5.0 out of 5 stars Works well with knee highs or footies + other tips
After lumbar laminectomy, my surgeon said no bending at the waist for 3 months. My #1 tool that I use many times a day is the long handled grabber. This is my #2 useful tool. I use the grabber to get my compression knee highs, sit down on a firm chair. I put this device on a table or in my lap, and put the stocking over it as instructed, sliding leg part all the way over & down to the heel and toe part of the stocking. This is very important! The hardest part is getting the heel of the sock lined up straight in the back. Then I extend the handles on the side that were folded over, and lift my leg, point my toes, stick them into the stocking up to my heel, then lower the device and my leg to the floor, pushing my foot down while pulling the sock up as high I can unfurl it onto my hefty calf. lol. I pull it up with my hands the rest of the way to my knee and adjust it for straightness and comfort.I also use it with the zippered compression stockings, only partially zipping them about half way before sliding over the device to get my toes in before I remove it and zip it up to my knee.I 've also had good luck with putting footies over it and getting my toes in & pulling over my heel.No luck with getting shoes or slippers over my heels without aid from hubby or son. I stand backwards in front of them and bend my knee back with shoe on my toes and they pull them over my heel for me. Long shoe horn doesn't keep me from bending or twisting to get them on.I haven't found any of the "no bending over" slip on sneakers that fit my wide bunions and don't slip off the heels that don't cost over $100!#3 useful tool for not bending after using raised toilet seat with handles, is my own idea to effectively reach and clean my bottom. I use a lint roller with handle from Dollar Tree! I keep it in a zippered plastic bag, clipped on a clippy hanger, hanging from my TP roll spindle - always handy! I wrap several layers of TP around the sticky paper, extending it over the far end. I wipe in front first, gently rolling it back and forth till I feel dry. Then I stand up, and let the wet layers unfurl over the commode and tear them off at the first dry section. Then I remain standing to wipe my back side with it. Sometimes I add more layers bunched up on the end to do the job. Then I unfurl that into the toilet, and wrap a few wet baby wipes to the wand to finish till I'm clean. Then just peel off the top layer of the lint roller paper and toss in the trash, disinfect the plastic end with Lysol, and wash my hands. Then I put it back into the hanger bag. Hope this helps someone else!!
4.0 out of 5 stars Pros & Cons— ER doctor reviews
Pros: I have a nerve damaged left foot and ankle with “foot drop”. Using 20-30mmhg compression stockings there would be no way other than this device to get them on! Also I have found nothing better on the market to use. Cons: my leg has edema and my calf is swollen— so half way up I need to use my hands to pull up the stockings. There’s no “gentle” working of the device to get it past my mid calf (it’s actually painful). The handles are not only SHORT but flimsy! You’ve got to be able to bend over in order to get the stocking on. I’m certain one if not both handles will eventually break— especially at the hinge. Mine came with 2 right hand gloves. Luckily I have the hand strength to get the stockings on the plastic. Review the video before trying AND make sure you have the stocking foot facing the correct direction— before putting it over the base. A laughable error I made on my first attempt!! Again— I haven’t found anything better out there and I have tried several
5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Where have you been for Compression Socks?
My husband had a triple bypass surgery and it was tough putting on his compression socks. After searching on Bolo and reading the various reviews, I decided to buy this one! It is a 10/10 stars. So simple to slip the socks on the device. Husband just slips in foot and then I slowly guide it on his legs with the device and gloves. This is a must have!!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite post hip replacement device
My biggest worry was being able to put on my compression socks after hip surgery since I live alone. Although I had 2 sisters fly in from out of state to care for me, I didn't expect them to stay for more than a week. First of all the device didn't come with instructions and the Bolo video was quick with no detail. The first time I tried it with my sisters present was a disaster. The next day I searched on YouTube and found a great video by physical Therapist Bob and Brad. Although a different device, they said they could puit on both socks in less than 30 seconds and they did. This is how you do it: Sit down on the edge of your bed and put the base of the device between your legs near the knees. Take the toe end and raise it up to your head with the heal of the sock facing you. My compression socks have a blue rectangular portion that represents the heal. Now put the open large end over the half moon tube of the device and continue to pull the entire sock onto the half moon tube until the toe end reaches the top. Then press the toe end of the sock down into the tube with your hand until your knuckles line up with the top of the half moon tube. The next step is very important or the sock will be super tight over the tips of your toes. Pull up the sock that's compressed at the bottom of the half moon tube so that its equally distributed. Now slide your foot into the sock and pull up on the handles. You don't have to pull the sock with the handles all the way up your thigh. My calves are huge from body building so half way up my calf is more than enough. Then reach down and pull the sock up the rest of the way. That's it. Blessings to you. The Lord heals all who call upon Him.
A Great Helper!
Until my husband was prescribed compression socks I had no idea how hard they are to put on...it is a 2 person job for most people plus a lot of strength in the hands is required. This device has been a life saver: easy and quick to use and, best of all, my husband puts the socks on without my help. We are so happy for this device!
