About this item:
New Restore & Protect Premium Full Synthetic is the biggest breakthrough in motor oil since Valvoline introduced it 150 years ago. With continuous use, Valvoline’s proprietary Active Clean technology removes up to 100% of deposits, while its exclusive Liqui-Shield technology works to prevent future deposit formation. A clean engine minimizes friction between metal surfaces, helping to improve fuel economy. Valvoline Restore & Protect is the best motor oil for any age vehicle, from a new car’s first oil change to high-mileage vehicles. There’s no other motor oil like it. Valvoline Restore and Protect Premium Full Synthetic helps maximize fuel economy, horsepower, and engine life. We made it first, so you can keep your pistons factory clean. Renew. Restore. Repeat. (*Up to 100% piston deposit removal when used as directed for four or more consecutive oil changes at standard maintenance intervals, based on adapted sequence IIIH testing.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Ticking lifters
I have a 2011 Highlander Limited which was dealer maintained since new until my Toyota maintenance plan ran out, I did my own oil change after that. Was using 0W20 Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filter every 4K mile OCI. At 120K miles, I noticed a slight ticking noise on the engine at operating temperature, no ticking on start up or on cold engine. I didn’t mind it because it comes and goes. It’s not noticeable during winter weather but started to be louder and persistent during summer esp when it’s 100F. Went to an independent shop and had them listen to the engine and they said it sounds like a lifter ticking on bank 2, went for a 2nd opinion, had the Toyota master tech listen to it and he too said it sounds like lifter tick. I asked him how much would it cost to fix it, he said it’s an engine out job and labor is pricey. The engine runs fine, no oil consumption issues, no loss of power, idles perfectly so I just told myself I’ll just drive this until the engine dies. It’s just so annoying to hear the ticking sound. Was told by a friend with the same issue (2grfe engine), to change to a higher grade oil, I tried Pennzoil platinum 0w30, ticking sound still persisted. Fast forward 138K miles, came across Lake Speed video on Valvoline R&P oil and in time for my scheduled oil change, bought the Valvoline R&P 0W20 5 qt jug at Walmart for$29,( bought 2 jugs, cheaper than buying 2 one qt bottle) Mobil 1 filter and changed the oil. Less than 100 miles on this oil, the ticking sound diminished greatly. After 1000 miles I couldn’t hear the ticking sound even at long drives and at over 100F weather. Changed the oil after 2000 miles and it was dark. Did not find any sediments on the filter though. Will run the next oil for 3000 miles and see if it’s still dark. Don’t really know what the problem was, (sticky lifter?, sludge formation?, kind of oil?). Just happy the ticking sound is gone and not have the engine pulled out of the car. Out of stock in Walmart, cheaper on Bolo.
5.0 out of 5 stars This has helped eliminate the oil consumption issues with our Subaru’s with the FB20 engine.
For any Subaru owner, they know that the FB20 is notorious for consuming oil and if you didn't know, you might want to check your oil level right now because you might be low. We have 2 of the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek Limited's with the FB20 motor and while we do change the oil every 3k the prior owners may not have been so kind which can lead to this issue. One was consuming about 2.5 to 3qts of oil between oil changes while the other was consuming about an quart between changes. After about 2 oil changes with this product, it appears to have cleaned and released the rings from being stuck from both of the vehicles. The first oil change drained almost pure black out of both cars, but after the second and third oil changes, the oil appears clean every time we check the level. I also noticed the cylinder heads are much cleaner and the tarnish has been fully removed from both vehicles. Most of all this oil has fixed the oil consumption issues with our Subaru's. We are now on the 3rd oil changes and so far, not a drop has gone missing. I've been an OEM (Idemitsu) and Mobil 1 snob for some time and I only stick with the OEM filter made by Tokyo Roki from Japan (Part Number: 15208AA160) and I still do, but after reading into this oil and watching what the oil geek had said and shown what this oil is capable of, I gave it a shot and now I highly recommend it.Word to the wise though, if you have been lazy on your oil changes (above 3-5k) I would not recommend using this product as the gunk in your block may be holding everything together or get dislodged into something or somewhere you do not want it. If you have been good about your oil changes and are looking to clean up the rings on your pistons and help oil consumption issues, I highly recommend this product.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent cleaning oil
My wife's car had greatly reduced oil consumption after 500 miles of the oil change. About 1 quart every 1,000 miles. After 500 miles there wasn't any noticeable oil consumption. Good stuff.
5.0 out of 5 stars IN THE PROCESS OF TESTING THIS ON OLD TOYOTA
Okay, ready? 1999 Toyota Camry with 2.2l 5S-FE engine, CA emissions, 201K miles in the clock. I baby this car and since I've owned it (for the last 5 years) I put the last 110K- all high-speed highway miles. It is NOT a big oil burner, but has always needed a 1/4 to a full qt during its 5000k mile oil change interval (and I'm religious about doing it right at 5K using Toyota brand oil filters). When I got this car, I started out with Mobil One 10W30, but then Bolo had just come out with their brand of synthetic 10W30, sand Project Farm tested it out to be of good quality, so I tried it. I then started getting a puff of smoke at cold start-up. A few mos later, Project Farm on YT had the "Oil Shootout" pitting all popular oils against one another. Amsoil Synthetic and Pennzoil Synthetic made from Nat'l Gas ruled the Shootout, Pennzoil being a better value with almost as good results as the Amsoil which won. So, I started using the Pennzoil for a few tear and my car loved it. The puff of smoke mostly stopped completely, with just an infrequent puff.Jump ahead to mid July 2024 and Valvoline comes out with this brand new 10W30 synthetic Restore & Protect oil that claims to clean up to 100% of the carbon off the pistons INCLUDING THE RING LANDS within 4 oil change cycles (12,000 - 20,000 miles). This claim is VERY important (see why below). So, I immediately go to Lake, The Oil Geek on YT and find his video of him interviewing the Valvoline lab scientists to ask about the science of this new oil that makes such a bold claim to remove carbon from the ring lands on a piston. Lake is excited, and so am I!(HERE'S WHY CARBON BUILD-UP ON RING LANDS IS REAL BAD) Carbon build-up in the ring lands, especially the oil control ring land on a typical combustion engine's piston IS what commonly wears out engines because the oil ring can become bound up (no free to move within the land), thus hindering the ability of the oil ring to do its job- swiping oil off the cylinder walls so oil doesn't make its way into the combustion area. But this issue also causes one side of the cylinder to wear more than the other leading to a loss of compression and blow-by. Once this happens, it's all downhill from there for an engine as oil sludge is formed from the oil burning and clogs every aspect of an engine, even if this happens on just one piston.Anyhoo, I start using this VR&P 10W30 oil and my car no longer has the slightest smoke at start-up AND it's using MUCH less than usual. I'm only on my first of 4 oil change cycles so I'll need to get back to you with updates soon.
