5.0 out of 5 stars The price for quality.
I work from home, and to make my office 'feel' differently when I am there working or in my free time, I decided to play around with color-changing bulbs a few years ago. Depending on why I was there, they seemed to give my office the ambiance I was looking for. Sadly, the bulbs that I used before relied on an internet connection to work, and too many times, behaved not as expected. So, when I moved the office to another room in the house, I decided to go all in and find a set of (6) ceiling lights. There are definitely other options available that are much cheaper than the Philips Hue lights. Some of them are not at all bad and may be a better choice for a lot of people.I ended up paying an arm and a leg compared to others for the Hue system because of the reliability of Wi-Fi in our area. I had experienced one too many times that my previous set of lower-end bulbs simply could not connect, or I had to re-add them to my setup again. When combined with the hub, these lights allow me to set them up once and no longer depend on my internet connection. I can also turn all the lights on and off or cycle through mood settings by using the smart switch/remote (hub and switch sold separately). So, now they work as a standard set of lights without having to get my phone out every time. The quality of the lights, both the light itself and the build quality, is fantastic. To be fair, it should be for the price you pay. The app is, I think, one of the most user-friendly apps in this space. It still can be complex for some, but it will be much easier than most other apps.As others have mentioned, the Hue lights, together with the hub and the light switch, are very dependable and work nicely. Like many other things, if you are looking for lights that you will enjoy for many, many years and want them to work flawlessly and without any fuss once they are set up, it might be worth considering these.Yes, they are expensive, but ask yourself if it is worth the extra money to turn your room into something extraordinary.
5.0 out of 5 stars Brightened and Modernized the Basement
I replaced three of the boob lights in our basement to get it out of the 90s. They had small junction box fixtures so 90% of the effort in installing these were from that. If you are installing in a new location without an existing hole, install is an absolute breeze. The Good:--Rock solid Hue connectivity and quality.--These things will fit almost anywhere.--The appearance is quite nice and the diffuser is excellent! It looks and feels like a Kindle surface. The light quality is tremendous. The Cromulent:--I really don't like that these came with permanent splices. I know, "Why would you ever need to move them??" Well, given the cost and ease of install, I plan to take all of the smart home stuff if we ever move. There are several code-approved ways to connect wires. This is the worst. That's a personal preference, so I'm not going to take any stars off.--The actual issue with the splices were the fact that they weren't super easy to work with due to the uh... creative wiring choices the previous owner and/or builder made with wiring the basement. The wires were significantly larger than even 12-gauge wiring. Had to buy a separate junction box to make the splices to the large-gauge wire. If you have normal light circuit wiring, no problem. The Bad:--The lip on the light is extremely narrow. Really bad design. You have to get the hole cut within like a quarter inch. Easy with a hole saw, but not so much if you have an existing hole preventing you from using a hole saw. --The other issue that I think actually was enough to knock off a star was the included junction box. The door on it would NOT stay closed. Disappointed given the cost.Edit: I noticed some reviews mentioned connectivity being an issue, especially without the bridge. I went back and looked and I haven't lost connectivity with the bridge once with these lights since installing 3 or 4 months ago. I think having the bridge is a worthwhile cost if you have more than a couple lights. The benefits are immense. You can also look at connecting the bulbs directly to a zigbee hub like Home Assistant with a zigbee dongle. These are among the most reliable devices in my house in terms of connectivity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy To Install and Works Great
We love the Philips Hue lights and needed a fix with a basement light. This was easy to install and the thin aspect was a perfect fit.
5.0 out of 5 stars This color wafer downlight is a GREAT addition to the Philips Hue family!
I wish this wafer was available a year ago when we redid the lighting in the living room. There was no room to add traditional can lights, only wafers would fit. I had to go with some generic wafer lights with no color control. But this? This is awesome and just in time for the bathroom remodel to put over the whirlpool. The Philips Hue Hub recognized it no problem, the multi-touch remote buttons let me change color settings easily, and of course, I can connect it to Alexa to say "set whirlpool tub to lavender"I know there are WiFi equivalents, but I like that this is zigbee and stays off the regular network, and I can control it with the multi-function Hue and Friends of Hue wireless button sets.
