5.0 out of 5 stars Look great, work great, fairly easy install.
The media could not be loaded. TLDR: Look great, work great, fairly easy install. Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro are the way to go.Really glad I didn't pull the trigger on the first gen lights and waited for the Govee Outdoor Lights Pro. The 200' was perfect for my needs and I ended up using 196' and clipping off the last few lights. With the booster module it's great being able to power the entire thing from one end instead of having to do power injection or plug in at multiple places. The Pro version gives you options for extending, cutting and splicing that wasn't possible before. The splice units are super easy to use with Wago style toggle connections. The short and long extensions are great if you need to skip an area, say to go up to a second story. I couldn't find the exact contents for the 200' set anyplace, so here's what came in mine: 12 stands of lights; 4 each male and female splice connectors; 4 - 4' extension cables; 2 - 12' extension cables; power brick, control unit, signal booster (for 200' for kit only); lots of mounting clips and extra adhesive tabs. Really wanted a clean looking install so I mounted the power and control units inside an Orbit irrigation control box after running power to my install location. Also wanted to minimize clip use and bought some 3D printed mounting brackets that fit over the lights. They make the lights look slightly bulkier but I was able to limit clip use to turning corners or working around an obstacle. I spent a lot of time untwisting and flattening the cable to get it as flat as possible. Kind of a pain but the flat cable is what makes splicing possible for DIYers so I'm not complaining. The instructions say to use an automatic wire stripper for splicing. It's not clear if they were talking about the outer sheath or the three internal wires, but mine absolutely wouldn't work on the sheath. I had to very carefully cut that with a razor knife. All told it took some non-OSHA approved ladder shenanigans and two full days of work as a somewhat competent DIYer and I'm happy with the results. IMO the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro are the way to go unless you want to spend thousands on a pixel or puck system and learn Wled. The estimate I got from Jellyfish lights was 6k. While not inexpensive Govee has frequent sales and I got the 200' set for $560 and saw them for $480 on Prime Day. If you are new to Govee the app isn't perfect but they update and improve it frequently. There are plenty of lighting options that require only one click to get started. The app has close to 100 preset themes for holidays, seasons, etc. The video is the "Universe" theme, pics are warm and cool white respectively. The pro have dedicated warm and cool white leds that are great for general illumination. Using the app I created an automation so they come on with a color effect 30 minutes after sunset, change to warm white 30% brightness at 12am, then turn off 30 minutes before sunrise. The DIY function allows you to create any combination of colors and patterns you can think of. I've been using the new AI bot to create light scenes and it's kind of fun.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best outdoor lights to date
These may be expensive but the whole Govee line of lights are incredible. They connect easily, they pair with the app and all the incredible installed features in the app are fun. The size of these are not super bulky and the brightness is perfect and you can adjust brightness however you want. You have so many varieties with the Govee lights and they’re fun. They’re durable to keep on all year around and if one or two unstick, it comes with extra adhesives to attach the light back on. They set you up with everything you need and the app is easy to use with so many different settings and you can even make your own. I’ve boughten outdoor, I’ve boughten strip lights, the ones for your vehicle, the string lights. I’ve got a whole collection of Govee, that’s how much I love this brand.
5.0 out of 5 stars Really Adds to the Home!
I’d been on the fence with these for a while before finally ordering them, and I am so glad that I did! They look incredible, and I always love driving up to our house at night, especially during the holiday! The lights are bright and offer a ton of functionality! They took a little while to install, but overall it wasn’t too bad. My only gripe is that the adhesive isn’t great (see photos). To fix that I found a 3D model that I can print, and fasten each light with screws and it also, in my opinion, looks much nicer! The price is a little high, but the way I see it is that it’ll be something we use every day, year round for the foreseeable future, so in my eyes, they are more than worth it, especially if you have little ones!
1.0 out of 5 stars Nonexistent Quality Control and Support
The media could not be loaded. Ordered the 200ft kit on 2nd of December and it took 4 days longer to get here than the Govee Curtains I ordered. Govee doesn't not supply enough clips to clip every LED in a string only 5 clips which is half of what you need. For the cost you'd think they would give you enough. The LEDs have 3M adhesive on the back of them, but that is not a permanent solution for so called permanent outdoor lights. You MUST prep the surface for the adhesive, use rubbing alcohol they will not stick well to an unprepped surface! So you will need to buy more clips. The clips they do supply have adhesive on them to and screws that are threaded for metal and not plastic soffits. If you you need to splice any of the light strings, which for most this will need to be done at least once if not more, you will need to also buy a wire stripper ( $20 ) unless you are really good at splitting and stripping wires out of an unsegmented line. Why Govee didn't use a segmented wire insulation on the Pro version like they did on non-pro ones is beyond me. The positive and negative wires are 22 gauge and the signal wire is 24 gauge. The instructions are a joke and barebones. You'll be much better served going on YT and watching a bunch of videos to learn about the limitations and what configurations work or don't work. For example if you need to make a 'Y' split. There is no explanation of what the different modes of the light on the power adapter mean.It took me about 5hrs to put up 10 of the 12 strings that I needed along with using 2 of the 12ft extensions and 2 of the 4ft extensions that came in the kit. You currently can not buy extra parts or items to these kits. I would recommend using a cherry picker if you have two story house or a lot apexes to do. I got the lights up and working with Govee Home app right away and tested out some different light patterns before settling on one...About 3hrs of running they just shut off. I went out and checked the controller and power adapter and the PA green light was not solid it was blinking green. Tried to connect to the controller via the Govee Home app and it would not connect and just failed (I know it wasn't an app problem or Wi-Fi one because I could connect to my Govee Curtains still). I unplugged both the PA and controller from the outside strings and brought them in the house. Plugging the PA and controller into just one string of left over known good lights and would still not work. I then unplugged the PA from the controller and the PA went solid green like it should be, plugging it back in to controller it went blinking again. Leaving both unplugged for 15 minutes did not fix issue, neither did trying to hold in the button on the controller to reset it. So, in less time than it took for me to install all the lights the controller had failed!Contacting Govee support was game of tag trying to get them to send out a new part. First representative I contacted via their support email wanted video of the issue which I provided then said they would send a replacement only for me to never hear back from him. I then contacted Govee through their 'rapid response' support via the Govee Home app and had to go through the same ropes with this rep. and then they said they would replace the controller. I told them I wanted it sent overnight or 2 day air because it wouldn't get here in time for holidays if not. Of course they sent it cheap regular DHL freight. Wasted 5 days playing tag with them to send me a new one!In short I regret buying this overpriced & poorly made product from a company with just as bad customer service. Would not buy this again and suggest looking for another brand for others. The only thing Govee can get 1/2 a star for is the app, I found it easy to use but others have left reviews of how they dislike it ( shrug ).(NOTE: The video needed to be taken with lights off in the room so to see the PA blinking green it is so faint.)UPDATE: Got tracking info from DHL and the replacement controller is coming from China. This means Govee has NO REPLACEMENT PARTS in the US!
Ensure the area you plan on sticking the lights.
Love the lights so far. They look awesome!! I used some brake cleaner to clean the surfaces prior to sticking. Also used #6 square head screws instead of the ones supplied. Made installing them so much easier. I highly recommend them. Hopefully they last a long time given the price. Seem to be high quality, even down to the boxes they came in.
Looks absolutely amazing
Software is very user friendly and easy to setup. The 3M tape works perfectly and instructions are very clear!Great brightness and amazing look with the preset settings.
Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro
The media could not be loaded. Very nice kit that is well put together. Lights are amazing with endless possibilities. We used 150’ and did not have to splice at all.If installing at near frost temperatures make sure you use a hair dryer to warm the double sided tape and soffit or the lights will not stick. The small cable clips that come with the kit work but are quite small and do work but there are better options for additional costs. 3D printed light mounts that hold the light and cable would be the easiest, we used 1/4” nylon cable clamps and placed one on either side of each light with 3/4” long Tek screws.Overall very happy and would highly recommend.
Looks great... buuut. edit; they sent me replacment parts.
The media could not be loaded. Looking great, but my 12ft extention quit working 3 days after I bought it and set it up.Don't want to return the entire thing for a 10 dollar cord, also easy for me to do it as I'm mechanically inclined and not afraid of heights. Edit: they sent me new extentions, which I ended up just using a 30ft 18guage to hide all the cords anyways, and only used one new one for the relay in it.also I used clip in 3D printed frames so super easy to install without them falling off, should be included for the price of this unit.I'll get the cord figured out, as I'll likely end up making my own extention with 18 guage wire and the included connectors, I'll swap out the grommets on the connectors to make it work.Overall not bad, but kinda a PITA especially if you don't do much electrical work.
Worth the time and money
The media could not be loaded. I was a bit nervous about installing the Govee Outdoor Permanent Lights Pro due to the height involved, so I hired a professional company to handle the setup. They did an excellent job, and it turned out my neighbors also chose to install these lights! Once they were up and running, I was truly impressed with how incredible they look at night. The lights are vibrant, and they create a beautiful ambiance around my home. However, there’s some room for improvement with the Govee home app. It can be a bit complicated and isn’t as intuitive as I’d hoped. But overall, these lights have exceeded my expectations, and I’m thrilled with the end result!
