5.0 out of 5 stars Very tough
We had bought a Benebone, which is inedible, because they were supposed to be almost indestructible. Our 10 year old golden retriever had the end in shards on the first chew, so we took it away and sent it back. The Better Bone is edible and non-toxic, and it turns out much harder than the Benebone. We've had it a week and it looks like new. Much better choice and will last a long time.
5.0 out of 5 stars Long lasting, pricey.
My aggressive chewers that can mow through antlers love them. They are very hard. They do not splinter. Small sawdust like pieces come off but it's not excessive. A friend got the puppy version and thought it was too soft and many more pieces came off. They're made of cellulose which is essentially paper and I'd rather have my dogs pass pieces of that through their digestive tract than nylon/rayon/plastic. They have lasted for over a month, I fully expect at least 2 by our daily usage. The large is a big size. When they first arrived I thought they were going to be too big for my 30 to 40 lb dogs, but they like holding it. I would assume that any large breed dog except for the extra large breeds would be happy with the size of this. They have no odor wet or dry. I think it is good value for how long they last AND because it's an alternative to the plastic garbage out there. I still think pricey for a chew that is probably very cheap to make, but kudos to them for excellent execution and exceeding my expectations.
5.0 out of 5 stars Much better bone
Got this for my pit bulls. Heavy duty for power chewers. No hard plastic stuck in their beds or poking my bare feet on the floor after they've chewed the heck out of it. Lasts a really long time too. They're still chewing on it and it's still in tact. Other bones like nylabone, purchased well after these and given as a gift to the dogs I had to throw out a week later because was sharp, dangerous and half gone. Those just don't last at all with my power chewing dogs. I definitely recommend it Had this for many months now and only has some teeth marks on ends. Dogs love it and easier for them to hold onto.
4.0 out of 5 stars Okay
A lot of research to find that this bone is made of something that is OK for a dog to be chewing. That is why I purchased it. I have learned, however, that my dog, being only 30 pounds, prefers toys that are a little bit smaller. This toy is big and substantial and chewable And very rigid. I think that because of its size, my dog is a little bit disinterested in playing with it for any length of time. I am going to look for a smaller version of it, but from the same company, saving this one for when perhaps maybe he Is bigger.
5.0 out of 5 stars So good i added these to my dogs’ monthly subscriptions!!
I have a pitbull mix and a chihuahua mix and they both love chomping on these! I used to get them benebone’s and nylabones etc but i hated accidentally stepping on the rough spiky part and they got all gross and dirt kept sticking to those. I also tried wood based chews but those broke down too easily and i was worried my dogs would swallow pieces and hurt their tummy’s.This one is actually perfect??? I love that it’s made from sugarcane etc which means not wood and not entirely plastic/nylon. It breaks off very very slowly/in small bits but it really takes them a lot longer to ground down the edges enough for me to throw it out. No spiky or sticky wet areas on there even as they are chewing. My dogs have these on subscribe and save lol and get a new one every month or so to keep it in rotation. They are big enough for a range of dog sizes, we have the smaller bone size and my 60+ lbs pit mix holds it perfectly fine without it being a size/choking hazard. They’re entertained for hours and sometimes fall asleep chewing these. As it gets ground down, it doesn’t get sharp at all!EDIT July 2024: Okay so they aren’t doing subscribe and save on these anymore for some reason (probably inventory) but I intend to add it again once available.I also wanted to add the noise complaints everyone has is valid. I’m not particularly fond of the hard crunching sound when we are trying to sleep, but otherwise it’s relatively loud but still bearable if you’re watching something and your dog is chewing this. Trying to train my dogs to chew it in the living room instead of the bedroom but they keep bringing it in with them cause they love it so much lol
3.0 out of 5 stars Very big
If you have a mastiff or great Dane large is your bone. They don't have a medium so doesn't work for me. Flavor great and it's not Nylon that's why I bought it. Just very big
5.0 out of 5 stars its like a pacifier
I have a 40 pound lab mix, who is currently in her landshark/piranha/teenager phase and everything is a toy, even if it's not, and everything is edible, even if it's not. She has a sensitive stomach so I wanted to stay away from rawhide, but the "rawhide alternative" treats get devoured in about 60 seconds. I've tried yak cheese (medium density) and that lasted a whopping five minutes. I didn't want to try a Nylabone, since I knew my terror would ignore the "do not ingest" label and attempt to ingest regardless, and then I'd be pulling it out of her mouth and she'd give me the "Mom, you're actively making my life miserable, I'm going to run away and never return" look.Enter many hours of googling variations of "super tough extreme chewer safe edible dog toy treat bone -nylon -rawhide -yak", and this BetterBone pops up. I took a gamble and ordered it on June 15.That was three weeks ago.The fact this thing still exists, and is mostly intact, feels like a miracle. And she LOVES it. She chews it almost every day. The only signs of wear are on the knobbly end, which is her favorite texture. The smooth end and spiral end show little to no wear, although she does sometimes chew on those ends.It really works like a pacifier and keeps her calm and occupied for a good hour.Absolutely would, and will, buy again. The price point might be a deterrent for some, but I could either spend the same amount in a week on yak cheese or rawhide alternatives, or I could spend it once and have this thing last for probably months.
Endless entertainment for my dog!
THIS IS AN AMAZING, INCREDIBLE CHEW TOY.I have a potcake (terrier mix) from St. Lucia that's 33lbs. He gets bored easily as he's still a puppy (9 months), and no matter what I gave him, he would destroy it. I had to stop giving him stuffed animals and anything that wasn't made of REALLY durable rubber.I never believed in giving these kinds of bones to dogs because they break off shards of nylon, and it made absolutely no sense to me. How could you purposely give your dog something that they can break off during play and it can harm them when they swallow it? I still don't get it.THIS ONE. It's made of organic, natural materials, so I'm not worried at all about if my dog consumes it. That said, there aren't any pieces coming off it! He's making consistent gouges in it (see attachment), but he absolutely loves it. IT's gotten to the point where if I hear him chewing on this bone, I breathe a sigh of relief because I know he's playing with something safe. He has had no issues, and we've had this toy for months and it's still in GREAT condition! The price point is pretty high, but you're going to get SO much more toy for SO much more time, it's worth the investment. Thank you better bone!UPDATE:it’s July 2024 and my boy finally broke off a chunk from the long end. I’m thinking of just sanding down the sharp edges and giving it back to him! He still LOVES it!
Bettabones are better
Perfect for chomping 🐕
Worth the cost!
Purchased a few months ago & hardly a dent in it. Our dog loves it. We put it up until she asks for it so she doesn't get bored. .. but she chews on it every day. Very hard but no issues with her teeth. Very happy with our purchase
4lb Toy Poodle
My 4lb toy poodle is living a hypoallergenic life while we try to figure out what makes her itchy. The size small one is a bit big and heavy for her but she managed to leave some small marks on it within a few days but the pic is at a month and it's still going strong. I left it in water with a few drops of liquid smoke to make it more interesting for her (my vet suggested). Will buy it again if she ever kills it, would be nice if there was a tiny size though.
3 days in and barely scratched!
I have a 1-year-old Dutch Sheppard who will literally destroy the "toughest" of chew toys within an hour. It's been 3 days and so far, he's barely made a dent on it! He loves chewing on it on and off all day.I do recommend making sure your dog's teeth are in good condition because it's extremely dense and hard. If your dog's teeth aren't in the best shape, I wouldn't recommend this because I could see it damaging not-so-great teeth. The scratches he has made are completely smooth and aren't sharp/dangerous like plastic toys. My dog also hasn't shown any signs of being sick from it and his bathroom routines have been completely normal. If your dog destroys everything and has great teeth, I highly recommend this! I will be buying more once this one is done!EDIT: he has now finally chewed through the top part after 3 months! In the process of ordering another one!
