This is not a good choice to hand to a grade-schooler or group of kids on a rainy day. The instructions are poor, and many experiments require materials that are not included. While all of the experiments are reasonably safe if performed properly, kids misunderstanding the instructions or gathering dangerous versions of the extra materials needed could hurt themselves or your house.If you are an adult who knows what she's doing, this is a handy set of materials for a range of the standard grade-school science projects. You likely know how to do them already, and can look up on the Internet any additional information. You can gather the extra materials in advance, and make sure they're safe. You can explain the instructions and safety precautions. After that, you can leave the kids alone to explore for themselves.If you are not familiar with basic grade-school science projects or not interested in doing the extra work required, you should look for other kits that have clear instructions and include all necessary material.

Lots of fun experiments, good parent child activity, we did a few experiments every weekend, simple to follow instructions, would make a great gift.

My 7 year old loved opening this science kit. They were super excited to go through all the different options of what activity to do first, and it has plenty of activities that it will take a few days to go through them all. The directions could be clearer but they are easy enough to use that my 7 year old could almost do all the activities by herself.

Quite a few of the experiments do not have the supplies included. If gives you a list of things to find or buy to complete them. Also on several of the pages of the instruction booklet the experiment and supply lists did not match up. The instructions or supply listed stated were for some other experiment, some we were able to figure out some we were not. My son still had fun with what was there but it is was a bit of a disappointment.
4.0 out of 5 stars Fairly Complete Kit, But Poor Instructions
This is a fairly complete chemistry and science kit, and my 7 year old grandson is enjoying it. This is definitely a toy which requires involvement of a parent or other adult. Although the instructions are fairly well written, there are some problems, and the inventory list in the box does not match the descriptions in the instructions. For example, Experiment 13 requires "a bag of purple crystal powder," but there is no such bag in the kit, and the list of contents in the kit has no mention of such a bag. There is, however, a canister of "purple crystal powder," which is probably what the instructions are referencing. But, how much of the crystal powder is required? There is no way to tell.Another problem is that some of the experiments require that you wait an hour or more between steps, and in my experience most 5-9 year old children simply do not have the patience for that.Most of the items required for the experiments are included, with some notable lapses, and I wish that the kit included everything that was needed for the experiments, aside from water.This kit has tremendous potential, but someone needs to rethink the instructions to make certain that the instructions are consistent with the contents.

Very large and gun science kit. It has alot for my daughter to do. It not only is fun but also educational at the same time. There are many different experiments to do. This will definitely not only teach her a few things but having fun while doing it makes the lesson stick in her brain. Definitely a great fun science kit.
