5.0 out of 5 stars What I needed for an older car
My car's double din is smaller than the trim around the head unit, so I had to order an universal double din dash kit to replace the preinstalled one.The screen responsiveness is quite good and wireless carplay works well thus far. I haven't used the GPS antenna yet since I'm waiting to install the camera and the dash kit to get here. One thing to add, I wish they had some sort of wireless screen mirror, so I can watch Youtube on the head unit instead on my phone.Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase.
2.0 out of 5 stars Its Just OK
Bought one of these for my older car just to upgrade since my display had gone out. Tuner (Radio) on this unit is terrible. Will only pick up about half of the stations that my tired and worn out factory unit would. Volume controls are tiny little buttons (+ and -) that you have to hit to change volume. Unit has to re-load its settings every time you shut the car off (MIGHT be different if you hooked it up to a power source separate from the switched source that is built into the harness. Factory harness does not include this, so would take some digging). It works, its OK, but nothing fantastic.
5.0 out of 5 stars Bought this on wootwebsite for seventy five dollars
Overall, I like it. It’s a Japanese design, made in China. I really wish it had a volume knob but the buttons do respond well. An option for an external knob would be nice. (Amplifiers are doing this with a data cable)Install:Fit in the factory brackets and I bought a vehicle specific wiring pig tail but you could cut factory harness if you want. All the wires are nicely labeled and the wires although thin 22ga stranded, seemed to be 100% copper. It has an internal steering wheel control so you just hook up the key 1,2, and swc ground. No need to an aswc-1 external controller. Has lots of rca in/outs for both audio and video. I didn’t hookup a backup camera. I am using HU amp for main speakers and external amp via rca for subwoofer.CarPlay:This was my main purpose in getting this HU and it works great on wired and wireless. I did have a couple issues advancing songs on pandora but it may have been my phone. Integration seems pretty good so far. No big issues but I have only used it a couple drives. I usually use google maps and streaming music at the same time. It lowers the music for maps to talk and mutes the music for phone calls, then puts map directions over phone calls. Listener does not hear map directions and phone call quality seems great compared to other factory and aftermarket systems I have used. I am not using an external mic, just the one on the front of the HU. I have found switching between phones is much easier if you just use the usb (wired) CarPlay. Wireless works but many button pushes to disconnect the current phone.Android Auto:Have not tried itRadio:Sounds good and responsive. Unit has rds but does not display the info big in front like most units do, that would be my only complaint.Features:It has a built in LFP and HFP for main speakers plus a LFP for the sub. Delay settings for each speaker. Full band EQ and loudness. Sounds great to me but DSP would be the next step. For me, this HU does everything I want. I was really afraid of the Chinese HU that run android OS and reports of the HU being clunky and slow. This one seems to work as well as a factory oem unit.Update: a couple week in. One of the head units froze up on me while using google maps on CarPlay. I was able to get it going again by selecting a different mode (radio) go back to CarPlay. No other issues.
5.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good!
I purchased this on woot.com and was a bit worried cause it was fairly inexpensive ($75), but figured I'd give it a go anyways. Honestly, I was replacing an old pioneer head unit that I've had for roughly 12 years and having to connect my phone was just getting OLD! Bring in this little guy! Super simply install and the wires were all labeled, making it incredibly easy. Installed a backup camera while I was at it and since it's got setting specifically for one, I didn't have to bother cutting any wires to remove the "mirrored view or help markers". Setup was a breeze. It connected right to my phone and I didn't bother to install an external mic because the one built in worked perfectly and CLEARLY. Also, the included GPS antenna was another welcome addition! All in all, I've had it installed for about a week now and everything is good to go.Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the sound turns OFF when you put it in reverse (or shift past reverse). That's a bit of an annoyance, but nothing too awful bad. You can up the volume in the settings to 30 while the rear camera is on, but it's still really low? Again, not a killer, but a annoyance.Lastly, the system takes around 5-10 seconds after engine starting to get going.
