5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, silent, small... did I mention fast?
This PC is amazing, you will not believe the power inside this thing, extremely fast, everything worked like a charm since the first start up, gaming on this tiny little thing is just the extra cherry on top, do not expect 4K AAA gaming, but it is decent for most low demanding games at extremely decent FPS, you can look online for the Ryzen 7940HS with the 780M capabilities if gaming is what you want it for, but for every other task is just more than what you might ever need, blazing fast internet browsing, applications open instantly, there is not wait time for anything, click it and it is already open... so far it has been extremely reliable, hook it up with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and is hidden behind the monitor with the provided bracket for VESA mounting, only the power cord is needed, so there is no messy cables all over. If you are looking for a extremely decent performance all around desktop for home or office, you will not go wrong with this mini pc.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for gaming
I was really nervous buying this. I was hopeful that it would make for a good gaming machine to play BG3 and other similar games on. I'm not a streamer or anything. I don't need a professional machine. This works wonderfully and fits on my desk with my work machine so things don't look cluttered.Downsides, the mount that comes with it has to be screwed in. I would prefer something that could snap into place. Part of the reason this machine is nice is I can easily move it to another room if I want to use it somewhere else, needing to unscrew the mount makes it a little pointless for me. The grips on the bottom came detached when mine arrived in the box and keep falling off.It is important to note there is a definite "Up" on this machine that cannot be blocked in any way or it will overheat and shut down. I wish that had been more obviously pointed out.Otherwise I love it, there is no junk software installed on it the way so many larger brands do these days. It was very much plug and play. Does everything I need it to. Using it right now to write this review.
5.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight and Powerful
I've had the HX99G for about a week or so now. In that time I have fully reconfigured the system a couple times and ran a few tests in the process. These are my findings. What I like:I can not emphasize enough how fast this thing is. I was able to run BG3 and Total War Warhammer 2 at max settings @1080P. Blender runs great as well. The quality of materials is also readily apparent. This thing is covered in carbon fiber, the cooling solution is both quiet as a mouse and very effective. The minimalist design includes everything that matters while trimming off every gram of fat. There is a ton of I.O. allowing you to connect more pariphary devices than you could possibly need. It is very easy to access the RAM & SSDWhat I dislike:The BIOS feels like an afterthought. A UEFI would have been great. The software surrounding this device does the trick but doesn't stand up to the expectations set by the hardware. The drivers are not .exe for the most part. There is a WAN driver on Minisforim's website that is an .exe It's in Chinese but you don't have to read it to hit next.🤷🏼 (I realize this is probably more convenient for Linux users but still. Once you have internet, the AMD Adrenaline tool can get all your drivers in order.) Last thing, I would have liked a micro SD card reader and a Kensington Lock.Final thoughts, while the BIOS is mediocre and the driver support is adequate, these things are vastly overshadowed by the excellent build quality, thoughtful design and the powerful yet efficient hardware.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price
Update: a few months in and still going strong. I've noticed some games work better when launched normally and some games work better with AMD adrenaline. Nier automata did not do well launching from the AMD Adrenaline. I had to launch it normally. I had to turn off AA putting global to low but used the FidelityFX CAS and turned it up all the way but was on 1080. I got a steady 50-60 FPS. It dropped to 50 from time to time but mainly stayed at 59 FPS. I always turn on windows game optimization and add each game as high performance. I have also tried master chief collection the first game no slowdowns but I haven't played all the way through yet. I've removed the HDD and made it an external HDD and play games through the USB C data port on the front with DQ11 and it still loads too fast for me to read the words on the loading page. I made my HDD an external because I needed to pull data off of another pc. Hope this helps anyone else on the fence.Well I bought this after a lot of research. I know that people had issues with thermal throttling. So I bought fans for either side of the case. Now since they are external fans it won't keep it super cool but does help drop 5° on the APU. I haven't experienced thermal throttling on the nvme or ram. Now that being said I did add a HDD. So far everything I have thrown at it works. I'm a casual gamer and I don't own a 4k monitor so my gaming is limited to 1080p. This suits me fine and I have been able to run Strangers of Paradise, Horizon zero dawn, FF7 remake, roblox nier replicant, FF15 and below including the PR versions and a few AAA titles. Now the wifi part is fast which is nice since I am too far away for an ethernet cord and I'm not dropping a line to my gaming setup plus I have such a steady reliable signal I'm not worried. The Bluetooth is good but the distance is left to be desired. I have connected upto 3 things at once, two controllers and a Bluetooth headset. I did have any connectivity issues unless I drop back about 15 feet then it gets spotty for me it is not an issue because I'm not that far away. Noise is ok before I put the fans on. When you first boot it the fan goes high then drops to normal. It can power an external monitor by itself through the USB4 and I haven't had any issues. HDMI works like it should. Now when I hook up a usb 3 hdd I get good speeds well decent speeds upto 110 mb/s. I used to get 20 mb/s with my old computer so that's a plus. The SSD NVME is super fast. I do love the 32gb ram and in the bios I changed the VRAM to 8gb. So far it has been really good and I'm happy with it. I just wish the bottom had a fan which has the NVME, Ram and wifi card in it. The NVME does have a heat sink but that is only so good if you have a way to move the heat out because otherwise it will only do so good. I have only had it about a month so I am not sure of longevity but I'm hoping keeping everything cool will help.
Great price for performance packed into a small unit
After a month using this mini PC I decided to finally review it and add a few things about it:- For gamers, it's a VERY good price for the performance. I just finished playing Hogwarts Legacy in low settings, FSR enabled with around 30fps, which is in imo very playable and still looks good. The game never stuttered, but sometimes had some loading moments between different areas, but nothing really that impacts the gameplay and the fun. Right now I am playing Ghost of Tsushima, very low settings, HDR and FSR 3.0 enabled, getting around 30fps, and just like Hogwarts Legacy, playing very well, no stutters. If you're looking to emulate on this machine, it's also very powerful and will run Switch games at 60fps no problem, as well as PS2 and some PS3 games.- Every day use it's a breeze for this PC, things like browsing the internet, playing videos in 4K and editing videos and sound works super well, very snappy and no problems at all as well.- The form factor it's also another huge benefit as it doesn't take almost any space in my desk, and it sits just behind my monitor. If you could travel and take it with you, it's very light and compact. Finally, the only con I can think about, and it's very nitpicky from my part, it's the fan noise while running some heavy games like the ones I mentioned. But other than that, there's really no major concerns or complaints. Everything arrived correctly in the box, and was easy to set up and start using it right away.
Very powerful and quiet little machine!
This little PC is truly a powerhouse, exceeded all of my expectations. Unless you need a top tier PC for some very heavy gaming or video work, this thing will perform incredibly well in all other cases. Fortnite I could get 140FPS steady at low setting and 4k screen resolution, and if I bumped it down to 1440p could increase graphics settings and still get over 140FPS. Even when it was being pushed to the max, it was relatively quiet. And in all other instances, this thing is whisper quiet. The small form factor is really incredible, I don't know how they pulled this off so well. Even though it's a laptop GPU, because they did such a great job with thermals and are able to give the GPU full wattage, you will be surprised just how exceptionally well it performs.Lots of ports too, audio, usb-c, usb-a, hdmi, and 2.5gbit ethernet. The ports on the front are exactly what I needed too, very convenient when I have it right on my desk to plug things in quickly. As long as you're not wanting top tier graphics performance, I fully recommend this for anyone who wants a great PC in a small form factor that doesn't take up a huge amount of room. I can't imagine why i would want to have a massive PC box anymore, this is definitely the future.
Powerful little thing... Returned.
Update - Returned the PC. It was working quite well up to the point it didn't. First the wifi and bluetooth suddenly stopped working, wifi wouldn't recognize any wifi connection, and bluetooth simple disappeared. Did everything possible to try and get them back sort of replacing the wifi card, simply would not work. Then after a quick reset of windows, other features disappeared and got real slow. So I decided to just format the drive and reinstall windows, and well, windows 11 can not set up without internet.... Ethernet too wouldn't work either, tried different cables and nothing. Basically turned into a paper weight. I tried installing windows on the drive in another PC, and wouldn't allow me to enter without internet still. I just gave up and sent it back, and don't plan on getting another. 3 stars because it was great when it worked, but less then a month of using it and it just dies, not just the wifi card that died either so something seriously went wrong with it...I have only had this for a day, but so far I am extremely pleased with it. 1tb of storage was what I needed for sure, even came with a little cable where you can add a 2.5inch SATA drive on top of everything, however I can see it effecting some airflow. 32gb of DDR5 4800mhz RAM is also really nice, as my main PC is still using DDR4 3200mhz 32gb RAM, and also the Ryzen 9 6900HX with its integrated graphics is really nice. Now my main PC is better, Ryzen 7 3700X may not be as good, but I have an RTX 2070 Super in it, which no integrated graphics can get close to, at least not today, though this little thing fits my needs for what I want it for.I like having mobile setups, as previously I used a Surface Pro 7, 4 digit expensive, but lacks in performance, like seriously lacks, intel has not impressed me since AMD Ryzen 2nd gen stomped on them, and has not stopped since. Poor battery and gets hot enough to actually burn you, been needing a new setup, and really wanted something other then a laptop, maybe to make things more complicated for myself, who knows, but I chose this little PC, have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and a 16inch 144hz portable monitor, all together still cheaper then a laptop with similar specs. The fact this little thing only comes with a 120W power brick and has this sort of performance is just like Ryzen to make such a good CPU that draws little power but outputs a ton of performance.I do a lot of creative work, and a lot of gaming. Sitting in my room most of the day almost every day gets a little boring, and this little thing offers me a way to have a mobile setup that still feels like a desktop, where I am not missing my main PC, at least when I am not playing graphic intensive games, and can get more work done then I could normally, and also accomplish some light to medium gaming with great frame rate. It is mostly quiet, still hear it when the fans really kick in to cool things down, but by no means is it distracting. The 3.5mm headphone mic combo jack on the front is something I love to see, not had a phone in a bit that actually had one which is a shame, but this one I am not entirely happy with, as the sound drivers or something are off, doesn't get all that loud with headphones and sound can get distorted, not sure I can find a fix software side but it is good enough, even more so for me since I use a bluetooth speaker anyways, a BOSE Soundflex speaker.Size wise it is a little more of a box then in the images, thicker, but that is fine. I do wish at least one USB A port was up front, not just 2 Type C ports, means I have to reach around back to plug in my portable hard drive or usb drive, as I don't have many Type C to whatever my devices need, not yet anyways, so its a bit annoying, but still glad that there is as many as there is, 4 to be exact, all USB 3 or higher. It is also a shame the main body of the PC is mostly plastic, not metal, so durability is not going to be great, especially being as small as it is and if you move it around, likely may drop it once or twice, and that plastic wont stay in one piece. Also thick the rubber feet may need to be a bit taller, as to me it doesn't seem like it gets enough airflow under it, but that is just me, and from testing it, it did keep cool enough. Also Windows 11 seems to be a lot more annoying to setup then I remember, so prepare for that, as well as many updates, windows and drivers. The fact it has Wifi saved me a headache since I would have had to grabbed the Ethernet cable from my main PC, which I had to do anyways most of the way through the updates because I need a new router as mine keeps dropping wifi for some reason, and also ethernet now it seems.Overall for around $600, this little beast is totally worth it. With a portable monitor, a good bluetooth keyboard (like a foldable from ProtoArc that I am really loving) and maybe a Razer bluetooth mouse which I wise I had one but have a decent Logitech Pop mouse which I wish had the extra side buttons but does not, a good bluetooth or corded (USB) speaker and a USB microphone, and you have a clean workstation which can be moved easily, though maybe a little tedious, but still worth it for the change in scenery and also keeping that desktop feel rather then laptop or some other mobile setup feeling. I still want to do more with it, and if I have anything more to add, I will, believe me.
I got a DUD -- Bad RAM -- Awaiting Replacement, will Re-Review Post
I was very excited to get this computer. However it was clear something was wrong when it would randomly restart every 5mins to 4hours, however it would always eventually restart or freeze. While it DID work, it was fantastic, FAST and a performative machine.Originally I thought the problem was everything from the Chrome Browser, to Malware, to Bad Software updates, and spent 80+ hours trying to fix the problem, making ZERO headway. Rolling forward and back various updates and graphics drivers. Running all kinds of virus/Malware tests, following 'do this guides to fix win 11' ... eventually ... read online about doing a memory test, which can cause this type of behaviour. So I ran MemTest .. and to my (sort of) Shock.. Saw immediately that was the problem. The test itself would prematurely brick the computer. With a heavy heart I've begun the return process, and getting a replacement. I will update this Review pending the result of the new replacement arrival.** While the computer DID work --> It was fantastically fast! I Loved how fast and perfect it was, And I tested it with simultaneously running { 40+ Chrome tabs open, 4x youtube videos running, A Steam Game running, and world of warcraft running } All at the same time, and having been able to switch between multiple desktops at once. I'll never need to do any of that task load, but It can demonstrate fantastic power/per/Dollar as many reviewers of this device from last year claimed it could. -- I hope my replacement unit is fine.
