5.0 out of 5 stars Heavily Perfumed; Thick White & Creamy; Solid Pump Dispenser; Thickens & Softens; Made Where?
What am I reviewing?Dove’s Men+Care Thick & Strong Fortifying 2-in-1 Shampoo + Conditioner [for Thin Hair]How was this receivedAs is. Not packaged. Not even shrink-wrapped; nor sealed. I prefer bottles that are packaged; or at least sealed, in some fashion. That gives me the confidence the integrity of the product cannot be questioned. Not having either suggests consumer confidence and quality control is not a priority for this big-name brand.Tell us about the bottles. It’s plastic. It’s massive. It’s heavy-duty. It contains 31 Fl Oz.; and weighs (2¼) pounds. It has a classic design. It’s sturdy, durable, but not that easy to grip, especially when wet, but can easily dispense the product.Measurements and suchThe bottle stands about (9½”) tall, (4”) wide; and (2½”) thick.Quantity? It’s massive, over 3x as much as a recent competitor. The formulaDoes this have clean ingredients? Which decrease the possibility of an allergic reaction. I think the reader must do their own research. [There is a warning not to get any of this in the eyes though, so I used this with a certain level of caution in mind.]IngredientsWater (Eau), Sodium C12-13 Pareth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Glycol Distearate, Carbomer, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide MEA, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, PPG-9, Caffeine, CalciumGlycerophosphate, Coumarin, Limonene, LinaloolViscosityIt’s thick, like honey, and rich in aroma.Country of origin?Unknown, there is no reference to where this is made, there is a reference surrounding that it’s distributed by Unilever, out of Connecticut.Ingredient origins?Unknown.ValueThe price, at under at under ($11), for a massive quantity, is on the big-time bargain side.Lather - shampooLather started off small but finished big, I did use a complete pump, which was larger than a marble.ResultsMy results were excellent; whether real or imagined, my hair felt plump, rather than weighed down and flat. [I do blow dry.] I thought my hair had at least the same amount of shine and a tad softer, but not fly-away.An exotic aromaThe aroma is complicated, on the heavily perfumed side, almost exotic. Multi-layer. However, there is no accounting for taste, nor smell, however, the shampoo, for me, had a bit of muskiness, a complicated aroma of patchouli and sandalwood scents. Both drifted away very quickly, which was a bit of a negative for me. I have had other high-end products that allowed their scents to stay a bit longer, allowing for a signature aroma, which I prefer.Drying? My scalp did not feel dry or tight, whatsoever, after use.ViscosityThick. It’s no gel, but it’s not watery.Everyone is differentNow everyone’s hair and skin types have their own requirements, however, for this writer, this shampoo and conditioner seems to be capable.Criticism?Yes, I do not care that the shampoo contains SLES.Contains what?SLES, I do not care for it. There are two (2) ingredients I prefer to not have in the family soaps (of any sort, whether body, hair, dishwashing, whatever). First, let’s look at sodium “lauryl” sulfate (SLS) a chemical that's commonly used in soaps, shampoos, and shower gels as a surfactant – think foaming agent for creating lots of suds; and second, let’s look at sodium “laureth” sulfate (SLES) sometimes referred to as Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate, which is said to be a slightly less harsh version of SLS, sodium “laureth” sulfate is in this shampoo and conditioner. These chemicals are typically made from petroleum. However, such ingredients can be plant based.Right to make informed decisionsOkay. But does it still have SLES? Yes, this does. Read the label (the listing did post the ingredient, it was disclosed, and it did allow consumers, like me, to have choices and be informed. Even if this is plant derived SLS/SLES does that make that any better? The reader needs to decide. However, of note is the recent trend of “green sheen.” Does plant based make a difference?Set me free from SLESMany people demand a wash that is free from SLS/SLES, whether petroleum based or otherwise (plant-based). This is not free from SLES. Further, I have no idea of the manufacturing process in producing SLES, were the ingredients of concern stripped away? There is lack of information. Again, the reader needs to make an informed decision.Thoughts?Based on the totality, it’s a weak five (5) stars for me. I will not deduct for the SLES, as it was disclosed in the listing and I did not have to select this; so, I am not going to deduct for it, as I knew what I was getting prior to selecting, I did want to note its contents though.I hope my thoughts added information.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great product
First off, I am using this as a body wash on top of it being a shampoo & conditioner and I feel like it works well. Most days I am in an office setting so I don't need much at night. After working in the yard, yeah, I'd use a dedicated body wash, but for simple daily use, this fits the bill.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good shampoo; horrible pump
This shampoo has a nice scent, lathers well, and leaves my hair feeling clean and fluffy. I'm happy with it. The pump, however, was a different story. I could NOT get the pump head to unscrew and work properly. I ended up having to remove the entire mechanism, rinse and dry it, hold the tube that goes into the bottle with one pair of pliers, clamp the pump head with another pair of pliers, and wrench the two of them in opposite directions. That finally got the pump head to pop into the correct position. Dove, it shouldn't be this hard!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Large bottle and good product!
I am a big fan of Dove products so I got this for my husband. He doesn't really like adding conditioner so I thought this would be good since it will condition. I was worried he still wouldn't like it but he said it didn't make his hair feel gross like he complains about with our regular conditioner but it was easier to brush, most likely because of the added conditioner. (His hair is long and curly.) I'm very happy with it and glad he likes it because it is a very large bottle.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, smells awesome
This shampoo and conditioner in comes in a bottle with a pump, so it is easy to use. As with most shampoo conditioner combos, it could be a little stronger on the conditioning side but that’s just how these are. It saves time though so that is great. My son loves the one step hair washing process and I like that he washes his hair willingly with this. The smell is excellent, vaguely masculine but not over the top. I’m not usually a fan of patchouli but I love this scent.
5.0 out of 5 stars DOVE MEN + CARE 2-in-1 Shampoo + Conditioner Thick + Strong, Smells and Feels Good!
Tried different 2 in 1s, even the seperate and expensive type but THIS SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER has been the best I've ever put on my hair, the scent is very clean and fresh, It leaves my hair feeling soft and clean. I love it! It’s a great deal even for daily use. The size is convenient—I simply attach it to the side of my bathtub, and it works wonderfully. Buying in bulk means I won’t have to worry about reordering for a while, and I really appreciate the reasonable price. I think you’ll enjoy this product and find yourself using it frequently. I recommend.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good results, a healthy-feeling clean. Thick lather, mild masculine scent.
I’m happy with Dove. This shampoo gives a good healthy-feeling clean with a dense and thick lather - Dove Men+Care Shampoo+Conditioner. The rinse is an easy one which surprised me with the thickness. The scent is mild, leans masculine. It’s a shampoo/conditioner combo that leaves my hair with a rewardingly strong, smooth and soft finish. As a detangler, it’s just okay. Worth mentioning is the pump, it’s a dependable delivery. In fact when my Dove bottles are empty I keep the pumps to use in other bottles they’re that good.
