5.0 out of 5 stars Wow
I have struggled for the last several months with the similarly priced Chef iQ. The first issue I ran into was a constantly sounding, very loud alarm that one or both of the probes was overheating, regardless of the ambient temperature reading always being below the maximum. Then, I would have intermittent connectivity issues with the probes until finally one stopped connecting all together. The TempSpike has given me none of these issues. It worked perfectly out of the box and hasn't failed me yet. I have been a software developer for the last 30 years and love the TempSpike's app. The UI clearly shows all the important information and is very clean and is easy to use. I especially appreciate being able to record the temperatures and view a graph to determine when my brisket has stalled. Finally, the probes are short and relatively thin, making it much easier to insert them properly to the center of the meat while also embedding the entire metal part, which is required.I was considering the Meater+ with two probes, however, it was over three times what I paid for the TempSpike and with no additional value.I couldn't be happier. I love it when a good company makes a great product at a terrific price. Very well done (pun intended) ThermoPro!
5.0 out of 5 stars Apple Watch app!
This is a nifty addition to our barbecuing and general cooking toolkit. There's a single probe, but it independently measures both internal and external temperatures of the meat. You insert it fully, and then Bob's your proverbial uncle. It "Just Works" to communicate with the bright-orange (hard to lose!) base station--even with your barbecue lid closed--which in turn communicates to your phone (and thereby to the Apple Watch if you're luck enough to have one!).The TempSpike app is easy to use, maybe could be a little slicker in terms of design and discoverability, but its functionality is excellent. Temperature readings seem quite accurate, and our food has come out perfect each time. You can set temperature alarms, both low and high, for both the probe's sensors. There's a graphing function (which you must start when you want it) that lets you see trends. There are multiple "profiles" built-in that set target temperatures for you. There are warnings that if you foil-wrap your food for cooking, the probe's ceramic handle must poke out of the foil so the probe and base station can talk. That makes me curious how a layer of foil will compromise connectivity whereas the barbecue's lid will not, but whatever. The base station charges via USB-C, and rapidly. The probe resides in clips in a dedicated receptacle in the base station. The clips charge the probe. State-of-charge for both the base station and probe are displayed on the base station's LCD display as tiny icons.Having nice large temperatures displayed at a glance on the base station is really nice. The base station has a magnet to attach to any (not-hot!) surface. All in all, I'm really happy with this little device.
5.0 out of 5 stars ThermoPro TempSpike Plus
Researched many wireless thermometers for use in grilling, but mostly for use in my smoker. I've had a wired system for many years, it served the purpose just fine, but I thought it was time to upgrade to wireless.Liked what I saw and read about the ThermoPro TempSpike Plus. Made the purchase, the set up was easy, connecting to my phone went very well, no problems. The system works great. I really like that the probes monitor both internal and external/ambient temps without the need for an extra probe for the external/ambient temp. I can't verify the 600 foot range because I really never venture that far away from my smoker, but it's good to know it's there if needed. And the auto-reconnect if Wifi is lost (like going past the 600ft range) looks like it would be a good feature, based on what I've read about other systems and their lack of that feature.I highly recommend this TempSpike system from ThermoPro.
5.0 out of 5 stars Oh man! You need this!!!
This gadget is one of my fave’s!! The Bluetooth range could be a little better, but that is my only complaint. It has great quality, appearance, easy to use, accurate, performs well and makes sure the meat does not dry out.
4.0 out of 5 stars Update: App can use work & ambient temp off
Update: Increasing to 4 stars, the customer service team reached out and replaced the unit, I tested it on my last cook and the ambient temperature was correct. High marks to the customer service team, they stepped up!Original review: I was intrigued by the smaller size of the probes and that it came with 2 probes. Unfortunately, I found that the app was not very feature rich compared to the Meater plus I already owned. Ambient temp reading was 20 degrees off. Also, the range was not what they advertised… yes, there are many factors impacting range, but again not any better than what I already had.
5.0 out of 5 stars For those meats that have to be cooked longer on the smoker/grill use this!
I was on a quest to learn to cook Texas style brisket and beef ribs. I would follow instructions yet always cook the meat too long when using an instant read thermometer. Finally my husband commented the world made Bluetooth connect thermometer probes. The first time I used this device on a brisket. Instant success. It notified me immediately when the brisket reached the temp I set. Perfectly done. Same for beef ribs. The tenderness! One needs to plug in the device to recharge the probe and receiver but that is easily done!! This is perfect.
