The DogCheck Genetic Disease Tests are the most comprehensive laboratory-based screening tests available.
We offer two versions of the test:
DogCheck 4.0 screens for more than 320 inherited diseases, traits, coat colours and coat textures.
DogCheck 4.0xP includes Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis (Labrador Retriever)(HNPK) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Progressive Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd).
Please view the images for a full list of the genetic variants covered and to compare the two tests to see which is most suitable for you and your dog. You can select your chosen option above.
The results reports will provide one of three possible outcomes for each inherited disease tested - Clear, Carrier or At Risk.
The information provided in the test results will allow you to work with your veterinarian and other specialists to manage and improve the overall health of your dog. The test can also help you highlight potentially serious diseases or conditions that may need special attention.
The test is ideal for breeders who want to make sure their dogs are as healthy and as disease-free as possible. By understanding the genetic disease profile of your dogs, you can better address potential issues and manage their health. In addition, you can select partners for breeding on the basis of their genetic profile.
There is no minimum age and nursing puppies can be tested. They should be separated from the dam for about an hour before swabbing their cheeks. This ensures no milk will be in their mouths to possibly contaminate the sample and that we get the puppy’s DNA instead of the Mum’s DNA.
Results are issued within 3 weeks of receipt of samples at the laboratory.
Please note that this is not a breed test. Please see our other tests for breed tests.
