5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for
This survival bar is exactly what I was looking for to put in my "get home bag" in my car. Regular food bars don't last long and these have a five year expiration date.I ate one for dinner. It is edible, but also very thirst-provoking. I keep water in my bag as well, so that's fine. It was crumbly, but that's not a problem. I felt fine and was not hungry for 12 hours until breakfast, so it lasted a good long time.I don't understand the negative comments about the taste. It's a bit too sweet and salty for me, but it's a survival bar, not a gourmet meal!- It's cheap- It's edible- Five years until expiration- I ate one for dinner and was not hungry at all for 12 hours.- Perfect for a SHTF kit.Five stars. It does EXACTLY what I need it to do.
5.0 out of 5 stars A survival bar that tastes good
It tastes like a homemade sugar cookie and it doesn't make you thirsty. Well worth the money.
4.0 out of 5 stars Survival dessert
These Lemon Shortbread Bars from Roadhouse Provisions are very large bars when comparing the size to most candy bars or granola bars. They are 410 calories per bar and very tightly vacuum sealed yet the bars are not crushed. They have full dimensional sharp corners and edges. ( see photos )The flavor of the bars is a cross between a Lora Dune and Sandie without the Pecans the texture is not as good but, knowing that foods that last for survival, don’t have much if any fat in them, the texture is somewhat crumbly and sandy. For the sake of comparison, My husband had expected eating survival food to give me a notable amount of gas or stomach ache ... .since he has eaten many MRE’s and plenty of food that was made for survival. Survival foods are typically high calories / high carbs / protein / and extremely long shelf life. I’m glad to report, I ate half of this bar as a dessert after dinner and that I had no negative effects. Nothing noted in the first hour or two and no negative effects within 48 hours after eating it,The flavor is good, the price for a basic snack bar is high at around $4 per bar. As a survival food ( as intended ) it is a great value.I hope my thoughts and photos help.
2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible
I wanted to have these available as hurricane season ramps up. Unfortunately, these powdery, grainy, poor-tasting bars are so awful that I'd rather starve than consume them. I might think differently on day five of a power outage but they're definitely not something to look forward to.
3.0 out of 5 stars Calorie dense, but too sweet for me
It is a good source of food for emergency. Contains about 29gram sugar and 419 calories. Calorie dense enough to survive on them 2 a day. However I did not like the taste. The butter flavor is there but too sweet. Almost like you are chewing on sugar.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great product
Great product
5.0 out of 5 stars Flavor
They are great tasting
3.0 out of 5 stars They taste better than their competition, but that's all these have going for them
I hope I don't incur the wrath of Chuck Norris with this review, but I have to be honest and I'm really not impressed. I'll let the bullet points speak for themselves. The Good: * The flavor, which is by far the best thing about these bars. True to the description, they are a buttery, lemon shortbread cookie flavor that is actually quite good. They beat Mainstay and Datrex bars hands down * They are packed FAR more robustly than the competition that I have seen, used and yes had in a go bagThe Meh: * Each bar is huge, but only 410 kcal (calories for the rest of us)The Bad: * Each bar is HUGE but only 410 calories (yes, I'm repeating myself). This is important because you need to know what you are getting and that will determine how you use it, especially since * The cost per calorie is almost twice that of the competition, and only comes with 2460 calories in this package (2x 410 cal) * These taste as good as they do because they have literally twice the sugar of the competition. To me, that's not good or meh, that's bad. In an emergency, while you may need a quick pick-me-up, you do not need a sugar crash after eating your survival rationsThe Verdict:I can't recommend these, too many things wrong with them. From the cost (the value is just not there) to the nutrition information, these are not a good buy.I get the gimmick (Roundhouse kick, Chuck Norris...I really do get it), and I'm not anti Chuck Norris...or at least I don't think I am, but these are preying on the uninformed and generally slick advertising. They are getting 3 stars for the flavor and really good, solid packaging, and that's it.
