5.0 out of 5 stars Lives up to claims and expectations!
The first bit of good news is that it IS 4K, when that is selected or by default. I read a review of another dash cam that claimed 4K and it never went above 1080P, no matter the setting. I tested all three resolutions, downloaded the files, and opened in the appropriate video program that confirmed the numbers. Having said that, I really can't see any reason to go over 2K. Doing so will also make your SD card last longer. The whole setup was pretty straightforward, including obtaining and using the wifi enabled (why don't any of these cameras use bluetooth? Would be the perfect choice, no switching wifi AP's in your phone, Yes, I have wifi when on road trips via a hotspot) app. I had one email inquiry to customer service, answered reasonably promptly and well done. Besides what you expect, it comes with both suction cup and sticky tape mountings, and a short cord to the rear camera if you want to mount it to see the interior instead. The printed instruction booklet is English only (Thank you!), large, and extremely well done. Plenty of illustrations and warnings. One thing that could be confusing is their presumption that your cig lighter is live only when the engine is on. There are cars that are always on (like my current and last, two always on outlets) and cars that shut off with the ignition (like my previous last two.) So, YYMV as to powering things up or not. Logically, the parking cam functions can only run with power to the camera, so you need either a cig lighter that stays on, or the hard wire kit. The latter will shut off the camera when the car battery voltage drops to 11.7V, thus leaving enough to start your car.I did a test with both the main and rear cameras on. This camera has, in fact, two different 2K's. When you select 2K for the front camera, it is really "QHD" at 2560x1440 pixels. A very nice and functional 60% increase in surface area over standard 2K, 1920x1080 pixels. The rear camera always records in standard 2K. When it is connected, the camera records a file for each, and they are labeled F and R. Nice.I spent the better part of a day testing various options in order to find what I want. One weird thing that appears to be the way most or all dash cams are set up is that you can't just record continuously as one file until the SD card is filled. The default time is 1 minute, after which a new file is started, which results in hundreds of files for any length of operation. I set the default to 5 minutes, the maximum. Still too weird, especially if you want to make a travelogue. Of course, you can splice all your 5 minute vids into a long one with about any video editing program. NOTE THAT THERE IS NO AUTO SHUT OFF OPTION FOR WHEN THE CARD IS FULL! You will have to catch it and download content before that happens. All in all, a good purchase.G900 MEMORY & DATA USE1080p 1920X1080 =2MP 80MB/MIN 64GB: 13.3 HRS2k+/QHD 2560X1440 =3.7MP 100MB/MIN 64GB: 10.7 HRS4k 3840X2160 =8.3MP 200MB/MIN 64GB: 5.3 HRSFRONT AND REAR CAMERA, FRONT SET AT 2K FRONT = QHD, 2560X1440 85 MB/MIN REAR = REAL 2K 1920X1080 64 MB/MIN 159 MB/MIN TOTAL 64GB: 6.7 HRS
5.0 out of 5 stars Nice dash cam and great customer service!
It's a nice and simple to use dash cam. I thought it comes with voice control, but it's not. I know it's too much to ask for within this price range, but that would have been a good feature.I like it. It serves it's purpose pretty well. Only caveat I found, is the suction mount fell off once recently. May be because of the heat and humid weather. I believe it's common for all kind of air suction mounts. Anyways, when I informed their customer service about it, they sent me replacement suction mount. Thanks to Jason! Great customer service and nice product!
4.0 out of 5 stars Great deal, seemingly good quality, but could use improvement
As far as dashcams go, this is pretty standard fare. I won't go into highlighting all the goods, as if I don't mention it, you can assume it's fine. I bought this as a gift for family member but I have had experience with multiple types of dashcams myself. For the main power cord, it's USB-C. That's great. The problem is the 12 volt power connector is integrated with the cable which means it's all one piece. A better solution would be a 12 volt power plug with a USB type A connector, and then a USB type A cable to USB type-c cable to deliver power. For some cars that don't have multiple 12 volt power ports or USB ports, this occupies the entire 12 volt port. Fortunately since it's Type-C, I can easily swap out the whole power cable with a 15-watt rated 12 volt power plug, and a 10-ft USB type A to USB type-c cable. The rear camera, as far as I could see, did not have a software function to flip the image. Initially I installed the camera upside down. There was no indicator I saw as to which direction was correct. Fortunately, the adhesive did not set fully and I was able to readjust it. A pro here is the rear facing camera is adjustable easily, and is not the crappy kind in a lot of dash cams.Comes with a trim tool and extra parts which are helpful with installation. Comes with an extended warranty from the manufacturer. So far decent image quality. I was not able to test the Wi-Fi function and have yet to see actual footage, as the vehicle isn't mine. For the price, this is great overall. It's not perfect but completely livable.
