5.0 out of 5 stars good copper wire.
works well for connection to piezo pickup.
5.0 out of 5 stars As advertised. Be aware, this is copper clad aluminum.
This is a convenient roll of 100ft of hookup wire. It's packaged on a nice plastic spool, and features opaque insulation with black and red coloration making it clear which conductor is positive and negative. I tested the 16AWG version, which is a good gauge for speaker connections or low-to-moderate current DC circuits.Kudos to Eastwire for a clear package with upfront labeling. The wire is stamped with EASTWIRE HIGH PERFORMANCE CABLE 2C 16AWG 100FT, so it's clear this is authentic and isn't just another manufacturer's wire rewound onto a spool. The spool also has a giant sticker listing the specs very clearly.Unfortunately, one of those specs is that this wire is copper clad aluminum. There are two major types of wire available: pure copper, where the entire wire is made of copper, and CCA, where the wire is mostly aluminum with just a little tube of copper on the outside. CCA does work for non-demanding circuits, and it has three small benefits: it's cheaper, it's a bit lighter weight, and it's less attractive to thieves because it's less valuable. But that's about the extent of it - copper is popular for a reason, and copper wire has lower resistance and heats up less when subjected to a higher current.Over a short 100ft run, you probably won't notice the difference - if you need everyday hookup wire for very short distances at low current, this is a perfectly fine choice. But if you want the best available, or if you're working on a circuit with demanding applications, or if you're worried about wire becoming brittle and breaking when it bends, pure copper is worth the extra investment.I've given this product five stars because Eastwire is actually honest and very upfront about what it is - many other wire spools claim to be pure copper but are actually CCA. But unless you're sure CCA works for your application, I'd probably recommend seeking out a verified pure copper alternative.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for low voltage needs
I use this for running power from a 14V transformer in the attic, to the low voltage lights in my kitchen. The voltage drop is much less with this serious 12AWG wire. It is easy to pull though small holes but has enough insulation and strength that I don't worry about it having issues with anything short of a rodent attack. This stuff is also perfect for speakers for all the same reasons.
5.0 out of 5 stars This was PERFECT for our project!
This wire was a total blessing for our recent project in one of our rental homes. We wanted to illumate the front and back stairwells, but didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars. This wire allowed us to connect all of the LED strips and a motion sensor! Now, the stairs are well lit and I want to do our own house next! I'll be picking up more of this when I do!☆This was very easy to work with! The spool keeps the wire tidy and allowed us to measure and cut without getting tangled.☆The housing is black/red, so there is no need to test which lead is hot. While the housing is durable and secure, it strips well and clean.☆Very flexible! This bends/shapes easily without breaking or damaging the wire inside. It's great for winding areas, like stair wells!☆No shorts! There have been no complaints about the lights shorting out or not working properly.☆We did decide to connect this wire to a switch and had no issues. We did add a grounding wire to be safe.♡Overall, this is great wire that is easy to use and dependable. It has a pretty wide range of uses (the 12g specifically), so I'll definitely be picking more up in the future. I especially like the price!
5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality, Low-Voltage 12/2 Wire
This is some quite nice 12/2 gauge low-voltage cabling. It is stamped with 12/24V DC use cases, so I would not recommend using it for higher than ~24V applications, or you risk electric insulation issues (e.g. don't wire it up to wall outlet AC). The cable is labeled every 2 feet with feet markers (e.g. 62ft, 64ft, etc) which is quite convenient for determining the remaining able left on the spool.I used these to make my own set of "heavy-duty" alligator cables for low-voltage project/experiments, as it's significantly cheaper than buying pre-made alligator cables.Note that this is CCA and not OFC. For a lot of use cases, this is not a deal breaker, but be aware of your project restrictions.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not a fan of copper clad aluminum.
I didn't realize this was copper clad aluminum of which I'm not a big fan. On the plus side, I guess this could be used for very low current applications maybe like speakers.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good wire
Good quality wire for just about anything. Good quantity and quality for price.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great roll of wire for general use
This is copper clad aluminum wire, which is fine for a lot of side projects that I have. I really wish I had this sooner. I have been using scraps of wire I have around, and made a couple of audio switch boxes to switch computers between headphones and speakers. The frustrations I had with my old copper wire prompted me to get this. It's nice and flexible, but will hold its shape which is good for soldering. No real downsides that I can see. It would have been nice to have a 3-color roll, but not a big deal. Red and black are the most important colors anyway. Overall very happy with this wire. I got the 18AWG which is a good all-around size.
