5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Light!
Not really sure why anyone would complain about this light, it works and charges perfectly like any other Olight. The issue isnโt the light, itโs the app. Functionally, when you get to the light control portion of the app it works great. The issue is The app in general and that it isnโt a dedicated light control app. Itโs super finicky with ads and all that other junk. Too bad itโs not like the Govee app and user friendly
2.0 out of 5 stars Good light, bad App and dumb charging issue.
This is so close to being a great product but is sadly undermined by two issues:First the good: Great packaging, waterproof is amazing, the charging system is so much better than USB, the battery life looks good, lots of stock light patterns available that look good, they get nice and bright and you can also dim them a lot. In principal the idea of being able to control multiple lights is great.1) The app is hot garbage. Why am I being asked to log in just to adjust a BT light? How is this going to work when I'm away from an internet connection? Is it just to try and sell me more lights? Lame. This app seems very focused, I think misguidedly, on home management. The whole point of these lights is how they are mobile. This would be terrible for a home setup. Buy Hue or any other smart light brand for that. The app really seems to want you to configured rooms, etc. After initial setup my lights disappeared from the app. I think what happened was there was a different "My Home" listed when the app opens. This may have been a combination of login and home management issues. I think the app was pausing because it needed to "phone home". This is absurd. It looks as though when you group lights they all will execute the exact same program rather than each one providing part of a program. That is to say that you can't have some of them red, some orange, and some yellow to provide some texture unless you set them all individually. Not great.2) Charging.Olight used to sell the "Omino" 4 space charger. A great product, so nice to have a spot to put up to four devices. These mini spheres are too big to fit four across on that device. It looks like the Omino is discontinued as well. Bummer.I have a total of 9 Olight products total now. Am I supposed to have a giant USB multi-port spider to charge them all? What a mess.In conclusion, this is so close to being a great product but is undermined with some bad choices in the app and what's needed to charge multiple devices.
4.0 out of 5 stars App can be hit & miss
This is a very clever and well designed light that can be used in many applications. The only complaint is that the app will disconnect and can sometimes be non responsive.
1.0 out of 5 stars Another beautiful, yet highly flawed gadget.
Requires wifi to operate. Can't control speed or create your own design. And even if you create an account with Olight, it doesn't remember your device. Overpriced night lite. I'd return it but already threw out package.
3.0 out of 5 stars Cool little light with app issues
The sphere itself is a very cool little light. The problem I was having is with the Olight app. I have two of the spheres. When I add both to the app it will constantly crash on one of the lights and say the Device Failed To Connect. I deleted the lights off the app, paired again, restarted the app, cleared the cache, etc.. Ive tried everything. If I only add one sphere to the app they work fine. It only happens when adding two spheres to the Olight app.
5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for night gremlins..
This light works great. As someone who works overnights I love using the red light function to maneuver around my house at night so as not to wake anyone else up or hurt my eyes (iykyk). The magnetic feature is awesome I actually use it a lot more than I thought I would. One of my favorite features of this light is you don't need the app for it to work. The ability to just turn it on and turn it up/down without a remote or app required is awesome.
2.0 out of 5 stars Had an LED fail within a day. Poor 'connectivity' - only manual controls.
Update:10/4/24: replacement arrived, so have 2 at the moment. I've since gotten the app. Having a smart home, it would be nice to be able to pair this. You can only do so in China? The app is location locked. There is another app, the olight store app, which allows you to control it over Bluetooth. It's easily the worst Bluetooth connectivity I've ever seen - for both spheres. Takes ~30 seconds to connect to each light individually each time you open it. It 'syncs to music', which apparently involves randomly strobing different colors. Again, you can only do this on one at a time. I don't see the use in two except for two users. Was hoping to use in the car as part of a Halloween decoration, but I can't reliably connect to the device or control it with the app to use it. The manual switch works on the bottom, but there are more modes in the settings. This is frustrating, as if you could set customizable configurations this would be a really awesome device and a great addition to my Phillips Hue filled house or in my theater room. As is though, it has about 6 modes that are practical to access and use. The app also requires full precise 24/7 location sharing and to be able to see all nearby devices to be able ot use if that matters to you. It bothered me for a Bluetooth controlled device... why would that EVER be necessary WITH a Bluetooth device???9/30/24: Welp, one of the LED's has gone out. Or, there's one massive gap circular gap that's developed somehow. It's hard to get it to appear in a picture as the light has to be on. I tried to highlight it in pics. As I plan to use it as a backup 'road flare' I'm not returning, but disappointing to have one fail within a day. It's had ~2 hours of intermittent use since arriving 14 hours ago, and has been on the counter in an air conditioned house (no water, weather, heat/cold, drops, etc.). I suppose the bright side is it's still usable when one of the many LED's eventually fails. It just looked cooler as a nearly full sphere of even light.9/29/24: They'll release a normal and large sized version as with their last generation, but for now the $20 mini light works fine. It's not as bright as you might expect from olight, but the dual shells disperse the led's well. Good as a night light for a small area (not for holding and walking), backup emergency light with the red flash, or just as a toy.
