My grandson loves his riding helmet and it's great quality as well!
4.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable but big
This is a decent riding helmet, feels comfortable and is ASTM F1163-23 certified. But it doesn't have as much ventilation and it's a higher profile compared with other ones I've used - it seems more like a ski helmet. I like the dial sizing adjustment feature - if it's used by different riders, but for personal use I prefer a helmet that's sized to fit. I would also prefer the branding to be more discrete, with just a logo instead of the Outdoor Master name which is relatively unknown in the equestrian world. It's important to replace your riding helmet every 3 to 5 years or after it's been in an impact, whichever comes first.
5.0 out of 5 stars Riding Hat
Great price for a well fitted horse 🐎 riding hat.
5.0 out of 5 stars Seems solid
I have used a variety of helmets while engaging in different sports over the years, so I think I have a good idea of what makes for a good helmet. Overall, I think this helmet is a good value for the build quality you receive, and it will keep you safe to a point. I would recommend this more for light riding and casual usage. I say this because the shell material is a bit thinner than I would like for high speed activities. Not to say that this helmet is bad or dangerous, just that you should know it's limitations.I added a picture of this shell compared to a typical construction helmet to give a sense of the thickness. That material seems solid and should totally protect during casual riding, plus it is lightweight. I am a pretty large guy at 6'6" with a 7 3/4" hat size. This fits me perfectly with the stock padding. The padding is very thick, which will definitely cushion any hits to the head. The only downside I could find is that the visor is held on with very small plastic tabs that will not take much force to break, especially as they age. So keep that in mind and be gentle with the visor.I think this helmet is more like a 9/10 and a great value for the price. I have certainly seen worse quality helmets in this price range. It is light and comfortable for many hours of use.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fits well!
I'll start by saying, I usually don't wear a helmet for riding. I don't compete, and I only got this to have a helmet handy just incase I ever felt like wearing one, so I'm not a picky/bougee equestrian by any means. That being said, overall it's a nice helmet! I like the solid matte black look with the small visor. I'm a big fan that this helmet is lightweight and breathable as that's essential where I live. It's comfortable and doesn't have any obvious pressure points. The dial is great for making sure the fit can really be perfected. The chin strap is nothing special, and I have definitely used fancier/more comfortable ones, but it seems sturdy enough and holds the helmet on just fine. I'm happy with it and think it's a great option to have on hand!
5.0 out of 5 stars Material resistente
Es un casco que se siente duradero, resistente y cómodo. Sugiero se midan la circunferencia de la cabeza porque las medidas son correctas.
3.0 out of 5 stars Thick protection; some design negatives
Outdoor Master is, from what I’ve been able to glean, known for making reasonably priced skateboard and bicycle helmets. I’m guessing they are just entering the riding helmet market.I am not a fan of this helmet, but you may be.The interior protective shell is significantly wider than your average helmet. So, if you are concerned about head safety, you’ll value the extra protection. But if you are satisfied with a helmet that meets the safety standards for riding helmets, you may prefer one that looks less bulky. I’ve included a photo showing how much larger this helmet is than another common brand of riding helmet. The helmet is advertised as having excellent ventilation. The number and size of ventilation holes is average, not excellent, as can be seen by comparing Outdoor Master’s with other brands of riding helmets. In order to get excellent ventilation, one needs to move to a much higher price point. However, there is no mesh net covering the ventilation holes as is typical for riding helmets, so somewhat more air is likely to get in. I’ve included a photo showing that the ventilation holes are unobstructed. My personal view is that Outdoor Master has misjudged the horse-riding market. While it is standard for riding helmets to include a small logo or brand name on the front or back of the helmet, it is not at all standard to spread a brand name across both sides. I’ve included photos of both sides. Anyone who wants a helmet that can be used for both everyday riding as well as shows will likely be turned off by the informal appearance of this helmet that so visibly displays the brand. I would not show in this helmet. The helmet is also very plain with very little sculpting interrupting the smooth, matt surface. The helmet is advertised as having a sun visor. That’s great, but standard for riding helmets. The real negative of this helmet is the positioning of the strap on the back that can be dialed to make the helmet fit more snuggly or loosely (a now standard feature of riding helmets). This strap should be angled down so that it is positioned where the head curves in. On this helmet, the strap is positioned straight across the widest width of the head (though you can pull it down a bit), so it is much less effective at holding the helmet on.My head size was, unfortunately, 155 cm, which made it right between a small and a medium. I chose the medium figuring that I’d be able to dial the back strap in enough to tighten it. As it turns out, I cannot and can easily pull the helmet off (which reduces safety). The small and medium are both listed as fitting a 155 cm head, which will be unfortunate for anyone, like me, whose head measures exactly 155 cm.In terms of design features, the Outdoor Master is not competitive with alternative brands. In terms of head protection and pricing it is competitive with other helmets that will be used for purposes other than showing.
