5.0 out of 5 stars Best book for beginners who wish to create real-to-life drawings
I have a shelf full of drawing books, and many say they are for beginners—this book actually is. It truly offers step-by-step instructions with plenty of examples and explanations for learning how to create real-to-life drawings. One feature I like most is the focus on basic techniques such as shading, constructing basic shapes, and creating 3D shapes. All books discuss these key principles, but How to Draw and Think Like a True Artist gives extensive examples and practice exercises that are lacking in every other beginner drawing book I own. The 30-day format is a good way of organizing the material to be learned, but it improves on other books by making the drawing examples progressively more difficult—going from simple shapes to portraits. Here again, How to Draw and Think Like a True Artist is a major improvement over other beginner books I own because the how-to examples extend over multiple pages with detailed steps, not just a few skeleton sketches and then the final polished product. The author has put a lot of thought into creating the examples and explaining the techniques used for creating the final realistic drawing. Out of the 29 drawing books I’ve bought, these are the books I have found to be most helpful so far: For basic instruction1. How to Draw and Think Like a True Artist— Gives a daily routine that goes from simple to complex. This has been the best book to get me drawing daily and making steady progress. I spend more than one day on each lesson, though. For practice1. Draw Like an Artist: 100 Flowers and Plants —has plenty of practice drawings to try.2. The Artist’s Complete Book of Drawing Projects, Step-by-Step—steps are not nearly as detailed as they are in How to Draw and Think Like a True Artist, but the projects are decent. The projects in this book are best attempted after finishing the 30 days of How to Draw and Think Like a True Artist.
5.0 out of 5 stars Consider This A Workbook
i have over 900 art books so consider myself as having a bit of knowledge on this topic. This seems to be one of those Bolo print on demand type of books which I generally find not very useful. It doesn't have the highest quality of printing, paper or binding, but the content is great. This is not a book to just read for information. It is set up as course with 30 days worth of exercises. I just started using the book but I am finding it very useful. I don't like to write in my books but this is really a workbook and exercises are included in the book that you need to complete. If you are loking for a hand's on book, this is a great one! I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent examples
Purchased this for my Artsy Granddaughter. She is into all forms of art but especially loves to draw. I know she will love this book. It is filled with so much information.
5.0 out of 5 stars Flipped through it, started book already, really like it.
I am not new to drawing, but I wanted something to help me build skills, and often that means going back to basics. This book starts with basics like drawing lines overhand and underhand, basic shapes, and various pencil strokes. It builds in each chapter, is set up to be used daily, but I will use it most days and am more concerned with having a methodical way to review and learn more to aid in drawing. This book is very nice and just what I wanted.
