5.0 out of 5 stars FOUR Subnado's racked together, clean, light, neat, SIXTY pounds of Thrust!
How cool is this? I already two regular kits so I used the thumb controllers from those kits on the 2 added Main units for this setup!(See Special K review of full kit for details on the units.)This was a fun project!Enter pure American ingenuity; I simply strapped the front arm-mount strap to the rack-mounted unit, then click in the 2nd unit and strapped the rear with hook/loop strap!Simple, clean and effective. The bottom units are controlled by the finger triggers, the top units by the built in trigger on the Dual-mount rack. The bottom units aren't going anywhere, very solid install!I ordered 1" wide Hook & loop strap and clips.....Bolo- $6 to strap the arm mounts to the top units. Once strapped, there is a the factory hardware connection to the 2nd unit. I could have used the factory rear strap but it's very heavy duty and there would have been a lot "left over" waving in front of 4 hungry props! The total weight for a 4x set is 15.4lbs. It takes 15 seconds to release both bottom units.....in case I just want a set of charged spares for the dual rack or want to take friends! Buying the way I did(2-full kits plus 2-main units & 1 dual rack), I have the dual rack mount plus 4 other arm or single rack type mounts. I can take 3 friends if I want and we can each have one! One was plenty enough....but I did this X4 mod just for fun(no one gave them to me).Fun is;SIXTY LBS of thrust.A little research shows this was by far the best way to do this. The only other modular unit is the ****** and it's a max of two units giving you a total of only 36lbs of thrust for more money & the same weight! The pro level models($2,500-$6,000) only give you more time, not more thrust at 37lbs, for a lot more money!Airline approved, these have already gone to Jamaica to snorkel in the ocean for 2 weeks and will be going to explore the Springs in Florida next month with friends.Vid to follow next week!Pro Tip;I removed the bright orange safety lanyard just to take the pictures, PUT IT BACK before you go out! It's not a heavy unit in the water but it will sink like a stone, you don't want to lose your toys!Disclaimer- This modification is Special K approved, I cannot say it is factory approved, yet!UPdate 8/7/23, you tube vid will get posted soon.It was FAST!Most noticeable in the water with it was that it was heavier than I liked it, and it's heavy enough that I prob will only set it up to show folks, it's just not practical for me. There was an engineering issue-the two units on the bottom tried to flip the entire unit upwards as you used it. If you look at how I hold it, you can see how the bottom units aren't "countered" since the grips are outside of the top units and would need to be extended to use it often. That put a huge strain on the wrists. Imagine if you will, holding a Electric outboard boat engine with your hands, and starting it on full blast...................holy crud it was fast but it beat you to death for every yard! The Jet wash alone makes it so you can't angle it at your body or it becomes self-defeating, right? It was too powerful to hold offset- think doing an IRON CROSS on the ropes....same deal! I'm just not there anymore. It was doable for a reasonable amount of time for superman but not recommended for mortal folks. I ran it for a while as 4X then released the bottom 2 units to go back to the 2X on the rack. Much more fun.Special K
1.0 out of 5 stars Beware: Expensive Essential Attachment/Fittings Fail Fast. So Does Battery
I was super excited when I ordered my first Subnado. I bought the deluxe kit and paid for a few extra attachments. Tried it out immediately and it was FUN! Moved pretty fast in the water. Tho the battery ran out faster than advertised. But no worries I would just buy an extra battery. Except the battery is built in and not sold separately. No worries! I just bought a second one to use for longer snorkels and for my wife to use because I enjoyed it so much. But wait, there's more. . . I bought these Subnados for an ABC cruise coming up in just 10 days, so when I got the new one, I re-tested the first one. Found out that when I pulled out the control attachment for the handle bracket thumb controller to apply additional silicone lubricant (which absolutely must seal completely from water) the slip-in attachment would no longer fit back in. Now I can't close the battery compartment at all. I tried some other controller cords and they fit fine. But the original Handle Bracket controller connector wouldn't fit the first or second Subnado after only one use. This is a Chinese company with no US customer service by phone. Just chat or email and they take at least 24 hours to respond. Now I'm stuck with nearly $1,000 worth of Subnados and gear, and a Handle Bracket that is useless for either one. I have contacted Waydoo customer service and am waiting upon a reply. If they send me a replacement wire controller in time for our cruise, I will change my review. If not, I'm returning the whole kit and caboodle.
5.0 out of 5 stars Compact, easy to use
Not sure how I ever snorkeled before my Subnado. 200# cruising through the seas with the greatest of ease. Low speed, no kicking ease of viewing to High speed, quick chase - all with full finger control. 5 stars. Easy to get started, charge, and pack. Carry on through TSA with masks and fins. Getting another!
3.0 out of 5 stars warning I am out $300
Bought two of this this thruster and used twice and one will now not charge just flashes different lights and beeps. Huge loss for me because I am poor
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing product
This is a great product everyone living by the water or just swimming in the pool should have one this makes every experience amazing and is great for the entire family!
2.0 out of 5 stars Fun when/while it works, but unreliable components
When it works, it’s great. Particularly useful for drift driving situations where one wants to go against the current. Relatively light, lasts long, strong thrust, and versatile in how it can be used (I preferred attaching on my arm).Unfortunately, it starts failing fast. First, the little plastic protrusion for fastening there arm strap just broke off after 5-6 uses. I could mitigate that by looping the strap a different way, but not optimal. After about 20 uses, the thumb controller got stuck in “run” mode. Warranty on that part was only 6 months. And it failed during the 3 dive in a remote destination, so this was a paperweight for that trip. Bought 3 replacements for the next trip, and just as well because one controller failed after 2-3 dives! But worse, the battery or the charge regulator chip started failing 18 months after purchase (again, in a remote destination): basically, it would go from 75% to 0% (and off/unresponsive) immediately - so, I could get about 25% of its use.I contacted the company by email, the hypothesized the above failure mode, then said “well, it’s out of warranty - how about we give you 10% discount for a replacement?”Thanks, but no thanks. My recommendation is to hold off until fix the quality issues.
5.0 out of 5 stars very is a nice product, thanks!
It is super. Quality product.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not complete set
Unfortunately the set doesnt come with the controller, this means you have to buy it seprate, and the description here is nit clear what included in the package, which is disappointing, because you think you would buy product that can run
