5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful flavor and value
This stuff is the good stuff. I wasn't actually expecting to get three bottles of the peppercorns, but this should keep me going for a while. These are freshly dried, not old, so the flavor is on point and gives that nice numbing sensation just like it should!
5.0 out of 5 stars The real thing
I spent 3 weeks in Sichuan Province, China, in 2019. The food was beyond amazing! On my return, I was looking for Sichuan Peppercorns. We have a local small Asian grocery, and I got a bag of them from there. They were disappointing – no buzz, and hard seeds in the shells. Recently, after hearing a story on BBC about Sichuan cuisine, I decided to try again. I looked through a lot of options on Bolo and chose these. I confess that I was influenced by the Panda on the labels as well as the reviews. I've used them a couple of times now. I need to work on my cooking skills with them, but they definitely have the flavor and the buzz, and no hard seeds, just the shells, as they should. Since the package had three largish spice bottles, I put two in the freezer and one in my spice cabinet.
5.0 out of 5 stars Full cracked kernels
Great product. Packed full to minimize breakage and dusting.
4.0 out of 5 stars Tastes great
Tastes great, fresh
5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality, Unexpectedly Sharp
Much better quality than it appears. The corns are cracked in half, which tends to hasten their loss of taste. That said, they can be used right away without cracking. They also retain a very sharp Szechuan flavor. Would definitely order again.
5.0 out of 5 stars BEST YOU WILL FIND!
WOW! BANG! ZOOM!These are the best I have found in the USA and comparable to the best I ever found when I lived in Chengdu China, the capital of the sichuan province for 3 years! I've been cooking Sichuan cuisine for 10 years now and these are the BOMB!Everything you want in Sichuan Numb pepper! Super fragrant, fresh, great color, and most of all...BAM!...These Immediately hit the pallet and start the numb and tingling you are looking for the moment they hit your mouth! No need to even chew! They are pricy, but numb pepper typically is here in the USA, and you definitely know where that money went when you buy these. All well opened pods with Very few to No Seeds. After buying a different one on Bolo that must be the worse I have ever had and writing a scathing review on them and getting Bolo to reimburse me for them, I bought these!I've been buying Bolo for years and have only written a handful of reviews but had to protect people from that terrible product! And now giving equal time to this incredible product! The other was one of the least expensive and has huge volume of sales and ironically Lots of good reviews. I can only assume those are from folks buying numb pepper for the first time who are impressed with the numb and tingling but have no idea what they are really missing out on.
1.0 out of 5 stars These taste weird and the pepper oil numbs tongue
They look like crushed peppers in the container, but when added to liquid, they somehow rehydrate and fill and become full peppercorn berries-- and usually clustered.Taking a bite of these is weird at best. It's like eating lemon flavored novacaine. They have a weird lemonish aftertaste and the oil in these type of peppers numbs your tongue.Be Prepared for this!Neither me or anyone who tried them like the taste or the numbing sensation. These are not spicy like I wanted and assumed, so if that's what you are wanting, I would avoid.
5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!
Packed with flavor! Fresh smell and has a nice spicy lemony zing.
Tasty, good value and long dates!
Unlike some of the other supposed Szechuan peppercorns on Bolo these are really good quality- highly aromatic and superbly tasty! They’re a bargain at their regular price but I actually got them on a special deal for £7.99.The packaging is great too, sturdy and perfect to store them in and keep them fresh. Also looks good! They had good dates on them of sometime in 2026 (even though things like this don’t really spoil for quite some time after those dates anyway, they can just lose a bit of their kick if left too long). These are so flavourful that you can even just grind them up and mix with cornflour and chilli flakes to make a great coating for tofu etc. We do this then make a simple stir fry with the fried seasoned tofu, udon noodles, spring onions, green beans, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, sesame seeds and coriander. They can be used for plenty of dishes but that one is quick, tasty and cheap!
Great value
They have a great spicy kick
