5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious!
These are probably the best tasting dried pears I have tried so far. They are not over hydrated or to dry. I definitely will order again
4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty, gave me a sugar rush
They are dehydrated little pears, vacuum sealed in 5 packages. Pleasantly chewy texture (like a lot of dehydrated fruit) and very tasty. You can eat most whole, but some of the larger ones may have a few seeds for you to spit out.I'm very satisfied. However I will note that although it says no sugar added, pears are naturally high sugar fruits, and I guess either this variety or the drying process brings out that sugar even more, because these gave a sugar rush (quite reliably, 3 different times).Per the package it's almost 10g sugar (2.5 teaspoons) per piece! You may want to adhere to the suggested serving size on the package and have just 1-2 pieces at a time.
3.0 out of 5 stars Grainy
The flavor of the pears seems OK. The issue we had was the texture. It was just grainy and unpleasant. Some people might complain about it being too bouncy or something too but the major sticking point was the grainy texture and we did not eat more than one of the separate packages.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool
Well, I had never tried anything like these dried Armenian pairs. The texture was really interesting. It was kind of bouncy and a bit chewy and very good. The flavor was not super strong, but they were sweet to me. Very nice.
4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised! Love that there's different small packages within larger bag.
I had never had dried pears before but I love pears and I always enjoy dried fruit so I figured why not give them a try. I'm glad I did. These are interesting in that they're WHOLE pears that are dried down into a much smaller size. They still have their stem, which is actually really nice to use to hold it to eat from. It's almost like a lollipop. They taste is nice. It definitely tastes like pears but maybe not as sweet and a little muted in flavor. But still quite enjoyable. The texture is chewy but not as chewy or gelled as dried pineapple. It's closer to dried apple slices, that chewy texture. They also have that graininess that fresh pears have. That texture comes through, too. You do have to watch out as you may sometimes get a pit in there but not with every one. I really like that the one pound bag comes with 5 individually wrapped bags of about 4 or 5 dried pears in each. This is great so you don't have to open the huge bag and risk them dring out before you finish them. The price nay seem high for a pound of fruit but you must remember that it's a pound of dried fruit so it took a lot more than a pound to get to this. Plus, these are really different and something special to try.
5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good and Fascinating!!
So, I was a bit concerned after reading a review for these that said they were "rubbery and tasteless", I had low expectations. But I'm glad to say that that reviewer was wrong! Well... they weren't entirely wrong, BUT I think it is just that they weren't all that familiar with this type of dried fruit. If you have ever had a dried apple ring- it is also rubbery and has only a faint apple flavor, but it is so much fun to chew on! These pears are similar in texture to that. Yes, they are sort of rubbery, but they are dehydrated, and they are expected to be that texture. No problem there. I thought the flavor, on the other hand was pretty great! Milder than a fresh pear, of course, as expected, but distinctly pear flavored. And now to the fascinating aspect.... These dried pears are WHOLE dried pears, not sliced!! They are so cool! They are super reduced down in size after the dehydrating process, like little midget pears. They have their stems on still (easy to pull off) and they even have some seeds inside. I don't' know if you can just crunch those pear seeds up or not, I pulled one or two out, easily enough. I think these are so cool, and they are tasty. One thing is I noticed they are preserved with an ingredient (described "sulphered") but it is one that they use commonly with apricots, and I think figs as well, so I am guessing that is fine (and probably standard for this texture of dried fruit) so long as that is not an ingredient or process that you are sensitive to.
3.0 out of 5 stars Individually packed and tasty, but contain sulphur dioxide.
Within the larger bag, the pears are packed in groups in smaller, individual bags. That makes them easy to pop in your purse or backpack for a snack on the go, and perfect for kids. That being said, they are whole pears, so you'll need to be mindful of the seeds and stems. As for taste, they are good, but not quite as sweet as other dehydrated pears we've had in the past. One thing these do have is sulphur dioxide, a food preservative that one of our family members is allergic to. For that reason, we wouldn't buy these again, especially when it's so easy to get dried fruit without it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Truly Dried Pears, Whole Ones
These pears are really convenient. They are individually vacuum sealed, easy to put in a lunch. They are not messy or full of juice when opened. They are chewy and not the easiest thing to eat since these are whole pears. They have the stems on them and contain seeds. That would make them a possible choking hazard for children. That said, I do love the flavor. At an MSRP of 14.99 for 1 pound (at time of review), the price seems to be a little high, but not terribly so. I could see recommending them assuming you don't mind any of the issues above.
