5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect For Heating Up Stubborn Exhaust Manifold Hardware!
As is typical given my bad luck, the oil pressure sensor suddenly failed in my car while driving home, and unbeknownst to me at the time, it leaked out most of the engine oil like a fountain. This, in turn, took out the timing set, resulting in bent valves. In order to get the head off for rebuild, I would have to remove the exhaust manifold. Unfortunately, as is commonplace, all the manifold nuts and studs were very heavily rusted. I usually only have propane on hand, but propane does not produce enough heat to break the nuts loose. Do you know what does produce enough heat? MAP gas. Fortunately for me, the timing could not have been better, as I came across this MAP gas in my feed. A couple of days later, I had two cylinders of MAP gas at my disposal. The fact that I now have two cylinders on hand means I will be set for quite a while. Also, I have to say, this MAP gas performed exceptionally well for me. Utilizing this MAP gas, I was able to quickly and easily heat the manifold bolts to the point where they were glowing red, which is what made it possible for me to even remove them. Thanks to this MAP gas, I was able to move forward with my project, and for that, I am thankful. I would definitely recommend this product.
4.0 out of 5 stars Works fine
Great MAPP substitute; works fine. The only criticism I have is that the cylinders arrived wrapped in new USPS shipping envelopes and placed in a box, which is an illegal use of these envelopes that US taxpayers pay for. It would be different if they were just recycled, used envelopes, but they're new. The legal use of these envelopes would be to ship something in them and pay the appropriate USPS postage. I've never seen a legitimate business do this.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with my heads!
The tanks seem to be as good as they can be. The threading gave me no issues with my torches, it was smooth and buttery on the both. Pressure has been steady and consistent too. These get hot, of course, just a bit more than regular propane so it helps with specific tasks. I miss the original mapp and it's superior heat, but it's been gone for decades now and isn't coming back. That makes this the next best gas that works for standard torch heads like mine(see images). Besides, I'm not into trying anything that requires mixing multiple tanks of different gasses for more heat. That's too complicated and these are the easy plug and play hook up, plus I had no issues getting glass to go molten with it.The flame is clean, blue and mostly keeps its uniform shape when held sideways, etc. I don't use it on everything, just on certain projects that need the power boost, so I do ration it more than my regular propane. No issues so far though, and for that I recommend. Thank you.
4.0 out of 5 stars Burns hotter than standard propane but not much
Map-Pro gas burns at 3730F versus standard propane which burns at 3600F which is very similar to Mapp gas but not quite the same because the output BTU during combustion is lower than Mapp gas. I don't have a thermostat that can measure the flame temperature but the gas cylinder fitted my torch gun that I used to use with Mapp gas before its discontinuance. It lights without any more effort than propane gas and it fits in the same belt holder that my torch had for Mapp gas.
5.0 out of 5 stars Burns Well
This propane seems to have a strong flame. It connects to my torch easily. The cylinder feels solid. Good price.
4.0 out of 5 stars About 14% less expensive than Bernzomatic propylene cylinders. Some labeling discrepancies.
The Bolo listing states these two Sondiko yellow cylinders each contain 14.1 ounces of MAP-Pro (Propylene) gas, the same as yellow cylinders from Bernzomatic and other vendors. However, the cylinders themselves don't indicate what they contain other than having 16.1 ounces of "Modern Substitute for MAPP" from "Sondiok." Because the vendor can't even get their own name right on their product label, I am guessing that the 16.1 ounces printed on the label is a typo and these cylinders only contain the 14.1 ounces that the Bolo listing says they do.The cylinders weigh 31 ounces new. The cylinders worked fine with a standard Bernzomatic propane torch and the fuel appears to burn cleanly. Because propylene burns hotter than propane, you should be sure your torch is compatible with it.I've never heard of Sondiko/Sondiok, but their web page shows that they sell butane and propane fueled cooking torches for browning foods and have been in business since 1991. This propylene cylinder is a new product for them. I couldn't find it or any propylene torches on their current website. The current price of thirty seven dollars is 14% less than a comparable two-pack of MAP-Pro cylinders from Bernzomatic. If they really do contain 16.1 ounces, they are an even better deal.
5.0 out of 5 stars Burns great!
Compared it to the propane I had and it makes a considerably stronger flame... This is propylene which is a pretty common substitute for MAPP (which is no longer manufactured) but as a step up from propane in terms of flame temperature. No problems connecting to my torch and lit right up. Cylinder feels good and full and was well protected in shipping.
4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonably Priced Alternative to the Name Brands
This review is for the Sondiko MAP-Pro Standard Propane Fuel CylinderOverall: 4 StarsThese gas cylinders are priced about the same as their competitors, what they claim sets them apart is the amount and quality of their fuel. I don't have any quantitative way of testing their quality claim, and I'm not convinced about the volume of gas they're claiming either. But when I tried them out with a new, high quality torch, I found the gas to burn cleanly without as much odor as I have smelled with some other gas cylinders. None of that is quantitative, but I'll know more as I continue to use them.
