5.0 out of 5 stars Moist, but still keeps the grains, tastes good.
This is really interesting salt. I've never had moist salt before. It works exactly the same if mixing into baked goods, no clumping, dissolves well. For sprinkling, I've learned to take a pinch and rub it between my fingers to break apart the grains a bit. Workings amazingly for corn on the cob if the cob is at all damp; no need for oil. The taste is subtly more complex than plain salt, but don't worry about it tasting like the ocean smells!I'm having a lot of fun playing with this. Would be a great thing for aspiring chefs to experiment with.
5.0 out of 5 stars Salt, Tastes Like Salt, Use Like Salt!
I wasn't sure how this salt differs from the other salt I have used, but I am plenty happy all the same with the quality of the salt! The salt comes in a small resealable pouch that features a transparent window for easy viewing of the remaining salt. The salt itself is distinctly moist, evocative of the sea that it comes from, but does not taste fishy or off at all. It has a pleasantly salty flavor that is slightly more nuanced than the regular salt that you might be used to, as well as incredibly satisfying crunch that definitely lends itself well as a finisher for many dishes. It's not too pricy and the quality is palpable. I'd recommend it if you'd like to try something new!
4.0 out of 5 stars slightly moist, yet still crunchy and good
I’ve tried several brands of Celtic grey salt, and this is the first time I’ve encountered moist salt. It is ever so slightly moist. It clumps and sticks to the sides of the bag. I squeezed some in my hand and it stuck together in a lump. It also left a bit of a moist residue on my hand. The product listing does state that the salt retains the ocean’s moisture, but I have never had moist salt before. There were no made by or best by dates on the bag at all. That being said, it tastes fine and has a lovely crunch. I was able to put the entire bag into my ceramic salt dish. It makes a lovely finishing salt. It adds a bright pop of flavor and a great crunch to any meal.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good salt, lower sodium
This Celtic Light Grey Salt is oddly moist in its bag, but it is supposedly supposed to be, as it says it retains the moisture from the sea. The color is a light grey and I use this in both baking and cooking. This salt is lower sodium than table salt and you can actually taste the difference. This also has 82 trace minerals.
5.0 out of 5 stars Lower sodium salt!
While it's definitely not necessary, I appreciate this Celtic Light Grey Coarse Salt as a fun fancy ingredient. My household tries to be mindful of our sodium intake, so I appreciate that this Celtic Salt has less sodium than regular table salt. I used this like I would kosher salt - to season while cooking or baking. It salted well and wasn't noticeably different in flavor from standard kosher salt. It's salt! Yay!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great little cooking luxury
This course grey celtic salt is great! It is a nice size for finishing off dishes and adding a little pizzaz to a dish. It is definitely a much higher quality than typical salts I use for cooking, which while not always necessary is a good little luxury to elevate your dishes.
5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Salt
I've been wanting to try grey salt for a while after hearing about its health benefits with extra minerals, etc. I struggle with pots, which requires me to keep my sodium and electrolytes up and sometimes I need extra salt to keep my symptoms at bay. This salt is perfect due to the extra minerals; it helps with electrolyte balance and keeps me feeling steady.I've tried it on its own and have even added a pinch to my water when I need it. The flavor is rich and you can tell it's high quality. It is a very coarse texture and also somehow more moist than other salts I've tried, which is curious to me. The grains almost sort of stick together the way brown sugar does if that makes sense.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good grey sea salt
I have purchased grey sea salt before and the first time was a bit surprised that it's a little damp in the package, so you won't want to put this in a grinder - it is definitely a finishing salt. I liked that the zipper was sealed before the package was sealed. Everything was easy to open and re-close. I used a sprinkle on my focaccia and it gave a nice crunch to the bread.
