Extremely easy to turn on and off, 2 LED lights indicate it’s working, Green always on when not detecting power, and turns Red when it does. Then device also makes a sound when detecting, however easy to silent this feature. Flash light can be turned on when the unit is off or on. Please note, although some people say it can be used on 12v car batteries, this is not true. This will only detect 12v AC, not 12v DC. I bought this to replace two older units, as these did not indicate if on, or more importantly when their batteries were flat. Lucky to be alive to review this fantastic SAFE tester. Also bought a case to keep it in.

Great voltage tester with a nice little flashlight. Just bright enough to see your work without being too bright to reflect and glare back on you while working. Detects 120v AC live plugs and switches along with 12v and lower items like charging pads and USB cables plugged into power source. I use these Klein tester regularly and they are a great way to quickly test to see if something is live without dragging out volt meter.

I’m an electrician. that uses this a lot. It’s a great tool that gets the job done. And my critique on it is nitpicking. I dislike the fact that I have to sit there and hold the power on button for for five seconds… Which when you’re working on a ladder is aggravating. As I said, nitpicking! But this device uses up batteries quickly. And if you’re turning this thing on 5 to 6 times a day five days a week and allowing it to auto shut off the amount of batteries you use in a month goes up dramatically. Other than that, it is a much better vault tester than the old style that I started working with 20 years ago.

I use a lot of these types of indicators and this Klein NCV has the same issue that all of the others have... the probe end is too short. These are used a lot by the inspection business and they are invaluable. The downfall is that the probe end being too short, it is not always usable for 250V plugs like for Dryers or Ovens. I have had to result to using a dummy plug to put into the receptacle and then use this NCV to check each hot leg of the dummy plug cord to look for voltage. IF the end were longer, it would go deep enough into the receptacle to be able to pick up indication that the receptacle is hot.That being said, the tester does exactly what it says it can and it is lightweight for sure. I just think that the average pirce of about 20 dollars US is a bit high for what is provided. The flashlight is minimal for sure but may help in a pinch to not require a flashlight in the other hand too.

Super useful, quick and simple. Great for quickly checking if a wire is hot. Built-in flashlight is great. Compact size, well worth the price, don't buy a cheap off brand alternative.

Safety first when DIY or on the job
This is a great tool. the lights are extremely bright and the sound id loud too but you can turn off the volume. Only question I have is "why is there 2 different voltage settings. Both seem to do exactly the same thing?"Would I recommend this voltage indicator? YESIs it a quality item? YESIs it visible to the eye when working and after putting it down? YESIs it value for money? YESDoes it come with working batteries? YESAll up 10/10.
