on the hardware:• All hardware in the unit worked with RHEL without any special work required• The unit has a good cooling setup, including even an SSD heatsink to keep the SSD in good temperature ranges• The unit is quiet• The internal layout is better than I was expecting; whoever designed this came up with a good layout• The unit has a little push-pop door on the top to get at the internal components you can upgrade or change out, and it's very easy to work on• The SSD included was a Kingston OM8PGP41024Q (a known brand)• The memory was Crucial CT16G48C40S5 (also a known brand)• For my purpose, the wireless hasn't been used so I cannot comment on that; wireless for my network is handled by mesh units in a bridge configuration.• Performance as a router is outstanding since it's so overpowered - this has been providing lower latency than a purpose-made consumer router with an ARM CPU that ironically cost approximately as much.I was impressed with the unit, and think it makes a great compact Linux home-server device for small tasks that don't require lots of storage.
1.0 out of 5 stars I was pleasantly surprised: An update
This was my earlier review:This little PC the size of a computer speaker is very light, powerful, and very quiet. The setup was pretty simple, and its operations, so far have been impressive to say the least. I deliberately left it on for several hours to see how it would function. It did extremely well. It felt slightly warm, but much less warm than a laptop that's been switched on for several hours. It responded well to mouse moves; and ran all the apps I needed well.I wish I bought this type of PC in the past, because it is just as powerful as a full desktop, but occupies a fraction of the space and weighs a fraction of the weight. This is my current review:This PC simply DIED. I mean, dead, with no warnings whatsoever. I could not turn it on. It went totally dead. I had a project to do and I was counting on the pc, since I was away on a trip. I ended up using my laptop, but it was not as comfortable to use. This PC is a HUGE disappointment. Going forward, I will avoid these little known companies. Well-made computer systems DO NOT die this way.DO NOT BUY. Look for systems from reputable companies instead.
It did not especify the type of OS
Good product. But I was disappointed that it came with Windows home rather than Windows Pro.It only said coming with an OS but did not described the type of OS
Funciona muy bien.
Todo conforme a lo anunciado. Se ve de buena calidad
Powerful PC for everyday use
After a few days thinking about this little PC, I decided to take a chance on it (NAB5). To my surprise, the RAM in the PC I received is Crucial RAM and the SSD is a Kingston SSD. No need to tell you that the performance is on point. Fans are very quiet. There are 2 separate fans, an SSD fan and the main unit fan. No bloatware in the install (Win 11 Pro). Very good price for what you get.
Ya no prende mi computadora
Me urge contactar al vendedor porque necesito la garantía de mi computadora
Wrong description, Bad quality, loose parts and bad customer service
The description of the item was wrong and was advertising a better CPU. It since was correctedI also received a unit with a loose drive inside. The drive banged on the motherboard and damaged it. The seller tried to make me pay to ship it back for a replacement. I'll return it and buy from a trustable company
