This review is for, “TAJ Ajwain Seeds | Whole Carom Seeds | Bishop Seeds | 16-Ounce (454g)”.I enjoy trying new recipes and new spices, this is my first time ordering Ajwain seeds. It did take me quite some time to find a recipe that uses them, that didn’t also call for other traditional Indian spices that I do not have on hand. I did finally find a recipe for Ajwain Burg and enjoyed the flavor.These seeds have a fragrance that reminds me of thyme, oregano and fennel seed. When trying directly, they were very easy to chew. The flavor was difficult for me to describe in full, but what was prominent to me was an earthy, minty flavor with a little bitterness. These seeds were very fragrant and clearly very fresh.The bag they come in is very basic, probably to reduce costs. The price seems very reasonable, so I’m fine with the packaging, but be prepared to transfer them to your own container(s). I’ve had the opportunity to try two products from TAJ Gourmet Foods, both have been very fresh and I would absolutely purchase from this seller.

These ajwain seeds are perfect for adding flavor to several Indian dishes. The seeds are well packaged without extra dust or fluff. The bag is large but not resealable so I transferred it to a plastic cannister. Flavor and quality is what I was expecting from these seeds and they match what I order from our specialty store at a much lower price.

I have never had carom/Ajwain before, so I can't officially tell you if this is fresh or an good example of the product, although I strongly suspect it is. However, I can tell you that it certainly smells fresh, and I've never quite tasted anything like it. It starts out like a spicy oregano-esque flavor with overtones of pepper, is hot on the sides of your tongue, and then fades to a mint fennel menthol that leaves the tip of the tongue numb. That's the best as I can describe it! It is unusual, compelling, unsubtle – very unsubtle, this is not something you use a lot of – and intriguing. The seeds look like cumin seed, and I thought that was what it was going to taste like, but not even close. The seeds are lightly crushed. Please see pictures. Anything this strongly flavored will (and does) have traditional purposes; please do research in order to make sure this is a good choice for you. And the bag does not reseal, so plan to have a large zippy bag on hand, which brings up a last point... There's an awful lot of this and spices do tend to fade with age. Whether this one does or not I don't know, but common sense says it will. It might be an interesting thing to distribute in little jars and share with your friends in order to maximize the use of the entire bag in a timely fashion. Then when they come up with amazing recipes you can both take minor credit AND be invited over for dinner.

Taj is one of my trusted brand for Indian groceries. This Ajwain Seeds in a 16 oz resealable pack. 1 lb for the price of $9.99 is pretty reasonable. These are aromatic, fresh and crunchy. I usually roast them and make them into fine powder and use it in my Curry. The resealable bag made it easier and user friendly. The ingredients is 100% Ajwain Seeds and it is what it looks like to be. It is a product of India. Goes great with any Indian dishes

These TAJ Ajwain Seeds Whole Carom Seeds are great, I never really used myself for cooking but I have tasted them in Indian cuisine & always loved the taste they deliver, I will be using for Indian cuisine myself, they smell amazing, great value!

I made Ajwain Honey Water with this - I added 1 tsp of honey, 2 teaspoons of ajwain seeds and then boiled it with 1 liter of water and left it overnight. I drank the Ajwain honey water throughout the day. It tasted just like it smelled, very powerful aromas.

While I like that you get a lot of carom seeds in this package. I was disappointed by how bitter these were compared to other brands I have purchased. The bitterness was so intense I had to triple my recipe in the other ingredients to try to try to dilute the taste and even added sugar. The distinctive spicy carom flavor from the seeds was minimal.
