5.0 out of 5 stars A great board for traveling
This is a great chess board if you travel as it is very small, lightweight and portable. Each piece of the board is magnetic so it is easy to use while in the car, plane or train. The pieces are made of plastic and they well resemble full size chess pieces. One thing you need to be careful, as other mentioned, is that the magnet might come of, and if so, you just need some super glue to put it back, but, overall not a big problem.
5.0 out of 5 stars So fun
Great for car trips and traveling. My son has had a lot of fun with this set. Just to be aware someOf the little magnets fell off so I had to reglue them to hold the pieces to the board. Without the magnets it would be too hard to keep the board organized because the pieces are so small. The pawns are about the size of a tootsie roll.
4.0 out of 5 stars Compact
This is very small. I love the thought of an easy to carry chess set but this one is almost too small. At just over 5 inches square game board, the pieces can be hard to handle and fortunately they are magnetic. However, the magnets sometimes are not strong enough and pieces may not "stick". I would prefer a larger set but if you are ok with the potential dexterity issues, then ok set to put in your backpack or tote.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Qaulity
Good to travel with, amazing quality, good magnets and fun to play.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great little chess board
A good small size and portable. The magnets helps hold the pieces secure.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Little Travel Set
First move: "Super glue to knight on B8."Second move: "Super glue to knight on G8."Hopefully your set won't have loose magnets. Mine came with two magnets dislodged from their pieces. Easy fix.The super small set is really cool. And the magnetic board and pieces make it ideal for playing on the go or in any situation in which you might need to move the board around. No instructions so... to set up the board, look for instructions online or look at my pics. The manufacturer pics show an incorrect setup with the queens misplaced and the pieces setup on the wrong sides of the board. Remember the phrase, " queen on her color." Meaning white queen starts on a white square (D1) and the black (or gold, in this case) queen starts on a black square (D8). And white starts on the first two ranks (1 and 2) and black (gold) starts on the last two ranks (7 and 8). You'd think a chess board manufacturer and / or seller would know how to play the game, but clearly this is not the case here.Tiny chess pieces can sometimes be difficult to differentiate from one another. That's not the case with these pieces. Each piece is easily identifiable and distinguishable from the others. The piece design is classic, just on a tiny scale.Overall this is an excellent travel chess set that I would recommend to anyone interested in the game.
4.0 out of 5 stars Very Cheap, but Fine
You get what you pay for; the pieces are very cheap plastic and the gate marks are showing - that means that the point where the liquid plastic was injected. All the pieces have that black dot on them, front and center on each one. Not the biggest issue but just a show of how cheaply produced these are.The pieces do have a magnet glued into the bottoms, however the glue is not very good because some of the pieces arrived with the magnets free in the baggie. If I want to use the set I'll need to glue them back in because the pieces don't stand very well on their own.The board is fine, again pretty cheap but you get what you pay for. If you don't mind doing some minor fixes with the magnets, it's a perfectly fine inexpensive option for a travel set.
5.0 out of 5 stars Designed well - but it is small
If you have thick fingers this will not work well for you. This set is mini. Tightly grouped pieces would be a problem for large fingers. The squares are about half an inch. The king is one and three-eighths inch. Pawns are seven-eighths of an inch. Smaller hands can manage a game on this board which is five inches by five inches. The board seems durable, light and easily packable. When folded the board is five inches long, two and one-half inches wide and seven-eighths of an inch deep. The chess pieces are easily recognizable. Each has a magnet in the base which allows it to stay in place on the board. The magnets are not overly strong which I believe to be a good thing and are placed well to where the chess pieces (which are plastic) are not attracted and sticking together. As for the board, it is not magnetic so that is not an issue. The actual playing area must be a thin sheet of light weight metal. The overall case is plastic. A little care is needed when packing the chessmen away. They are stored inside the folded board which creates a case. Unless the chess pieces are lying flat (or flat enough) you cannot close the case. I would not force it closed or you might break someone inside. Nor would I give this to a child who is too young or careless. The pieces are easily scattered and lost.
