5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised
Works as advertised. I had to remove an RCA component from a motherboard in order to replace it. I let the iron heat up for 5 minutes per instructions. It did smoke for a bit as explained on the tag. I set the suction trigger, placed the tip on the solder connection and the unit quickly melted the solder. I pushed the button and all solder was sucked into the reservoir, freeing the component from its connection to the motherboard. I removed 9 solder connections in this manner and it worked flawlessly. Recommend. Good value.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works better than the big ones much of the time.
I do electronic repair professionally. I've directly compared this unit to electric vacuum desoldering pumps that run 100s of $$. This unit will often outpull a vacuum pump, because the speed of the spring-loaded piston sucks in a lot of solder/air mix quickly. Having a hot iron on the connection while the air flows is an improvement over unheated Soldapult type devices, which are cheaper. In this case, you get what you pay for. Will I give up the vacuum desoldering station at work? No, because if you have a lot of connections to do, and/or don't want to clean out the tool as often, the big stuff is worth it. For smaller projects, though, this unit works great.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good enough for hobby use
It's kinda cheap, but I must admit it does a fine job of desoldering. The suction tube, that contains the spring and plunger, is plastic, which is a concern. The tip is held in by two machine screws, that fit poorly. One of them doesn't have a washer since it's a mm shorter than the other. But it does indeed work. If you used it every day, I can see it falling apart in a few months, but for occasional use, it's pretty good.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for desoldering
I should have purchased this years ago. I have used wick, suckers, and many other methods over the years but this unit works great for all my desoldering.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not very powerfull
I have to try several times before it takes enough tin from the point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice tool
Sure beats the two handed method I have done for years. Comes in real handy when you have a bunch of solder joints to desolder. Speeds up the job. Disassembly for cleaning works well too. Only issue I had was upon initial use the unit began smoking. I got around that by plugging it in near my kitchen stove and used the stove's hood fan to remove the smoke from my house. After about 5 minutes the smoke ceased.
