5.0 out of 5 stars Really 4.5 stars. Packed with functions and features, well-designed, but has some quirks.

There's a running joke that calculators are a constant of the universe. In terms of speed, features, and price, they haven't changed much in the last 30 years. This is partly due to the interface and partly because it is a niche application that has been incorporated into many other devices and partly because very few people calculate anything anymore. This calculator doesn't quite break that mold --- but it does pack a lot of features for a relatively low price. It has the feel of a TI or Casio calc rather than an HP one (in terms of key firmness), and isn't a graphing calc. However, it sports an enormous number of modes and functions for calculus, base-n calcs, statistics (including regressions), matrix algebra, and so on. It also includes a lot of physical constants and unit conversion features. Obviously, data entry will be tedious for some of these features --- but the same was true on my HP graphing calc. For those not used to calculators, the numeric pad may seem weird. That's because it's upside down from a phone keypad. The calculator also includes a scratch pad and a small plastic pen. The big button on the upper right isn't the on/off, it's to "clear" the scratch pad. The scratch pad appears to be eink or passive or something, since it retains the image even when the calc is off (though I haven't checked what happens when the battery drains). There is no brightness control on the scratch pad, and you need to press hard or the lines will be very faint. I have no idea what that bodes for its lifespan. Bear in mind that the scratch pad is purely that. There is no OCR for calculation, etc --- which isn't surprising since there IS no usable OCR for math (at least that I've ever seen). Unfortunately, there is no "eraser" or undo for the scratchpad, so clearing it is the only option if you make a mistake.I like this calculator a lot, the questionable pink coloring (which isn't as bad as it seemed and kind of grows on you) aside. The reason I would give it 4.5 stars instead of 5 is the ease of use. You can do a lot on this calc --- and quickly, once you know how. However, a lot of choices are buried in menus. To their credit, they do include a quick start guide that guides you to a PDF full manual online. The latter has a lot of useful info (including tolerances, etc). However, it falls short in a few key areas. First, it clearly was written for a range of their calculators. The key color codes it references weren't applicable to my calculator. They reference a removable battery, but the device clearly is USB rechargeable (with a nice little solar panel as well). Most problematic: the manual refers to sections which don't exist, has no index, and has no table of contents. Even PDF search doesn't work well on it. Finding what you need is challenging, and you'll have to figure out a lot of stuff on your own. This said, if you're smart enough to do calculus, you probably can manage that.A few quick tips:1. When you start, you're in "math" mode. If you type 3/2 (with their division, not /), it shows a fraction. To get to ordinary numeric calculator mode, hit shift, then mode (i.e. enter the "setup" menu). This is odd since all other modes are in the non-shifted mode menu.2. "shift"-something means hit shift, then release it and hit the button. Don't press them simultaneously.3. To turn it off, hit shift then AC.4. The big power-looking button on the upper right is the "clear scratch pad" button, not the on/off button. The on button is straight down from it.5. The switch next to the usb port which looks a lot like on/off is not. It is a "lock scratchpad" switch. Handy, though.6. Press hard to see anything on the scratch pad. The scratch pad persists when you turn off power. You also can write on it (and clear it) when the power is off. It truly is independent. I'm not sure what happens if the battery is empty, though.7. You need to download the manual (it's a simple pdf), because the little start guide they include is very basic.8. The pen for the scratch pad is hidden inside the device. On the corner by the 0 key there is a rough spot (which looks like a button). If you pull on it parallel to the long edge, the pen will come out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Odd to get used to

It's nice to have a sketch pad attached to the calculator. I'm left handed so its a little inconvenient, but far more convenient than having to put everything down for a notepad. I have other calculators, even scientific ones, but this is the one I keep handy.

I wish I had one of these when I was younger. My daughter needed a calculator for school. It works really good. It got all the things the scientific calculator needs but I love the area where you can actually write and figure out the problem while using the calcutaor.

This calculator is pretty interesting as it is different than most I have owned before. My favorite thing about it is its ability to fold and that it has a blank screen on it for calculations. It is battery-powered and has many mathematical uses. (as it is a scientific calculator). It allows the user to go into shift mode to make more equations and allows the user to save and alter modes. It is made of high-quality material as the base of the tool and doesn't get marked up easily by dirt or other substances and so far the battery has lasted quite a long time in my opinion. It isn't too large but it also doesn't have the most compact design, which I was happy with because my bag is large and it allows me to see the keys more clearly. Along with this, it comes with an almost hidden and small pen for the flip screen in the case. In all, I like this calculator and would recommend it as a great long-lasting tool for school.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Like The Notepad Feature

This calculator has a feature that I have never seen before. Usually, when I am using a calculator, I have paper next to me to write down the results of calculations. Frankly, I find that a lot easier to use than trying to remember what I stored in Mem1 versus Mem2 versus Mem3. Also, that way I can write down something related to the calculation that I want to remember. With this calculator, I don't need that extra paper. Instead, I can write notes on the notepad on the right side of the calculator. That is such a neat feature! The calculator does all of the functions of other scientific calculators. The instruction booklet describes how to use the various features of the calculator. That is all pretty standard stuff. But in a compartment on the left side of the calculator is a plastic pen that lets you write notes on the notepad. To later erase the notepad, you click on the large black button on the upper right corner of the calculator. If you want to keep your note available for a longer time, there is a lock switch on the right side of the top of the calculator. I tried to take a picture of the lock switch, but I know it is pretty hard to see.My only complaint about this calculator is that the notepad is on the right side. As I am left-handed, I wish I could move it to the left side. But frankly, that is a minor issue. Overall, I really am pleased with the functionality of this calculator.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic calculator

In the days where we all have phones we don't really NEED dedicated calculators anymore, but it never hurts to have one on backup just in case, and this is a pretty great one. I love having a re-usable notepad on the side for helping me jot stuff down, honestly every calculator should have one of those.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice calculator.

I was intrigued by the notepad on this calculator. It does work, but it's not as vivid as shown in the photographs (although still very useable). Beyond that it is a basic scientific calculator, pretty standard for the type. The notepad does allow you to write down interim results, final tallies, etc. and can be a very useful accessory if you don't have pen/paper handy, if the results are sensitive and you don't have a shredder, or if you just want to save trees.

    Such a neat calculator

Bought it for my daughter for grade 7. She thought it was very cool how you can write your answers down on the side and erase them and lock them in. She was so happy with it.

    Convenient but thick

    H. · August 23, 2024

This calculator is housed in a bi-fold protective case. For this reason, it is significantly thicker other scientific calculators having similar footprint. Although the case effectively protects the keys and notepad, please note that it can be somewhat cumbersome to carry around. The notepad is good size for quick notes, and it is convenient that the dedicated pen is stored in the device. The calculator functions well and responds reasonably quickly. As the button layout is the same as that of Casio scientific calculators, it should be easy to use for those accustomed to Casio products. The case and buttons show some color inconsistencies, probably from the injection molding, and the feel was not so impressive. The product description photos suggest that this calculator is equipped with a full dot-matrix LCD, but it actually comes with a 10-digit 7-segment display combined with a 12-character display at the top.The price at the time of review was $29. It might be reasonable for a scientific calculator with LCD notepad, but this is more than twice of similar calculators like the Casio FX300.If the LCD notepad is not a significant advantage for you, it might be worth considering other options.
