3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
The ingredients are pure (blanched organic almonds) and the jar size is substantial. The concentrate is rich and creamy and only needs a gentle stir before using. The aroma is pleasant as well. I bought this as a coffee creamer, and I read the product description carefully before purchasing. The label says add 2 tablespoons in coffee. However, as with all store-bought almond milk brands I've tried, there is separation similar to curdling, and specks and swirls float around. It just doesn't blend. I've tried putting the concentrate in first, adding a little coffee and stirring to temper the mixture before adding the rest of the coffee. Again, within seconds, the coffee and milk separated. I have also had two different coffee blends knowing some coffee has more acid than others. Didn't work. Some people may find a use for the product, so I don't want to be too harsh, just know in advance its limitations, and if you want to use it as a coffee creamer, it most likely won't work.
2.0 out of 5 stars Must have a new recipe
I have been ordering this milk for 2 years, recently it was in back order for a month. Finally got my shipment. Tastes different. I want the original back.
1.0 out of 5 stars Arrived and was leaking.
You can see in the image that the black strip is not ripped but the jar is leaking. I would love to try this product but there's no way I'm going to try it in this condition.
5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome but expensive
If you want pure, blanched almonds mashed up in a jar, whether it's called a butter, paste, or, as it is here, almond milk concentrate, it is going to cost you. But you will get an awesome product for your money, at least in the case of JOI's unsweetened almond milk concentrate. Since they don't add any oil, you don't have the extreme separation you will with products that have added palm oil. You also won't have palm oil in your product. While almond growing does take a ridiculous amount of water, palm oil is really bad for the planet. It's also not great for you. But almond oil is. Another thing you don't get here is anything that is not blanched organic almond. No sugar, no salt. This is great. The product is pure and you can taste it. The almond flavor is subtle but rich and very delicious. I, like most people, love salt and sugar. But I also appreciate pure flavors and know I don't need nearly as much salt and sugar as I consume. I need far less, in fact.Using this stuff has been great. We've used it as a spread (like almond butter, which it essentially is) and mixed it into oatmeal. It's super-smooth, stirs and spreads and mixes like a dream. I've eaten a little off a spoon and again, it is delicious. As for making almond milk, I tried that too. It works. I followed the suggestion of using a tablespoon of concentrate with a cup of milk. I was making a smoothie. It blended really easy in my Ninja blender. I tasted it and it tasted okay. It was now watered-down, unsweetened or salted almonds, so it didn't taste as good when pure. In the smoothie, I only noticed a pleasant almond flavor added to my usual mix. I normally use almond milk bought at the store ready to go. It has 1 gram of protein, no added sugar, and 190 mg of sodium per cup. It also has added preservatives. It's probably healthier than milk, but it's not really healthy. It's also about a third of the price of the concentrate with no added work involved and tastes a lot better to drink straight. BUT, if making a smoothie, it's not that much extra work to use the concentrate, and it adds real nutrients and no salt.I haven't tried the two tablespoons per cup of milk recommended for use in coffee because I drink my coffee black. I don't think it would be very good, honestly, in plain coffee but as part of a blended coffee drink it would probably work fine.Bottom line, if you can afford it, this stuff is awesome. Unfortunately, I really can't. You're paying for organic purity, no skins, smooth, easy blending, great almond flavor.
4.0 out of 5 stars Not cheaper than buying almond milk
I love the concept, but buying almond milk, even shelf stable ones, is still cheaper than this. This is also more work as you'll need to blend it yourself. If you try mixing the almond butter into water and shaking it, it won't do much. If you're using this in a smoothie, you can add in a handful of almonds to achieve the same thing. This requires putting into the fridge after opening and you should use it fairly quickly. The one advantage would be if you want to save space, then this tiny jar will save a lot of room in your fridge or shelves. For the taste itself, it's delicious. The best part is you can adjust the strength of the almond milk by adding more concentrate, but that means the cost per bottle will be more.
5.0 out of 5 stars Almond "butter"?
When I saw "condensed almond milk", I was intrigued to try. But opening up the package, it is obviously almond butter. Not that I am complaining, it is delicious. And yes, of course you can make almond milk of it if you blend with water. This is non-gmo, no additive stuff. So, it will separate on its own. And since water is not added, it is shelf stable. The taste is creamy rich, and you can also use it in other dishes, or even just as a spread.
