5.0 out of 5 stars A solid reliable laptop
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I have owned many Dell computers in my lifetime and this one is a solid performer for gaming and everyday usage. Its only weakness is that the audio port seems to be a dust magnet and has to be blown out regularly to maintain a connection to an external speaker or headphone. I got tired of blasting it with a can of compressed air so I just use Bluetooth for external sound with it now.
5.0 out of 5 stars Es lo que esperaba
1.0 out of 5 stars Endless problems
Have had numerous serious issues with this laptop since I bought it. Every windows update breaks something else in the software. The Alienware command center app is a RAM hog. Playing WoW with discord open and the Alienware system monitor overlay was using 15 GB of RAM. The "Gaming mode" button that turns on turbo performance is also reportedly responsible for frying people's CPUs. I think mine is a victim of that as well. The PC overheats without the turbo mode on because the fans hardly work in normal performance mode. Mine likes to shut off randomly without warning or errors. I first thought it was overheating but it does it sometimes within minutes of being turned on for the first time in a day.Today, it shut off twice so I pulled the cover to check the battery connection. After unplugging the battery and plugging it back in, the PC would not turn on for about 30 minutes at all. It also now will not turn on unless it's plugged in, regardless of the battery charge, which remains at 81% and healthy according to the BIOS.Every update of windows or audio drivers changes the settings and defaults of my headphones to something else. There's are 3 locations of settings to choose which audio hardware you are using, and they all get swapped around. Having to dig through each one to figure out why my mic stops working for example, is annoying. These issues are far beyond my ability and desire to fix. In short, this has been the most problematic PC I've ever had the displeasure of using. And at $1700 it's laughably bad. A "Gaming PC" that overheats at idle while the screen is in sleep mode is just stupid.
4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Laptop for the price, Low ram, Lots of drivers to update
Bought this laptop for work purposes with a docking station. Something more convenient to transfer data from the office to the house and keep working on the same set up. The screen looks beautiful compared to my older model 1080p and especially wonderful on my samsung monitors. Set up was easy and simple however making sure each of the we're drivers updated was a test of patience. Because of the dual graphics cards and the auto detect functions for activities you see a lot of activity in the background.Immediately uninstalled mcaffee and seen a considerable improvement in the computer, obviously using other security programs. Generally have 4 screens going with multiple applications and haven't seen any overall problems. Crashed the computer on a couple triple A high end games trying out the highest settings and started finding the limitations of the ram. Definitely purchase a cooling board because this unit gets hot.overall id give it a 4 out of 5 due to needing a bit more ram for those high end games at ultra settings.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works fine.
No complaints after 6 months or so. Thanks. I bought stock in the company as I remembered all the Dell machines I've had that never had a problem besides growing obsolete.
5.0 out of 5 stars Puchased as a gift for a college student
Our college student loves this because homework can be finished and games can be played on this laptop. Used for drafting-tech classes.Note: It's been a challenge finding a reasonably priced, protective laptop backpack for the device's size. We ordered one (18"+ H) from Land's End. I'll write more once we receive the backpack.
3.0 out of 5 stars Ok computer
Update: i go the replacement and it does NOT have the line on the screen. laptop runs games well at 1080p, which is what i was hoping for. only issue is that the laptop acts weird on battery. i was playing eldin ring and it ran fine for a while, but then just started running at 1-2 fps. alt+tab tooks a while to work and so did the windows button. first time i had to hard shut down. when it happened again i was able to close the game and the desktop ran fine after that. really weird. may have been over heating or something. i was playing it in the car. never got any notifications about the computer over heating though.poor quality control and weirdness on battery. It'll run things fine on power and if you can get one without the line on the screen. Definitely good for under $1000. The one i got is defective. It has a line on the screen. Updated bios, drivers, used ddu, booted to external media. Persisted. Sending back and ordered another one. Will update if that replacement is not defective.
Potent but runs hot
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Great laptop so far. Upgraded to 64gb ram and installed a WD black 4TB for my primary and using the 1TB for storage. Upgrading was easy, which is nice for a laptop.I typically run CAD/CAM programs, which this runs with ease. Computing toolpaths is fairly quick for a laptop. OS loads quickly, programs load quickly. She does get hot though and like others are saying - the power brick weights almost as much as the laptop. So this is more of a desktop alternative than a portable computer. And do a fresh OS install to clear out all the Dell bloatware and minimize software issues.Buy it when its on sale - 1800cad was a fair price.
Great performance NEEDS CLEANING
I've been using it for months, It's given me a great deal of performance for the price, running most games at 120 fps comfortably, and hasn't given me any issues in coding. The screen has great colors, it's really smooth. Ram can be an issue, but you can always just slap another stick in there. All these points are great except that IT COLLECTS ALOT of dust, and it warms up a lot and you can see the dust that it accumulated in the vents from the outside. Cleaning can be quite tricky but is doable, considering it must be done often it is annoying. The RGB is mediocre at best, as it doesn't seep through the key caps bright enough, and you don't have many customization options, and the program by alien ware is ok. About the battery, I'd give it 2 stars if this wasn't a gaming laptop, nowadays you can find laptops that last 10 hours, this one can last around 5 if you really push it to save battery, which is good enough for my situation in college. Overall for what it is, and to whom it seems to appeal to it's a decent deal.
Garbage, don’t buy it
The worst laptop I’ve owned. Returning it.• Constant blue screens, especially when playing Battlefield 2042. Random restarts mid-game make it impossible to enjoy.• Cheap, low-quality packaging that didn’t feel protective at all. For the price, I expected better.• Bulky power supply in a form of a brick 1/4th the size of the laptop itself.• Crashes, overheating, and restarts ruin the gaming part, definitely not worth the price.
Heat
Heats up fast if your playing high graphic game would recommend getting a laptop cooling fan to go underneath
Works as expected - good value for price
Upgraded to 24G RAM (had 16+8 on hand) and works well for playing games on STEAM with Discord in the background and using a USB connected control. Can hear the fans kick in but works wells. The charger is quite bulky so I would not recommend this as a commuting laptop.
