The way to check the tightness is to use a needle with thread going through the fabric surface. It is workable if there is a loud sound when pulling the thread.

The bamboo is a little rough, and the screw fasteners are low quality, but they all work as they should, and for the price it's a great deal. I only wanted the smallest hoop--I thought--but I ended up needing and using all three pairs (mending a huge lace veil) and was so glad to have them. Recommend!

The quality of the rings is good and it is going to be easy to do some pieces on clothing. The rings are easy to hold and manage. They are big enough for detailed, smaller work. I would recommend a bigger one for pieces larger than six inches in diameter.

That being said, I have to say I'm less than impressed with the finish of the hoops. There are fair sized pieces sticking out , one hoop looks like there was a splinter sticking out and they just glued or epoxyed it together. I would not purchase these again.
