5.0 out of 5 stars Daughter is happy
Daughter is very happy that she can have drinks in her room cold from this refrigerator
4.0 out of 5 stars 47 is the coldest drink temperature I got
This is definitely only for drinks/skincare. The coldest drink temperature I received using a meat thermometer was 47 degrees. You cannot put food/opened drink containers in here. Harmful bacteria grows above 40 degrees. Originally I was going to use this to store breast milk during my middle of the night pumps but it isn’t safe. It is quiet though so that’s a plus!
5.0 out of 5 stars great little fridge
I ordered this/ for my bedroom and it is great.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Fridge for the Office or Shop
You won’t believe how convenient this little cooler is for your work area. A couple of decades ago I had a similar product in my office. It was great for keeping a couple of cans of soft drink, or my lunch right at my desk. Unfortunately that particular design required an external power supply that was bulky and electrically under-sized. It over heated and failed within a few weeks. At the time I looked for a replacement, but could not find one.So you can imagine how delighted I was to see this product a few weeks ago from AstroAI. It’s larger in capacity than that old one, has it’s own integrated power supply. Not only as a plug-in to your wall outlet, but it can also be used in your car, with the included cigarette lighter-style plug.It should understood, that this type of cooler uses ‘thermal electric’ (TE) technology instead of a liquid refrigerant as in the refrigerators that we are most acquainted with. With ‘thermal electric’ the system is all electronic, with no liquid refrigerant or associated mechanisms. Simply put, it is a fairly new technology known as the ‘Peltier Effect’ which in it’s most elementary explanation, subtracts heat from one side of the element and transfers it to the other side, leaving one side cooler and the other side warmer. So when applied to a container, like this mini-frig, heat from the inside is extracted to the outside, thus cooling the interior. Likewise, with the electrical current reversed, you can heat the interior. The drawback is that the cooling effect is a set difference as defined by the components. For example, with this application, the ‘cooling’ will lower the temperature only 32 to 40 degrees below the temperature of the outside of the device. So if the ambient (surrounding) area is 75 degrees, the interior cooling will be no lower than 43 degrees at best. Good enough to chill your beverage or snack, but still a bit warm to keep your food safe over many hours. Lower the ambient temperature to 70 degrees or less and the interior would drop to a rather food safe temperature of 38 degrees. (Typically a normal refrigerator maintains an interior temperature between 40 and 37 degrees.)Understanding how this works is key to safe and enjoyable usage. Keeping good ventilation around the mini-fridge is essential to keeping the interior cool. Likewise, the area should be no higher than 75 degrees ambient temperature. So with that understanding, how does this ‘Mini Fridge’ perform?Actually quite well. It’s interior is roomy enough to hold six 12 oz beverage cans; less if you want to also keep your lunch or snack refrigerated. Plug this into your vehicle and even without the A/C being on, your can of soda will still be comfortably chilled; and if you have your A/C on, your drink will be definitely cold. The interior has a removable shelf, so you don’t have to squash your food on top of each other, and the interior of the door is fitted with a small removable basket at the bottom. Similarly, near the front of the interior bottom is a small recess that holds the included drip tray to catch any condensation. The door has a latch and both interior and exterior are nicely finished and easy to wipe clean. Both A/C and D/C (Automobile) plugs are removable and separate, allowing for easy portability. The power receptacles, cool or heat switches and indicators are located on the lower edge of the back. And, the circulation fan is whisper quiet!I haven’t tried the warm-mode yet. Page 12 of the instructions indicates that the maximum temperature that can be achieved is 150-degrees (F). Enough to take the chill off I suppose, but no hot lunches.Overall a pretty nice product, relatively small and convenient.
3.0 out of 5 stars Lukewarm Review of a Cool Product
I really wanted to like this, and I do to a degree. It's stylish, sleek, and generally works as advertised. However I had two major problems with it. First, it arrived with a separate handle, which was a royal pain to install, and now doesn't latch well. I contacted the seller but had no resolution or even reply on the issue. I ended up getting a cupboard door child safety strap to keep it closed, so that's doing all right now. Just not as sleek as I was hoping for. Second, it's really not that great of a cooler. As you may read in the description and in some of the other reviews, it's not a typical refrigerator, and "the cooler the outside temperature, the cooler the inside will be." Well, yeah, that's kind of obvious, isn't it? Anyway, don't expect especially cold drinks from this thing. (We won't talk about food safety issues that could arise from improperly chilled foods.) Anyway, it's a good concept, just not a great fridge. The rundown ...Quality -- Mostly good here, apart from the handle issue. Looks good, and seems well made. 4/5Utility -- A fridge that doesn't really cool food? Um, okay ... 3/5Parity -- Hard to judge because of the flaws, but if it worked better, the price would be about perfect. 4/5
5.0 out of 5 stars Mini-Fridge is Mini, But It Works Well with 2 Different Power Sources
This is a review of AstroAI's "AstroAI Mini Fridge 2.0 Gen, 6 Liter/8 Cans Makeup Skincare Fridge 110V AC/ 12V DC Portable Thermoelectric Cooler and Warmer Little Tiny Fridge for Bedroom, Cosmetics, Christmas (Purple)".The "mini fridge" can run in cooling or warming mode. The interior compartment is 10" high x 5 3/8" wide x 5 1/4" deep; that's 282 cubic inches of interior space. There is a removable plastic shelf that can be positioned at 2 different heights (or completely removed). It can separate the top and bottom with a 7" high bottom x 2.75" high top or 4 7/8" top and bottom sections. Note that a fairly standard-sized 1 gallon milk container is a too big to fit inside it even with the shelve removed. It comes with 2 different ways to power it. One way uses a 120 volt AC electric cord that plugs directly into the back of the mini-refrigerator. The other is a power cord that draws power by plugging into a 12 volt cigarette lighter on one end and it supplies the power into the back of the mini-refrigerator on the other end.In testing, the 120 volt AC electric cord that plugs directly into the back of the mini-refrigerator worked fine to get the refrigerator cool.I tested the supplied 12 volt cigarette lighter power cord in 2 different setups - both with nothing inside the mini fridge except a thermometer. In the first setup, I directly connected the power cord's 12 volt cigarette lighter receptacle to a 120 volt AC-to-12 volt DC adapter that presents a 12 volt DC cigarette lighter receptacle. The mini-refrigerator ran fine connected to the cigarette lighter receptacle of the 120 volt AC-to-12 volt DC adapter. In the second setup, I directly connected the power cord's 12 volt cigarette lighter plug to a 12 volt cigarette lighter receptacle connected to a 12 volt car battery. The 12 volt battery I used started a little low on power - with just 11.7 volts, but it worked. After 15 minutes, the battery went from 11.70 to 11.55 volts - dropping the source battery power level by .15 volts. After another 15 minutes, the battery went from 11.55 to 11.53 volts - dropping the source battery power level by .02 volts in that 15 minute interval.I'm guessing the difference in the decrease in power between the first 15-minute interval (-0.15 volts) and the second 15-minute interval (-0.02 volts) is that in the first 15 minute interval, the mini-refrigerator had to do more cooling since it started out at a 68 degree room temperature and in the second 15 minute interval, the refrigerator was just working to maintain the cool temperature. After another 15 minutes, the battery went from 11.53 to 11.52 volts - dropping the source battery power level by just 0.01 volts. And, after another 15 minutes, the battery went from 11.52 to 11.51 volts - dropping the source battery power level by another 0.01 volts. I disconnected the power cord from the battery and measured the battery voltage. My 12 volt battery then read 11.64 volts...... So, according to this measurement, the first hour of using it only used .06 volts. With a room temperature and mini fridge temperature of 68 degrees Fahrenheit, after an hour of runtime, the temperature inside the mini-refrigerator was 38 degrees Fahrenheit. So, it was cooling the 68 degree ambient temperature down by 30 degrees to 38 degrees. This was a little less cooling than specified in the product listing. The product listing stated it cools up to 32-40 degrees F (18-22 degrees Centigrade) below ambient temperature. Please note it's possible that the under-performing cooling I measured may have been due to using a 12 volt battery that actually started out with just 11.70 volts and/or that the refrigerator would get a little cooler after running it longer than 1 hour. After 1 hour on my 12 volt battery, I switched back to an AC-powered 12 volt cigarette lighter receptacle. Within 20 minutes, the temperature went down another 2 degrees to 36 degrees which meets the specifications in the product listing.I'm satisfied with the cooling temperature and the energy usage to provide the cooling. I expect I'll be able to use it as a cool food down to mid-30 degree temperatures for more than 12 hours on a fully charged 12 volt battery when it's sitting in an area with an ambient 70 degree temperature. That said - I think it's important to consider practical usage - things like the density and temperature of any item(s) placed in the mini-refrigerator (and the number of times the door is opened). Warmer item(s) and more dense the materials, will consume more energy to get them cooled down. It's best to start with cold items going into the fridge.FYI: I have no interest in using this "mini fridge" to warm items up, so I didn't test it.The real crux of the issue in using a min-fridge like this is in determining what situations merit using a small cooler like this at all. I can see that it would be useful for cooling dairy products - especially cheese and meat. But, fresh vegetables (that aren't cut up and condensed) take up a lot of space, so I wouldn't consider that a good use for me. It may be useful for storing medicines that need to be kept cool. As noted earlier, the mini-fridge can be powered in a car from a cigarette lighter receptacle and it can be powered by a regular 120 volt AC plug wall outlet. So, if your traveling, it can be moved from your vehicle to a room and then back to your vehicle again which could be very helpful.
