UNLOCK THE SECRET…
Academy Award-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese directs this audacious adaptation of Brian Selznick’s award winning novel, a magical, mysterious adventure and an exhilarating ode to cinema itself.
Hugo Cabret is an orphan, living secretly in the walls of a Paris train station, tending to the many clocks, stealing what he needs to survive and hiding from the ruthless station inspector. But his clandestine life and precious secrets are threatened when he is caught thieving by the bitter old man who runs a toy booth at the station, and Hugo’s world becomes enmeshed with that of the shop owner and his bookish granddaughter. A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a mechanical man, and a hidden message from Hugo’s dead father are all connected to a place where dreams are made.
A heartfelt love letter to the magic of moving pictures, Hugo is a triumph of imaginative movie making and a gift for film-lovers everywhere. This epic Arrow Video edition marks the film’s debut on stunning 4K UHD and comes packed with a bounty of new extras.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imaginative, visually striking & devoid of violence, Hugo is one of Scosese's best!
A true visual feast, Hugo, by master filmmaker Martin Scorsese, is practically made for 4K Blu-ray! The fabulously memorable images are taken up to the next level by the improved resolution and the additional depth of HDR.I love the fact that every once in a while Scorsese ventures away from murder and violence to experiment in other genres. This time he tried his hand at a family film and produced one of the best. It is visually imaginative, emotional and dreamlike, and also filled with excellent performances from child as well as adult actors of the highest caliber. It is ALL done so well! This is a film to please adult and child viewers alike, one of the few films an entire family can watch together and all ages will be thoroughly entertained by.Who would have expected such a thing from Martin Scorsese of all people! This disc set also includes the movie in 3D, and if you still have a 3D TV or have a projector (which usually still support 3D) I will note that Hugo uses 3D far more "artistically" than I've ever seen done elsewhere, composing the images in 3 dimensional space in a manner that is truly masterful. Being Scorsese's ONLY film actually CONCEIVED FOR 3D, he did not waste the medium and made it integral to the composition of the scenes, using the extra dimension very artistically, the way a master classical painter would have utilized 3D if it had been available to such masters at the time. It's a truly phenomenal and thoroughly memorable 3D presentation!Concerning the 4K disc:This 4K Blu-ray looks and sounds excellent (a noticable improvement over the streaming version on both fronts) and comes very highly recommended. As I said earlier, this movie's incredible imagery and fantastic visual sense is practically MADE for 4K!One of Scorsese's most unusual films, and one which is masterfully visualized in every conceivable manner, Hugo is a "must have" for both collectors of 4K Blu-rays and of 3D Blu-rays alike! And you actually get both included together here!Be prepared to be swept away by the visual imagery and emotionally moved by the wonderful story and fantastic acting in Hugo.I couldn't recommend the 4K Blu-ray set of this rarity, a visually spectacular movie with real heart, any more highly than I do!

Supported this since it came with the new 4K and the Native 3D Blu Ray.I have not touched the 4K disc yet, but the 3D Blu Ray was perfect.
5.0 out of 5 stars Must watch masterpiece
I own the original 10 years ago 1080p bluray which at the time was reference quality. This remaster in 4k and hdr is demonstrated quality.A tribute to an amazing story. This is not a movie about a train station, a clock, and a bitter old man. This is a movie about what it is to be a member of humanity.Spoiler alert. Everyone is redeemed by the end. There is no evil or good. There is just us.
5.0 out of 5 stars A feast for all the senses. Magical
I hadn't enjoyed it so much in a long time. Visually very beautiful film, as well as the story and the choice of actors. It's a change from movies where there's only fights and killings. We still know how to make people dream. Thank you Mr Scorsese

Celebrating the magic machine
Martin Scorsese's latest film is wonderful entertainment for all ages, with everything a great family film should have: a warmhearted story with drama and suspense, a cartoonish villain who turns out to be human after all, appealing characters played with just the right balance between simplicity and psychological realism, even scene-stealing dogs and a happy ending. It is also visually spectacular, even without 3D (i haven't seen this film in a theatre). The period detail is impeccable, yet with a strong sense throughout that magic is afoot. Right from the opening shot, the special effects are state-of-the-art and always integral to the story.Yet this is more than a family film. For one thing, it is rich in details that only sophisticated viewers will notice, such as the fleeting apparitions of James Joyce and Salvador Dali. (Unlike Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, which is set in the same city and period, this film does not focus on the now-famous artists and writers who gathered there in the 1920s.) But above all, it's a direct celebration of the magic of movies -- specifically of Georges Méliès, who began as a 19th-century stage magician with a brilliant mechanical sense, and went on to discover new ways of using machines to create illusions. This is of course an homage to a film pioneer, paid by a director with an encyclopedic knowledge of (and respect for) the cinematic art and its history. But it's also a strikingly original take on machines, a counterpoint to classics like Chaplin's Modern Times or Fritz Lang's Metropolis, where giant machines represent everything that stifles creativity and life. Ever since William Blake, the vision of the universe as a vast machine has only seemed vastly evil, or at least depressing, to most of us. That feeling also comes across in Hugo, but only briefly, as a fleeting nightmare. Hugo himself is driven by the opposite feeling. As he says in the middle of the film, he is deeply attracted to the idea of the universe as a machine, because machines come without any useless parts, and that means that every life -- including his own -- must have a purpose. His immediate purpose is to fix the mysterious automaton his father has left him -- but that only leads him to a deeper purpose (which of course i won't reveal to those who haven't seen the film.)Entertaining as it is, this film too leads us deeper into the paradoxes involved in human relations with technology. The many extras included on the blu-ray in this combo package offer plenty of insight into the history, artistry and technology behind the film. Viewers who are philosophically inclined will find further entertainment in pondering the paradoxes involved in the meshing of machinery and creativity, perhaps also of illusion and reality. In short, there's plenty here for everyone who likes movies.
