5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps steady temperature
Theis 33 L Needone unit is thermoelectric and does a great job regulating, and keeping steady temperatures. I keep it at 69 degrees F and my (3) Hygrometers agree! I love that it is wider (easier access to the back) than some cabinets and therefore the shelves and drawer don't have as much weight on them when pulled out to access the cigars in the back of the unit. It only took 3 days to season and as of now (1 month later) the cedar aroma is very prevalent. I had a little issue with maintaining humidity levels but soon discovered that the surrounding humidity does affect the % in the unit. Since then I stopped using the water reservoir and am staying with 2 way bovida packs. I also love that I can fit 2 full unopened boxes in the bottom drawer and still have both shelves for singles. I have some coronas and a few petite singles, but mostly smoke Churchills so you won't get 250 capacity as stated if you have Churchills. You probably want to keep flavors separate as I have a few flavored cigars unboxed and when I open the door the aroma is very evident. So I assume the cigar flavors would merge if stored in close proximity. Although, that may not be a bad thing! I have an Ann Bully cedar glass top that holds my day to day stock so I don't access this unit often but I really love it!
5.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect but works well
The only minor complaints is the temp setting is about 2° off, I have it set at 71°f and all my temp guage measure it at 69. And the shelves have no sides so singles are going to roll off.Easy to season, 3 large Boveda packs keep it pretty stable rh wise.Imine had no plastic smell at all. Great investment if you're looking to get out of the tupperdor/desktop humidors
4.0 out of 5 stars Humidity and Smell Issues (Updated on 1/22/24)
I bought this on October 5th. I was impressed by the recommendations from cigar reviewers, and it was about the perfect size plus it cooled AND heated--which was important.I noticed when I got it, there was an odor--kind of like hydraulic fluid maybe??? I used baking soda for a week, and it didn't go away, but I figured it would go away after time. It has not. I am sad about this, but I could live with it.The last three weeks, the unit won't hold humidity. I have changed the two 320-gram Boveda packs and even bumped them from 69% to 72%. The reading is staying around 58% to 61%. NOTE: I am using a three pack of Switchbot hydrometers--one in my standard desktop humidor, one in my transition humidor and one in this unit. They have all been calibrated. It is sad because I bought this unit specifically to store my better cigars--Fuente Fuente Opus X's. Padron Serie 1926 #9s, Rocky Patel ALRs (2nd Edition), and my favorite frequent smokes--Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro lanceros & figurados. They are all going to have to be moved into another humidor now, and rehydrated and I lost the money I spent on this unit--which I reallly had high hopes for!The humidity problem with this unit has happened in the last three weeks, so my purchase is past the return date. Hopefully someone with the company reads this and takes pity on my plight. If they do, I will do a follow up review with a truthful account of events.I scored it at 2 stars because it is just this one unit and may be a fault specifically to the one I was sent. I was at 4 stars (because of the smell) until three weeks ago.Peace-r.11/22/24: I was contacted by the manufacturer about two days after I wrote this review. They have been in constant contact and responded to me quickly. They not only offered me possible ways of fixing the issue (which I am now working through), they also offered some refund to help cover the inconvenience. Alyson has been excellent in correspondence and quick to dialogue about the issues and my take on it. They actually are trying to be helpful, and that should be commended.I would say that if they hadn't read my original review and reached out, I did not have any way to connect with them that I can see. I will be interested if they find a way to QC the issue at the manufacturing stage. I am working on the smell issue now. I will see what happens with the humidity control after that.
5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT "SECOND" HUMIDOR!
The media could not be loaded. So I just started my cigar journey earlier this year, and like most beginner's I purchased your typical desktop humidor that holds 20-25 sticks. I had no problems with that but as time progressed, My collection started growing and growing so I needed more room, and that's where this beauty comes in. I recently purchased the NEEDONE 16L thermoelectric humidor 2 weeks ago, and it's PERFECT for where I'm at on my cigar journey. Big enough to hold 100 sticks "EASY" I was impressed by how quiet this thing is, and how easy it was to set up.. Basically it's self explanatory.. JUST FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! As far as the "PLASTIC SMELL" you read about in some reviews.. the only smell my humidor had was the Spanish Cedar Wood that's inside. As far as the accuracy on the hydrometer.. AFTER seasoning the humidor like the directions said, I used two Boveda packs (72%) and that's exactly what my hydrometer reads so if the hydrometer is off, it can't be by too much because when I seasoned it with the water tray included, it got up to 85 percent.. I went with the packs to regulate the humidity, and it's doing just that! As far as any regrets, the only thing I regret is getting the thermoelectric version (heating and cooling) because so far I have no need for the heating feature, and I could've gotten a bigger size with just "cooling" for the same price, but this is why I say that this is a great "SECOND" humidor for those who are new to the cigar world. I highly recommend this for beginners who are serious about cigar smoking, but don't plan on having hundreds of sticks at a time!
