5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive scooter
Review after 1 month:----------------------------So far, I feel the NIU Kqi2 Pro has been amazing, especially considering the price. After a full charge, you can ride 14 miles on top performance and an additional 3 miles conservatively. It rides at a top speed of 17mph, and smoothly due to the tubeless tires. Braking might feel rushed without a suspension, but the breaking becomes seamless if you set regenerative braking to full strength which brings me to my next point which is the App. I must say it's an extremely sophisticated App and the synchronization is seamless with the user having the ability to switch modes while on the drive.Things I wish were better:1) I wish the top speed was at least 20mph. 17mph does seem slow for anything above a mile's ride. You can feel that the scooter can travel faster than its top speed limit but the US regulations restrict it from going any faster.2) I wish there were indicators since it would have been considering you can't take your hand off the stick even for a sec, but well you can't have everything in one thing.Overall, I highly recommend this product without a tinge of doubt if your commute is around 2 miles one way. I will keep updating this review as time progresses.
5.0 out of 5 stars A great value!
The KQi3 Max isn't perfect, but under $800, it can't be beat and does the basics well. The acceleration is good and it can take medium hills, unlike my entry-level M365. It's hard to modulate the throttle to gently accelerate or stay at slow speeds, but the regen is nicely tuned. The brakes are grabby, but once you get used to them, you can smoothly modulate them and stop very quickly. Shock absorption isn't great because there's no suspension, but that's hard to find at $750 and below. The weight is much higher than entry-level scooters, so it's harder to carry up stairs or sling over your shoulder. Battery life is excellent, with performance dropping a reasonable amount below 50% and the scooter still usable and capable of going above 15mph.Bonus features: I like the ability to "lock" the scooter so it can't be easily rolled away by a thief, which is nice for quick stops when a U-lock is inconvenient or difficult to affix. The headlight is bright but has a limited beam width/height. There's not too many firmware settings besides top speed, although zero start is available if you don't like kicking off. Be careful: it's easy to accidentally push the throttle and swing your scooter forward!Modding: There's no major firmware modding groups for NIU, but their firmware has most of the features you'd want. It's easy to replace the handlebar grips and add accessories since it's a standard 22mm diameter. There's a repair manual available online and it's easy to access the 48V wires and put small electronics behind the dashboard (I'm adding turn signals and a brighter headlight). Unfortunately, there's no kits to "drop in" front or rear suspension, so you'd have to do a lot of fabrication. Ditto for a rear cargo rack, which is inconvenient when you're getting groceries. The competition: Below $800, you might be able to find suspension or dual motors, but I couldn't find reputable scooters that do the basics as well as the KQi3. At $850+, the Ninebot Max G2 is an excellent scooter, but rarely goes on sale or is available refurbished. It also has merely adequate brakes and worse performance below 50%, so I don't regret skipping it (although I am jealous of the better accessory options).
1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerously Defective and Disappointing After-Sales Support
As an owner of multiple electric scooter models and brands over the years, I was looking forward to my NIU KQi3 Max experience. Unfortunately, while my initial few months of ownership were very positive, the breakdown of key parts created an incredibly dangerous riding situation, leaving the scooter unridable, and the customer support received thus far has been disappointingly inadequate. The first three months of ownership were enjoyable, and after fixing an initial stem wobble with some Loctite, the KQi3 Max scores high marks for speed, acceleration, comfort, battery life, and design compared to other models in the price range. At the three-month mark of ownership, the throttle lever of my KQi3 Max became jammed in the 'on' position while riding. This malfunction resulted in an uncontrollable burst of acceleration that not only caused a minor accident, but it also shredded the rear tire — effectively rendering the scooter useless. Considering the high speeds this scooter is capable of, I consider myself lucky to have only sustained minor injuries. It could've ended significantly worse.Having faced problems with other brands in the past, I was aware that such issues can occur. What matters is how the company handles it. I promptly contacted NIU's support team to report this dangerous defect and was met with a sluggish, impersonal response. It took a week for them to finally get back to me with a ticket closure email, informing me that they are sending a replacement part for self-installation.My ticket ID, RMA BS230605-0002, apparently doesn't merit direct communication with a support team member or a conversation on an agreeable resolution. NIU's solution appears to be sending me an unidentified part with zero context or instructions for installation. Diagnosing the precise mechanical issue, determining the correct replacement part, and having the technical know-how to correctly install it should not be assumed as commonplace skills for all customers!Given the severity of the defect, a professional repair should at least have been initiated by NIU, or barring that, a complete unit replacement. The rear tire is connected to the motor, so it is possible not only the throttle but the propulsion system itself is compromised. There's a middling chance of me correctly identifying the severity of the issue and successfully fixing it myself, but the NIU team is just resorting to the cheapest and easiest option for them, not what will actually resolve the problem. How is an unidentified DIY part a good solution? It's disheartening and alarming how dismissive NIU has been regarding a defect that directly threatens user safety. In my extensive experience with electric scooters, I have never faced such a dangerous issue coupled with such a lackadaisical approach from the support team.In light of this, I cannot recommend the NIU KQi3 Max scooter or the company's support system. I will be happy to update my review if the support team is able to adequately address the mechanical issues, but at present, with numerous other reliable options available in the market, your safety and peace of mind deserve better.
5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable, well made
Been able to hit 24mph with ease. This is an awesome scooter. Not the fastest, but for its price its well worth it. Going on two months almost 200 miles and not a single issue just as reliable and a lot faster and funner than my ninebot max. Love this scooter.
Multiple mechanical problems -terrible customer service
Do not purchase the NIU KQi3 Max! 6 week review -waste of money.Initially I was very pleased with my scooter and its performance. However, 1 month after purchasing problems started.Throttle started to get stuck in “on” and wouldn’t slow down. I was thrown off the scooter and thankfully narrowly escaped a serious collision. Scooter does not slow down on its own when throttle is released, it maintains full speed unless break is applied -this is a very dangerous flaw and could kill someone. The handle bars rattle loose after every ride and must be tightened with a screwdriver before every use.Motor also regularly overheats and after just a 10 minute ride will become burning hot. Since the motor is located in the rear tire, it gets extremely hot against the rubber tire. After just 6 weeks, the motor has melted the back tire rendering it unrideable now. In the attached photos you can see the tire is sticky and melted. I took the photos after wiping away the majority of the residue as I thought it was something sticky that I drove through, but a couple hours later I noticed it kept melting and there was more residue again.Customer service thus far has been near impossible to get ahold of.Disappointing.
Amazing !
This scooter was easy to assemble and works right out of the box. It comes with a charging cord that is a good length too.I didn't have issues with needing to connect to an app like other reviews mentioned. I never downloaded the app and have been using the scooter with no issues for months. It has two speeds, a headlight that can essentially be on high or low beam, a bell and decent brakes. It can reach about 25mph downhill. It goes slower uphill and on a constant flat and smooth road it goes about 18mph top speed.I did have some issues with the rear brakes that I needed help correcting but aside from that this is a really nice sturdy scooter.I even had a cousin try it out who weighs a little north of 300lbs and it rode nicely. The battery life is good, and after riding a couple different scooters I would say this one rides smoother on rougher roads and paths than it's smaller counterpart..
Niu KQI300P is recommended
The media could not be loaded. I have received the scooter and I have to say I’m well impressed, far better than our old one.First impressions are, it’s great. It came in a large box and was extremely well packaged. It also has a small tool T Handle Allen key to fit the screws which have something like Locktite on them to keep them in place over time. Easy well written instructions. It is very well built, suspension, nice chunky tyres, large deck and the front and rear light are lovely and bright. Also has bright indicators on each end of the handlebar which is a nice touch if you want to use them. With the addition of hazard lights for any emergency situation you might need to use them.I like that when you brake it recharges the battery, not sure how much it adds but every bit helps in my opinion. This scooter will be ideal for when I use my camper van and can use it on the sites and on my trips when I’m off grid, should be ideal for terrain.
Love it.
Max speed of 32km/h, different settings, easy to sync via bluetooth to mobile phone and app. Well worth it! Long and strong battery life makes hills easy to climb.
Can't take the smile off my face!
This is my first kick scooter, I looked at a number of brands and models. I found the Max had a great price for the features this scooter has and the range it can go. The required app took a little bit to set up but works great. I liked that it was in a safe slow mode for the first 200 meters to get used to it. I'm sure this would annoy an experienced rider but I found it helpful. I like that you can unlock the speed and go up to 38km/h. You can also unlock the zero start feature, meaning you can start moving by just pushing the throttle and not having to kick the scooter to have the motor engage. The app also let's you adjust the amount of regenerative braking. I find medium works great for my riding so far. I have done about 125 km since I got the scooter with my longest ride being 29km. It still showed about 49% battery life after that ride. I really like the range of this model. The scooter seems really well built and feels very solid. I like that it folds up easily and is not too heavy to lift. I ride mainly on paved trails and roads but it handled gravel paths really well too. It feels very stable and the handling is predictable. Bad pavement does vibrate a bit through the handle bars and the tires are the only suspension but nothing else I saw for this price had shock suspension or the range of the KQi3 Max. I can see upgrading to a model with suspension in the future (hopefully Niu will offer one at some point)So far I'm really happy with my purchase. It will definitely save me some gas money for running errands rather than taking my vehicle. Definitely recommend this scooter! Miles of smiles!
