5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing easy to use phone gimbal stabilizer
It's an impressive, beginner friendly gimbal for cell phones. Gimbals have been used for cameras for long time. Most of the pro consumer gimbals are a bit expensive and meant for digital 35mm cameras. So, $500 - $1000 gimbal for $500 - $2500 camera, and then you can have some stabilized pan, tilt, rotate, zoom movement added to your content. This light weight cell phone gimbal uses a cell phone app to communicate with the gimbal and give you professional capabilities without all the complications.Setup is easy. Typically, you spend time balancing your camera on the gimbal in all 3 axis - pan, tilt, rotate. This is setup for most cell phone (iPhone, Android) and you simply slide your phone into the spring loaded holder. You just center your phone, and it's motors are strong enough to handle any off balance. So no complicated balancing process. The gimbal has a few buttons to control all the key functions - zoom, joystick for pan, tilt, and simple flip from portrait to landscape modes.Gimbal modes include 1) first person view (pan, tilt, roll - all active), 2) All Follow (pan tilt follow, roll is locked), 3) Half Follow (tilt and roll are locked), and Lock Full (pan, tilt and roll all locked). The Power button has multiple functions (power on/off, single click to swap between front and rear cameras, and double click to switch between photo and video modes). The gimbal can be held upright in portrait or landscape modes, or used facing down with camera on the bottom in underslung mode (e.g. dog cam mode), or side grip mode. All providing creative camera angles.I let my friend, who is a professional TV production camera operator, use this camera gimbal and he was impressed with the features. The integration of the phone app and the gimbal remove some of the technical complications so you can focus on shooting your story with the addition of motion and better stabilized angles. Don't give up your hand held and tripod footage, but rather add more professional views and motion to your videos.Comes with a rechargeable battery, tripod attachment to bottom of the handle and the top gimbal part has an extension. It's a basic kit, but a great start to more impressive content at an affordable price point using a cell phone camera.
4.0 out of 5 stars A Budget-Friendly Option for Smoother Videos
As a beginner videographer, I was looking for an affordable way to improve the quality of my smartphone footage. The COMITOK L9 Gimbal Stabilizer has been a great addition to my setup. The 3-axis stabilization does a fantastic job of reducing shake, making my videos look much more professional. I've found it particularly useful for capturing smooth panning shots of scenic locations. The ability to easily switch between portrait and landscape modes is a convenient feature that allows me to adapt to different shooting scenarios. While the accompanying app could use some improvements, especially in terms of its buggy and user-unfriendly interface, the gimbal itself is easy to use and offers various modes to customize your shots. AI tracking and gesture controls, which require the app, are useful features but the execution needs some work. If this is a requirement, you may want to find a gimbal that does not require an app to pull off these advanced features.Overall, if you're looking for a budget-friendly way to elevate your smartphone videography, the COMITOK L9 Gimbal Stabilizer is a solid choice. It provides effective stabilization, a variety of features, and is easy to use for beginners.
5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, I love this thing even with a couple of quirks
What I love...1. The motor doesn't make any noise.2. Super smooth camera motion3. Going from landscape to portrait with a click of a button.4. The tripod and the ability to extend the height.5. The joystick thumb controls left/right and up/down motions of the phone.6. The battery lasts a good while, and it's removable. You can find inexpensive batteries like this to have extra along with you.7. Face and object tracking with the included app.8. the trigger to start and stop video or to take photoThings I like...1. The app has a lot of functionality.2. The trigger also works with the iPhone camera app.3. Zoom wheel, albeit digital zoom only4. All the different mode settings for how the gimbal responds, although I pretty much gravitate to only one setting, but it's nice to have all four.5. Folds up nicely to make it an easy thing to put in a backpack or something (even with the tripod attached).6. USB-C fast chargingWhat I don't like...1. For some reason, the gimbal will occasionally lose its connection and the record trigger will stop working, or, in some cases, the gimbal will just go limp. In either case, I just restart the gimbal, and it goes back to normal. It seems that it will do this if I'm idle for a little while. Not sure if it's the phone disconnecting from the gimbal or vice versa.2. If you want to use face or object tracking, make sure it's the last option you chose before recording; otherwise, that mode shuts off. Not a big deal; I just have to remember that's how it works.3. The zoom wheel is only digital zoom, and you can't use all three cameras on your iPhone 15 Pro Max with the gimbal app.4. The Zoom wheel does not work with the iPhone camera app.5. No image stabilizer in the gimbal app. So if you're going to be walking and filming, I would use the iPhone camera app instead, but you won't get face tracking if you do.6. Even though I selected English as my preferred language, I was getting a pop-up that was all in Chinese. I had to take a screen shot to have the text translated, and it turns out that it just wanted permission to record video to my phone. After that, I had no issue.7. There are a lot of things you can do with the Gimbal app, which I like, and at the same time, I think there are several things that could take the app from good to great. If the app were honed to be as great as the gimble, this thing would be a home run.
