This review is for the "ProtoArc Ergonomic Wireless Keyboard Mouse, EKM01 Plus Full Size Ergo Bluetooth Keyboard Mouse Combo, Split Design, Wrist Rest, Multi-Device, Rechargeable, for Windows/Mac OS - Dark Green" that I ordered via the Vine program.I've been using Microsoft Sculpt keyboard and mouse combos both at home and work for several years. They get a TON of use and for one reason or another they have begun to wear out and need replacing. I only use ergonomic split-keyboards and ergonomic and this set is very similar to the Logitech K860 keyboard and MX Master 3S mouse set that I use at my work from home desk so I was hoping it would be a good replacement. The keyboard and mouse come nicely packaged with full, well-written, and easy to understand documentation. Included with the keyboard and mouse are a very cheap and short USB A to C cable for charging and the wireless dongle for use when Bluetooth connectivity isn't available. The dongle stores in either the keyboard or the mouse and is held in magnetically. In this case it was shipped in the bottom of the keyboard. Also, no charger was included, only the cable.I made sure to fully charge the set before use. Both devices have a multi-color LED that shows the battery and charging status: red blinking for battery low, red solid while charging, and green when fully charged. Both devices charged up quickly and seemed to take advantage of the fast charging available on my USB charger.I tested the set with multiple machines (desktop PC, work Dell laptop, Mac Mini) and had no issues pairing them to any of the machines via the dongle or Bluetooth. This set works just like the Logitech set, so I didn't need the instructions, but the documentation does have very clear information on pairing if help is needed. Both the mouse and keyboard worked as expected with all machines.I'm happy to say that I've found my replacement daily driver set! I really like that these are rechargeable rather than battery operated since I don't have to carry batteries and keep them on hand at work. I also like that both the keyboard and mouse have on/off buttons, so I don't have to remove the batteries when transporting them to avoid drain. The keyboard has feet at the rear as well as the front so it can be angled however is most comfortable. The mouse has plenty of buttons that can be assigned to many common functions including changing the DPI. This allows for fine detail work or speedy screen navigation at the touch of a button.I did have a few nitpicks with the set.First, the battery status LED on the keyboard is extremely dim, especially when it is red. I had to hold my hand over it to shade it in a dimly lit room to even see that it was on. Luckily, the green shade was a bit brighter and more easily noticed without having to be shaded by my hand.Second, the mouse wheel does not have the fairly common ability to do left and right scrolling. I use this often and find myself accidentally clicking the wheel button downward when trying to lean the wheel left and right to scroll.Third, the magnetic attachment for the dongle on the keyboard is a bit weaker than I would like. This allows the dongle to be easily dislodged when transporting the set. Thankfully, the dongle storage is inside the mouse under what would normally be a battery cover. This provides much more secure storage for it and I recommend this be used over the keyboard storage for this reason.I definitely recommend this keyboard and mouse set as the above nitpicks are very minor and don't really impact the functionality on a day-to-day basis. The build quality is fantastic, and the ergonomics are great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, and multiple ways to use and connect

    t. · October 29, 2024

This ProtoArc Ergonomic Wireless Keyboard Mouse combo is pretty awesome overall. But, in full disclosure, I don't use the mouse. I ordered an ergonomic keyboard for a reason, and they say the mouse is ergonomic as well, but every other ergonomic mouse or trackball I've seen and used is tilted so as to align better with the natural movement of your arm and hand. This mouse isn't tilted like that, so in my opinion, it's therefore not an ergonomic mouse. Some may fault me for this reasoning, and that's fine, but reviews are for MY thoughts, feelings, and possible concerns using the product in question. If you disagree, order it and post your own review. With all that being said, the keyboard has been phenomenal from the first time I turned it on. It arrived with a good bit of charge and I was not only able to connect it to my computer, I used it for about an hour before deciding to stop and charge it. I do like to mention battery levels on products that include rechargeable batteries as it is a part of the product. If the item arrives with enough power to turn it on and maybe do a thing or two before it dies/needs recharging, that's a problem for me. I like to fully play and evaluate things when I get them. I know, I'm like a child in that respect, but I believe it's part of the initial "out of box" experience. It connected via Bluetooth the first try. In fact, I was still pushing the button to force pairing mode when my computer was already asking if I wanted to pair. Whoops! LOL. But, that only goes to show how easy pairing was. This is the first keyboard that I've had like this, where the keys don't really depress, if you know what I mean. It's almost like typing on my phone, with very little downward travel to the keys. The keyboard is rich with shortcuts and I'm still learning them, but it's been a fairly quick process as they're mostly laid out pretty intuitively. There are a few that are issues to me, at least in this learning phase. The ''screenshot" button and the "settings" button are very close to the "backspace" button and I've hit one or the other repeatedly in error. And hitting the button again doesn't cancel the action, so I have to stop, use the mouse to cancel, and then go back. I know, my fault, but still annoying and I feel maybe they could've been placed a little differently??Speaking of special function keys, again, I do like the layout and most of them are well placed. I DO like the media controls in the center of the keyboard. Most of the other keyboards that I've used have not had them there. As a test, I paired with my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and it paired easily and typing in the text apps was never easier. I'm kind of older, so this whole "typing with my thumbs" doesn't really work that well for me. It's one of the many reasons I wanted to go with a foldable phone, in the hope that I would be able to text/type easier, but nope. Unfortunately carrying this thing around to use with my phone isn't really practical, but it was a fun experiment.I also tried with the included USB/WiFi dongle, and it paired equally as easy. But, why use up another USB port when I don't have to, so I switched back to Bluetooth.I've been using it for a few days now and it hasn't required a recharge yet. The booklet states that the red indicator will start to flash when the battery is low. I'm not sure I like that, for two reasons. First, it's a really small light, and it's not that bright. Next, I have a keyboard tray, and most of the keyboard is under the desk, even while typing, so I can easily see me not seeing this light flashing even during normal usage. A pop up window/message would be nice, but I guess I'll just have to randomly charge it every now and then and hope that it's enough.Speaking of the booklet, it was very thorough and very concise. Every question I've had so far I've found an answer for in the booklet. Love the little chart showing those shortcut keys and what the symbols mean. Again, I just wish I could've been able to pop them up on the screen when I needed them, but maybe in the next update/version?So, overall, I VERY solid keyboard. It does take some getting used to, but I'm getting there. I think it's more user error than keyboard issue though for anything I'm having issues with. Like those darn "screenshot" and "settings" buttons. LOL. I'm sure once my fingers are trained/retrained a bit better those issues will fall by the wayside. So, I guess as always it comes down to two basic questions. First, would I order it again? I would definitely order this keyboard again. Honestly I could do without the mouse as I feel it's not an ergonomic mouse, but I'm sure to have someone who'll need one sometime. Second, would I recommend this keyboard to others? Yes, I absolutely would recommend this to others, and that would be a "highly" recommend. The combination of features, layout, multiple ways to connect, and can connect to entirely different devices is phenomenal to say the least. Without a doubt a definite 5 star product.A+++++

Works great via USB dongle; mouse is comfortable and really light

Keyboard1) a) The keyboard comes with a USB dongle which is in it's storage area on the underside of the keyboard. It can connect to 3 devices (1st is the dongle and 2nd & 3rd are via bluetooth).1) b) If you are going to use the USB dongle then plug it into a USB 2.0 port. I found out that USB 3.0 ports emit a wireless signal at 2.4 Ghz (this is the frequency that all wireless devices use) that may interfere with your wireless headsets, keyboards, and mice. So, every minute or two you might see your keyboard stop responding or that your voice will cut out on your headset. This is not a problem with the keyboard but with USB 3.0 ports.2) The keyboard works great. I used it while connected to the USB dongle on my desktop. Pressing a key is very responsive. If you ever need to go into your computer bios then you have to use the USB dongle.3) The keyboard is not backlit.4) a) I find it weird that the secondary functions for F7 to F12 are not prev, play, next, mute, vol-, and vol+. I don't know if there is a standard but this is what I'm used to with the Logitech keyboards that I use.4) b) F11 is mute but prev, play, next, vol- and vol+ have their own separate buttons in between the left and right sections.4) c) Pressing Fn + Esc will lock the function keys to their secondary commands. So, pressing F11 will mute your sound as opposed to having to press Fn + F11. I'm not sure if the Fn lock feature works while connected via bluetooth.5) There is a button beside F12 that has an icon of a camera and a Prt Scn button. Both do the same thing (takes a snapshot of your desktop). This doesn't make sense. Why would there be 2 buttons that do the same thing. Why not change the camera icon button to the Lock Fn button so that I don't have to press Fn + Esc?6) This keyboard can be charged using a USB-C charger (using a USB-C to USB-C cable). A USB-A to USB-C cable is included.7) Comfortable to type on. I didn't have any issues getting used to typing on this keyboard.Mouse8) The mouse can connect to 3 devices (1st is the dongle and 2nd & 3rd are via bluetooth).9) There is a compartment on the bottom of the mouse that will house the USB dongle. The cover is held on magnetically.10) The mouse is very comfortable. It's large enough to fit in my hands without any issues. It is similar in size to the Logitech MX Master line of mice.11) There are only 3 different DPI settings. They are 800, 1300, and 2000. You can change the DPI by pressing the button just below the mouse wheel.12) There is no software to allow you to change any of the mouse buttons. For example, with Logitech mice, you install the Logitech software and you can change any of the mouse buttons to double click or some other functionality (such as, open calculator). You can also set the DPI to whatever you want and not just 800, 1300, or 2000.13) You can charge this mouse using a USB-C charger (using a USB-C to USB-C cable). A USB-A to USB-C cable is included.14) This mouse is really light. Personally, I prefer a little more weight on my mice but this is a personal preference.I can definitely recommend this keyboard and mouse combo.

Amazing quality, from unboxing to build quality, to useability. Awesome!

I got an ergonomic ProtoArc mouse (the vertical one) and it is absolutely awesome! So when I saw this combo available, I just had to try it as I want something good for a desktop setup for my business MacBook Pro. I got these today and man, am I impressed with this company! From an absolutely gorgeous box to the build quality of the mouse and keyboard, these peripherals are TOP NOTCH. The materials used are excellent like all the rest of this experience, from the leather palm rest to the ease of connecting wireless and Bluetooth to my devices. Bluetooth to the MacPro was simple and no issues (with the option of connecting it to another PC/Mac with a 2nd Bluetooth receiver!). The keyboard body has no flex or bend to it and is solid, I have to guess that it is plastic. Although it is pretty hefty, it doesn't feel like aluminum or other metal, but it doesn't need to be. When I push on the plastic body where there aren't keys, there is no flex so it is very sturdy. Typing is a breeze, with key travel being perfect for me. I don't have to press too deep, nor is the kickback annoying or too much. The keys are slightly indented with a concave circle and my fingers rest nicely on them and find the keys while typing with no issues. The keyboard has both front and back tilt legs, so you can have it inclined away from you (the way I prefer, less strain on the wrists and feels more natural to me) or inclined with the space bar side down. The USB receiver is on the bottom of the keyboard and is magnetized for convenience. The mouse is just as nice, with a soft feel smooth plastic body, responsive and nice click buttons, a metal scroll wheel that is textured and buttons for DPI switching (how fast the mouse moves on screen) and forward and back buttons. It is the perfect size for my hand, as I rest my hand on the mouse I don't need to adjust fingers or my thumb to reach anything, it just fits great in my palm. So yeah, another 'knock it out of the park' product from ProtoArc! This mouse keyboard combo is fantastic, easily matching and outdoing any Logitech or Microsoft products in the same category. And if someone you know has requested a keyboard/mouse combo for a present, and they are specifically looking for an ergonomic split keyboard, you can be rest assured they will love this one, from the unboxing to using the product! I wrote this review using the keyboard, and it really does feel great. I will continue to use if with my MacPro and will update my review if anything goes sideways (since I have only used this for today, about 3 hours worth) but I have a feeling this keyboard/mouse combo will serve me well! ProtoArc does offer a 2 year warranty as well! There is no software to download and install with these, so no assigning buttons or DPI settings - they are all preset. But most people won't care about that and just want a good quality keyboard and mouse that work out of the box, which these do.

It's a very nice ergo split keyboard combo, but it's not for everyone

Reasons To Buy+ Can reduce pain if a normal keyboard is causing you problems. Tip: if you can, go to a computer/electronics store to see if you can try an ergo split keyboard in person to see if you like it. It'll save you a bit of time in terms of knowing whether you should even consider a keyboard like this.+ The keyboard can be elevated from the front or back. If you only elevate one side, it will tilt.+ Keyboard has an integrated wrist rest.+ Both the keyboard and mouse support Bluetooth. The mouse supports multiple devices. Pairing is simple and easy.+ The keyboard has a wireless dongle on the bottom of the unit.+ As with most ProtoArc devices, the industrial design is very nice. The colorway is very nice too.+ Build quality is very good.+ The keyboard is not loud like a mechanical keyboard.+ Not much to say about the mouse, but it's very typical of most other ergo wireless mice. It feels good in hand, and it's perfectly fine for everyday use.Nitpicks / Hit or Miss* Keyboard has chiclet style keys. My only other experience with an ergonomic keyboard with a split design was a Microsoft model with dome keys, and I absolutely hated it. It was a huge struggle to use it. I was surprised that I was able to adapt to chiclet keys in this orientation more quickly.* If you're more accustomed to normal keyboards, this could require a lot of adjustment. You're going to have to break the muscle memory you've built up. When I switch from normal to other normal keyboards, I can usually get up to 90-100+wpm speeds and very high accuracy on MonkeyType within my first 10 tests. With this ergonomic keyboard, my max speeds dropped down the the low 80s with abysmal accuracy, because my fingers weren't accustomed to some of the key positions. I especially got burned on the letter B.* The keyboard's elevation flaps are a fixed height* The wrist rest is integrated into the keyboard. You can't remove it.* The media controls are in the split of the keyboard, which I thought was an interesting place to put it, but it didn't cause any problems for me in regular use.* The function keys default to the alternate macro keys. I never use the macros (e.g., multimedia keys) so I had to enable the Fn lock to have them default to the F1-F12 keys.* The mouse wheel doesn't click. Also, unlike some Logitech mice that don't have a clicky wheel, it doesn't have a mode where the wheel can spin freely.Reasons Not To Buy- You don't like chiclet keys. This purely a taste thing. I generally don't care about key type, whether it be mechanical, chiclet or dome style.- This is a biased perspective, but I don't like this keyboard for coding. I'm fine using this for general use, such as writing documents and emails... but for coding, I find it hard given my keyboard habits. Your perspective and mileage will definitely vary from mine. My work PC is still going to have a normal keyboard for coding.- I don't play any mouse-centric games, so it's fine for me, but if you're a gamer, you may not think highly of the mouse.- It's a full sized keyboard with a numpad. If you're into <100% keyboards, this isn't for you.- The keyboard is not portable.- You're left handed. The mouse is optimized for right handed use.

ProtoArc EKM01 Ergonomic Wireless Keyboard Mouse Combo - great but missing calculator button

    K. · November 9, 2024

I already have one ProtoArc keyboard (model EK01 Plus) in my office and I loved it so much that I took this one for use in my wife's office.Unlike my model which came with only a keyboard (no mouse), this model looks almost identical but there are a few differences. First thing I noticed is that there is no backlight. Too bad, that is very handy. However, as this is a combo, this one has a mouse and it is high quality (unlike some other combos that I saw, where mouse is usually cheap).Let’s start with a few basics:Keyboard is amazing. Keys are very well made and pleasant for typing.Ergonomy is important and this keyboard offers you to type under angle so this will help if you have any issues with wrists (like I do). Getting used to an ergonomic keyboard might take some time of trial and error.Keyboard is rechargeable which is appreciated as no hussle with batteries. They added a bunch of buttons and some don't make too much sense. For example, there is a button to open settings but no calculator button. Setting is used very rarely but calc is really needed often. That’s weird and in my mind the biggest negative with this keyboard.Mouse if fantastic, also high quality and clicks are surprisingly silent. Wheel is also very well made but doesn’t have “continues” mode, so you will feel those haptic clicks when you scroll. This is by no means anything negative, I like it this way but if you use a Logitech mouse, then you know if you press a wheel (like a button) that you can switch this behavior. As for pairing with multiple devices, this combo allows 3 devices, one via WiFi dongle and 2 with bluetooth. Keep in mind that when you press the BT1 button on the keyboard this will not automatically switch the mouse as well but you’ll need to press the BT button on the mouse to switch it independently. Having said that, it’s clear that you’ll need to pair both mouse and keyboard separately to desired BT devices. I think this is a bigger problem to solve as each BT gets its own MAC address. But anyways, no big deal. Conclusion: Fantastic high quality keyboard with minor shortcomings however it is ergonomic, very pleasant for typing and you can’t go wrong. Price is a bit on the high side but given it is a pairable with 3 devices and full combo, it does justify value for money.Final verdict: 4 stars (one star off only because missing calculator button and no backlight)

Excellent, low profile keyboard combo with a few tradeoffs

    M.M.W. · November 7, 2024

I've been using a Microsoft Natural Keyboard for over a decade... and the first thing to say is that adapting to the ProtoArc keyboard is only about figuring out the few "extra" keys... and a few that are missing compared to what Microsoft includes. It is easy to make the switch otherwise. I'd also argue that making the change from a standard "straight" keyboard isn't that hard for those who touch type because the change is really just in your arms and wrists and not your hands; if you hunt and peck, it's a slightly more challenging switch because you have to adapt to greater distance between left and right hands and that means more searching. The ProtoArc keyboard is clearly flatter than what I'm used to, but that didn't take much getting used to in terms of standard key positioning - the alphabetical and numeric keys, back space, carriage return, etc. One thing key that I did find I messed up - and still mess up - is the F5 key; on the ProtoArc keyboard I find I keep hitting F6 instead because where Microsoft divides the keys into ESC, then F1 through F5, and F6 through F12 and Function Lock; ProtoArc has ESC, then F1 through F6, and F7 through F12, then "Home" and "Settings" buttons... so the F5 is about a half key width farther left. I do use the F5 ("Refresh") key frequently.Unless I missed it, there is no "Calculator" shortcut key, which I like on the Microsoft product. Volume up and down are central on the ProtoArc keyboard - different from Microsoft.I DO like that there's a Settings button that shortcuts to OS settings... which is neat, though I don't imagine most people use that frequently after initial setup. And I do like the backlight option which is turned on/off via a "light bulb" button toward the lower right of the main key area.Tradeoffs that I DON'T like are the apparently lack of indicator lights for Scroll Lock, Fn Lock, and Num Lock! Only the Caps Lock button has an indicator light, where the Microsoft Natural Keyboard has all four lights located centrally.I find it strange that the USB-C charging port (USB-A to -C charging cord included) is ONLY for charging - I don't understand why it can't also be used to communicate with the host PC! As a result, you do have to use the included wireless (Bluetooth) USB-A dongle. However, responsiveness is excellent. The mouse is very good too. There's nothing that makes it stand out, imho, other than the ergonomic shape which is comfortable. It's uncluttered and does all the basics well.Overall, recommended... and very good value compared to what has become a very expensive competing product from Microsoft.
