5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate grinding with no mess
Since 2017, I have bought ten coffee grinders ranging widely in price. The first nine either spewed coffee, left piles stuck on the edges of the carafe, got stuck on oily beans, or left randomly sized grounds. This one grinds the beans to order neatly and accurately, while handling whatever beans I put in it. The steel carafe empties leaving very little stuck to its sides and nothing sprayed around the counter. Hurrah, Shardor!
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect grind size for espresso!
Perfect grind size for espresso, better than the grinder at my local Sam's Club. As for longevity, only time will tell.
4.0 out of 5 stars Quiet and simple operation
This is a very effective grinder. Now that's out of the way. :)Here's the number one issue: The automatic cup settings are way off. Setting for 12 cups ground at least twice as much coffee and more. After some experimentation, I've had to set the machine at 4 cups to grind the proper amount for a 12-cup pot.The rubber compression cap is a smart feature since without it there would be grounds falling after removing the grind cup. Use it. I didn't the first two times and cleaning up the stray coffee grounds wasn't fun.A big surprise is how quiet the machine is. I've owned several grinders over the years and nearly all have been louder, and a couple of them very much so. The wife appreciates the lack of loud grating noises from this one while she's lying in bed waiting for the coffee to brew.
5.0 out of 5 stars Endless grind options - easy to adjust - perfect grind. No static cling.
I have gone through several grinders in my life some good, most bad. So far, this grinder has been spot on. You simply turn the hopper to select the grind you want. There are 51 settings for grind options from expresso (finest setting) - all the way up to French press (most course setting). There are a bunch of accessories that come with this grinder that are a little confusing, and the instructions don't give you a lot of details. The 'accessories' are used if you want to grind directly into the cup that goes into an expresso machine. I don't use this - I simply grind directly into the supplied stainless-steel container.I was pleased with find that there wasn't any static generated when I ground the coffee beans. This was a real hassle with my last grinder. My last grinder had a plastic cup that the grounds went into. This one has a stainless-steel cup - and the grounds go through a hole in the middle of the lid - and nothing sticks to the side.If you read the sticker on the top of the grinder (There is a picture above) - it will tell you to tap a few times when the grind is about done to prevent any coffee grounds from falling out after you remove the container holding the ground coffee. This works really well - and I recommend you do this. The first time I ground coffee I did not do this, and after I removed the container holding the grounds, several more grounds fell out causing a bit of a mess. The next time I ground coffee and did as they suggested by tapping a few times on the top lid there was no mess. The top of the bean container has a rubber boot that acts as a bellow. So, when the grinding is done, or almost done - by pushing on the lid a couple times (tapping) - it causes air to be forced down thru the grinder to expel any left-over grounds. This works great. So far, I have been very pleased - I just hope it holds up and lasts a good long time!
5.0 out of 5 stars Has really upscaled my coffee game. Impressive.
The media could not be loaded. I fell in love with espresso and the art of making the perfect cup of coffee this year, and have even changed over to an drip top brew as well as a French press, each have their own tastes and uses depending on the bean used every now and then. This takes all the guess effort out of the process and creates a precise numbering system to dial in perfectly. It's a solid addition to the Espresso bar. I usually bought pre-ground for coffee and espresso separately but this just changed my world of coffee upside down. The grinder has 51 levels of sizes, thats about 5 per each type of coffee and yes you can see the difference. Its micro fine tuned. The setting I used was for machine brew type standard coffee machine, and also espresso setting both noticeably different not only from each other but again within the 5 notches of each type. Even has 2 plastic holders so you can dose the grind directly into your portafilter with the included magnetic plastic guards, it keeps that top ring from getting grounds on it and in your machine. Classy. The grinder's display actually changes the menu icon with a hidden button in the plastic reciever to automatically change from coffee to espresso when adapter (you have 2) installed and it changes over to time release than just how many cups of coffee you need to grind. This way will grind strait to the portafilter. Thoughtful designed by Espresso drinkers, you can clearly see. I am still perfecting the perfect amount for espresso so I just scoop it like regular from the little cup with silicone lid that holds plenty and stainless body to make it easy to transfer. it fits barely and not much espresso if any escapes the grind. It smells amazing in the room and it's not too loud. Less audible than a small hand grinder that pulverizes it into a powder. Not this, it's seriously a fined tuned instrument.Even has this rubbery ring on the top to tap down the air and release some of the last grind before removing, and lifts the lid a bit. The only downside, is it is missing some sort of stirring mechanism arm inside the hopper, so you have to manually take the lid off and spin the beans till they catch. I am chalking this as part of it, as it needs to build up a little groundage inside to allow snagging and I did use really oily medium roast beans, so I'm not mad at all just a little shake or swirl with the tail end of the brush that's included in the kit or a butter knife to get the beans down to get started. Not an issue for me, and it's just breaking in.A tad pricey, but you can see the quality is there, and if you are a coffee aficionado, then it's a must have type of item. I would try other products by this company, they seem to know what they are doing and love espresso! Here are some photos of grounds (only 5 degrees appart on the dial) and a video of the sound and tap silicone ring and how it works as well as product size and all included to help you see if it's right for you.Super glad I ordered it.
