When I saw this I had to have it, probably because of the occasional videos online that I have watched. When a lifelong friend was over recently he saw that I had this starter setup for magnet fishing and he said he had seen several videos online too, thinking it would be a great adventure. Well, I missed his birthday last week so we’re going magnet fishing near his house and out for a fish & chips lunch too. Life is too short to miss an opportunity with an old friend!There is a whole world of information online. Web searches: 1) magnetfishingisfun - 2) Magnet Fishing Laws & Regulations in (your state, city, etc.) - 3) what is a palomar knot? There are also so many videos too!Before we go magnet fishing I’m going to make a very lightweight floating rope winder/stow using a 3” foam sandwich core, with thin plywood on two sides, and through bolted with a handle on one side and an eye screw on the other. Yeah, I’m assuming that one of us will drop it in the water. A bucket seems like a good place for wet stuff so I’m adding that as well as heavy duty garbage bags to my kit.SUMMARY: I’m really looking forward to this! The net provided with the kit might also be put to great use by being a means to lower a beverage into cold water should that ever be an occasion at hand. I've been wanting to get into magnet fishing for some time but I've seen too many poor strength magnets out there. I saw this and figured I'll try it.So this is a really strong magnet. The 1000 pound rating I can't confirm, but these ratings all are under ideal conditions. Clean, flat, thick steel wider than the diameter of the magnet and pull perpendicular to the steel plate. Under these conditions it may get 1000 pounds. Don't however expect that with dirty, rusty, non flat and smaller sized items.Many of the magnets depend heavily on twisting the flux of the magnet so it presents North South poles to the plate. This one does that, but the magnet itself is big and strong without that. So you'll get far more holding power than with the ones that require that the object covers the N/S boundary as much as possible.Rope looks like good quality. This is a great starter kit. I'm heading out for four days in a few weeks and this will get a great try out.

The DTLHCNCT 1000 LB Magnet Fishing Kit comes with everything you need to get started with magnet fishing. I was interested and though I could tow around a magnet while on my kayak just to see what I found. Haven't found anything interesting yet, but it's still fun to do. The strength of this magnet is very strong and you do need to be careful with it. I recommend keeping it in a box with lots of foam inside when storing or transporting it. It can easily get attracted to something like your car and dent/scratch it. The price is fair for the overall kit and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in trying magnet fishing out!

Wow this weight has A LOT of force, very sturdy and I’m looking forward to using this more in the lake I travel too. Also works great on the back of the mower while you’re driving. Lost a few pieces off my mower recently and have been usuing it to find other items in my yard such as screws and nails. Has saved my tires! This is a fun activity for traveling or just want to see what’s in your yard. The magnet is very strong! Decently priced for how much I’ve already used it!

We live in a river town, and one of our teens is suddenly super interested in exploring the local rivers. I thought this would be a cool hobby for him to try out. I'm pleased with the kit so far. It arrives ready to go, even the rope is already fastened to a carabiner, and the metal loop is secured to the magnet, so you just clip it on and go. It comes with a storage bag and other accessories too, including some lock-tite for the metal loop, which is nice but since it's already secured I don't know why it's needed. Maybe it will work its way loose over time? The rope is super long, plenty long enough to use while wading, kayaking or tossing from a riverbank. The magnet is perfect for a starter magnet because it's strong, but not so strong that you can't get it off of something it's sticking to, which can happen with some of the super strong magnets. So far, we have picked up nails, screws, sunglasses, nothing too interesting - but he's hooked already. One thing to remember is not to tie this rope to any part of your body or kayak, you don't want to get entangled in it. Just basic water safety precautions, stay in shallow water and you should be ok. So far, it's a lot of fun.

My family has wanted a magnet fishing kit for so long now. This kit comes with absolutely everything you need. The magnet is strong but also relatively easy to remove whatever it's sticking to. We've only had this out a few times so far but absolutely love it!
