I have been recovering from plantar fasciitis and needed a shoe that was neutral, stable, zero drop, and cushioned. After reading lots of reviews and based upon my own experience with Altra shoes, I chose this Via Olympus for a great price on Bolo. I read lots of reviews claiming the shoe ran small, ran narrow or had a big arch support, and yet I still ordered my usual size 9 Medium width. I can attest that the shoe fits perfectly with thin or lightly cushioned socks. It's no more or less narrow than the several other pairs of Altra shoes I've had over the years. In fact, it might be a tad roomier. I can't understand the arch support claim, as there is actually very little arch support in these shoes or the inserts that come with them (I use a PowerStep orthotic in mine new Altra shoes, which provides me with just the right support for helping with the plantar fasciitis problem). These shoes have lots of stack height, yet the cushioning is firm while still being comfortable, and the shoe is stable. It claims to have a "rocker" design, encouraging good toe-off, and it does that, too, although it's not terribly noticeable. The shoes fit very comfortably for all-day wear. I loosen up the laces near the bottom a lot, then tie a half not around the tongue loop that the laces pass through. This isolates the forefoot of the shoe from getting tighter, so I can tighten the top of the shoe snugly (see attached photo). Lacing the shoe this way allows for free toe movement, while retaining overall stability. Great shoe!

I love this brand because of the stability it offers to my feet. I have plantar fasciitis and need good support for my feet. I love the wide toe box and the versatility of the black color. The value of this shoe is worth the money.

Can’t beat Altras! They fit my foot better than any other brand. I need a wider toe box than other name brand shoes provide. Very comfy as well. Didn’t need any break in time and have held shape! Love the color!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nowhere As Comfortable As Expected
These are my 3rd pair of Altra's. The first 2 were quite comfortable, but after recently buying a pair of New Balance and Brooks shoes with fairly thick soles that provide an amazing cushion experience while walking/running I assumed these would be somewhere close to that when you see how thick the soles are on these.Unfortunately, the sole may be thick, but it is almost too rigid and solid. It provides very little to no cushioning while walking, especially compared to the 2 other shoes I mentioned. Overall the shoes "look" really nice. I almost bought a pair at a local store that sells a decent selection of Altra shoes, and these looked almost exactly the same...giving me the impression the cushioning would be just as soft as the pair I almost bought. These were on sale here at Bolo which is why I went this route. Had I known how stiff they would feel, I seriously wouldn't have bought them. For me, comfort is king and if you can make my walking around a good experience, I'm likely to wear them a lot and maybe even buy another pair. Unfortunately, I will not be buying another pair of Altra's without trying them on FIRST. These weren't too expensive (as far as what I tend to buy on average) but still, I expected more comfort. They are remarkably far too rigid for my taste.I am terribly disappointed...and considering how uncomfortable they are, I won't be wearing very often.
5.0 out of 5 stars Impressed! ... and even Off Road
Here is a picture of my 1st pair with hundred's of miles on them (on and off road) and the new ones I just purchased. I read the reviews and nearly did not buy these because of the reviews,... but I tried them out (because of Bolo's Prime, ... easy return policy) and love them. I'm impressed. I had been running in Altra Escalantes and love them but my 61 year old body needed a bit more cushion on the road for 80 miles a month. I've tried higher cushion shoes before and felt they lacked stability going often off road. I did not want Hoka's any more,... I am always choosing now a wider toe box for better foot health. Once you wear Altra's you won't go back to Hoka's... for that reason. I just bought my wife a pair and she got rid of her Hoka Clifton's because she now felt they cramped her toes.These are a stable platform for a neutral foot shoe,... they have a rocker built in this model which I love for running,... and one amazing thing is these are fantastic for the on road runner who finds every off road trail and takes it. Although, I don't know about really sloppy conditions off road. If you are looking for high and spongy,... these are not your running shoe. What for what I was looking for in a wider toe box,... without a wider width shoe,... and a bit more cushion and rocker on road these are fantastic.
5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, I didn't know comfortable shoes until I put these on.
All I can say is Wow! I've had sesamoid bone removed from my left foot and am usually in pain when I run so I wear running shoes with really cushy soles and put in inserts as well. After seeing a podcast on these I thought I would give them a try. Wow, felt a little odd at first and took some getting used to for a few days, but then I was running better than I ever have with no pain and no inserts! Also my shins no longer hurt after a long run. This is now the only running shoe I will wear.

Comfort and value for money
A comfortable shoe with a wide toe box. First run I had a tight achilles there after all good and the shoe performed well.Time will tell if I do the mileage I would expect from this shoe.
