My youngest child asked for a science experiment kit for birthday. We decided to give this one a try.So far it has been quite successful, it has kept my 7 years old entertained. She did a slight mistake setting up the skeleton, but it was not because it was defective, she locked it the opposite way.it is appropriate for young ones

4.0 out of 5 stars Language issues

This kit is better than many, especially at the price, but definitely has its drawbacks. The language use is not what I would describe as native, and that's a problem when you're talking about educational materials of any kind. I haven't found any instances where it's a real issue of clarity, but again, anytime kids are reading, they're absorbing language, so it's absolutely not okay to have educational materials demonstrating poor language skills of any kind. I will say it's nowhere near as bad as it could be, but you can definitely tell it's going to be awkward within the first couple of pages.Language aside, I particularly like the fact that there are (at least in some cases) explanations of why these things work. For example, the magic sand is used in a couple of experiments and then in the final experiment, you learn (by destroying it, fair warning - well, converting it to regular sand anyway) why it acts magical. The explanations are FAR, far less than I'd like to see, so you'll want to do these with your kids and maybe do some extra reading on why x does y instead of z and that sort of thing. The kit includes most things that you'll need, including eye protection - which is a big deal. Kids should learn right from the start that protective equipment is not optional. The experiments in this little box may be relatively benign, but one day (ideally) your little scientist will grow into a bigger scientist - if not professionally, in a high school lab, maybe, where the chemicals require more care and respect and proper use of protective equipment could well prevent injury. There are plenty of things that aren't included, but they're generally things that you'll have laying around the house - water, cooking oil, sugar, vinegar, and that sort of thing. This would probably be a five-star item minus the language issues, and I'm not one to hand out five stars. The language problems are, well, problematic. Folks who produce educational materials absolutely need to pay whatever it takes to get native-level translations (not just in English, in any language in which they produce materials).

This box of fun science experiments is such a value not only for the money but just for the knowledge you get from all the different things you learn. It is very entertaining and fun and will give your kids a lot of different activities to do. Some of them might require a parent to help but for the most part they can do them themselves. This is an absolute must for anybody that has kids.#FoundItOnBolo

4.0 out of 5 stars Most experiments require items not included

    R. · January 18, 2024

As my title says, most experiments in this book require extras that do not come in the kit. With a lot of them, the extra items are typical household things, like water, or oil, etc, but there are some that require extras such as needing a lemon for a couple of them. The set does come with enough experiments to enjoy for a couple of hours, but, the ingredients are mostly single use, so the experiments you can do, could be done in an afternoon if your kids wanted to. The great thing about this, is the book does have a ton of simple and fun things to do, and many would require little more than stuff most people own already, so the book is the best part in my personal opinion. It is neat that it comes with goggles and beakers, and test tubes, as my 8 yr old loved feeling like a real scientist while we made the crystal. He enjoyed the experience greatly. It's a fun novelty gift and easy to do many of the things in the book. The only real issue I have with this is there are protective goggles, but no gloves or an apron. The crystal powder says not to get it in your eyes or nose, and it did splash a bit while doing, so though the goggles were great, the solution did get on hands, and in turn, on skin like the face. It did not burn or irritate the skin, but, with warnings on that, as a parent, I felt that gloves would be important for the experiments that have warnings like that. An apron would be nice too, but I do not feel as strongly about that, as I do gloves. Regardless, it is exactly as pictured, and makes a great little activity for cold winter months, where you spend a lot more time inside. My 8 yr old could do most of these on his own, without help, and he loved doing the couple we chose to do. All in all, I feel this is a decent novelty toy, and could be something a lot of kids love, my own included.
