It really is an “hourglass”! I tested this with the sand flowing through and it really did last about an hour, and the same when it flows back after being turned over.This is really beautiful to look at but also functional. If you need a timer for measuring the length of a relaxing activity, without an alarm going off, this may be just right for you. As someone who gets bored focusing on certain tasks for a long time, this helps my brain define blocks of time. So, I’ll flip the hourglass and clean up a specific room for an hour.Aesthetically it’s absolutely beautiful. Straight out of the box, it was packaged well and arrived in great condition. At first I felt nervous that the glass capsule would somehow slip out but it is actually quite secure. The glass has a pretty iridescent cast on it, which does make the sand a bit harder to see clearly but it’s very beautiful to watch.Overall I think this is a good value for aesthetic and function.

A high quality hour glass that runs very close to the right time. The description states a 5-minute deviation, but it was only about a minute over – plus several seconds because the sand somehow got stuck right near the very end and I had to shake it a little to get the end of the sand to flow. I love how fantastic it looks in person – very attractive and simple piece.

Absolutely love the color of the glass, wood and sand combination. I have seen this sold in stores for high end prices. I have added to my collection in my office. Highly recommend if you are looking for something like this to add to your home or office.

It looks amazing when the sun shines on it
I love this hourglass sand timer the iridescent glass is beautiful in the sunlight, it is a bit difficult to see the black sand but it doesn't matter to me as its a lovely item. Its good quality and a good price. It arrived on time and packed very well. The screws to the frame do need to be tightened up before use. I'm very pleased with the item.
