5.0 out of 5 stars Phenyx Pro has knocked it out of the park with their PTAU-2 Wireless Microphone System.
The Phenyx Pro PTAU-2 Wireless Microphone System is an impressive addition to the world of wireless microphones, showcasing elegance from its packaging to its array of features. Having used a Shure microphone system for the past ten years—a brand known as the industry standard—I was eager to see how the PTAU-2 would compare.Performance and FeaturesTo my surprise, the Phenyx Pro PTAU-2 performed exceptionally well, rivaling the Shure system at a fraction of the cost. One standout feature is the Spectrum Analyzer, which helps identify the best frequency ranges for any venue, ensuring optimal sound quality. This tool is also useful for finding clear frequencies for other microphones that may be in use.The updated receiver screen provides a wealth of information that previous models lacked. It displays transmitter levels, battery status, RF levels, and audio input levels, making it easy to monitor your setup during performances.Another great aspect is the adjustable transmitter power settings—2mW, 5mW, 10mW, and 30mW. This flexibility allows users to optimize gain based on their specific needs, whether for distance or battery conservation. On the highest setting, the system boasts an impressive range of up to 400 feet, an improvement over the previous model's 328 feet.Interference PreventionThe ID Lock feature is particularly impressive, allowing you to lock a frequency to a specific transmitter. This effectively eliminates interference from other microphones operating on the same channel. If another mic tries to use that frequency, the PTAU-2 blocks out any audio from it, ensuring your event goes smoothly without interruptions.Design and AestheticsThe new microphone transmitters are sleek and feature black grills that give them a luxurious feel. If a microphone could be described as "sexy," this would be it! They are comparable in look and feel to high-end Sennheiser microphones. Additionally, each transmitter includes an updated display showing mic gain, battery level, transmitter level, mute status, and group/channel frequency.ConclusionOverall, Phenyx Pro has knocked it out of the park with their PTAU-2 Wireless Microphone System. It delivers everything you'd expect from a top-notch microphone system while offering extra features that enhance performance—all without breaking the bank. I would highly recommend the PTAU-2 to anyone in search of a reliable wireless microphone system. It definitely deserves an A+ rating!
5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!! Great wireless Microphone at a Great Price!!
I'm setting up another mobile sound system for live events. I needed a dependable wireless microphone for live events. I have purchased other Phenyx Pro products in the past so I thought I would give this one a try. I love the built in spectrum analyzer and the Auto scan feature. Super easy to setup. The mics are very well built and sound very good. The range is very impressive. I will be using these for indoor and outdoor events with confidence in the quality of sound and no dropouts.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Dual Handheld, even with a Frequency Scanner!!
One of the coolest mics I have had my hands on. My main issues in the club environment is so many RF frequencies running around. With the built in scanner, and spectrum analyzer, it is easier to set these mics up! And it has a UHF lock to make sure only the mics that are connected, are the only ones in the channel, so it doesn’t pick up any others!
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing addition
We have just added the Ptau-2 and wow is all we can say.Love the spectral analysis and the ID lock option. We haven’t had any issues with any frequencies bleed with any of our other phenyx pro items. We even did a service through the mix out just to cover all of our bases. Nothing but good things to say. Very rugged and durable nothing cheap about this new model
4.0 out of 5 stars Hard to beat for this price point
I was looking for a set of wireless mics to use for speeches at corporate and wedding events. But I didn't want to break the bank doing it. However, I've tried a few other cheaper models and had nothing but issues (static, interference, or just simply not working). The PTAU-2 came to the rescue! The packaging was pretty much in line with what I've seen with the more expensive Shure and Sennheiser wireless systems I have. Everything was surrounded by cut foam and wrapped in plastic. The only thing I expected to see but didn't was any desiccate packs to help absorb moisture. You usually find the gel packs or indicator strips to let you know if moisture built up during shipping but there were none. I was also a bit dismayed that there were no bags for storing the microphones. A problem easily remedied by a $10 purchase on Bolo. Still, it would be nice to have something to protect them.I put the PTAU-2 receiver in a rack with another Phenyx Pro product: the PTM-33 4 channel in ear monitor system. That system works in the 902-928MHz range so it wasn't going to interfere with the PTAU-2 in the 512-562 MHz range. I noticed that the rack ears are built in to the face plate so they can't be removed. The receiver also comes with rubber feet installed on the bottom which had to be removed to rack mount it below the PTM33. I guess I could also have removed the PTM33 and the feet could have stayed on the PTAU-2. A minor inconvenience. The microphones themselves feel quite sturdy, having a metal shell but not super heavy because the internals are more plastic (probably ABS so not brittle). I installed the included AA batteries and fired up the system. The displays on the mics and the receiver are very intuitive and clear. The spectrum scan function made it pretty easy to find areas of RF noise but the scan function did a good job of finding channels that were clear. Another feature I liked is the mute on the mics. The button is a bit recessed so you really have to intentionally press the button to mute it. I had another system that also had mute but it was far too easy to mute it accidentally. Especially in the hands of the father of the bride or someone else who isn't microphone savvy. I did notice that if you put your hand at the very bottom of the mic where the antenna is, the signal drops significantly. This happens with most wireless mics, even the Shure system I have so you to give a little instruction to the user to hold it in the middle. Proximity is thing with dynamic mics and these are no exception. You do have to get within a few inches to have decent audio signal strength. Again, very similar to the Shure 58 system I use.I've used this at 4 events now and had zero issues. I even used it for guest vocals on a song and it actually sounded really clean. At one event, which was outdoors, the person using it was a good 100 ft away around a corner at one point and I still had good signal with minimal dropout. The ID lock helped with interference at one event caused by another wireless system on stage in the same frequency range. To be honest, I would recommend this system over some more expensive systems if the goal is to have secondary mics for guest speakers or singers. I'd need more testing in different environments to trust it as a primary vocal system. But after the reliability I've seen so far, I'd definitely trust it IF I also had hardwire back up SM58's on standby. Now, if they make a version of the PTM33 that is as reliable as the PTAU-2 seems to be, we'd really be looking at a company with a solid foothold in the lower end pro marketplace. You aren't going to be using it in arenas but smaller shows, corporate events and weddings are the perfect spot for this mid range system.
1.0 out of 5 stars ONE MIC DOESNT WORK. VERY POOR RANGE NOT AS ADVERTISED
Only one mic worked upon arrival. 2nd mic doesn't turn on even with charged batteries. Also range is very very short. like 100ft. anything beyond that and it sounds fuzzy with some drop outs. The PTU-2U model works better and is less expensive. Too bad i cant return it and customer service wont respond to me about warranty service. I would pass on this one if you're looking for something reliable.
